    2018 NBA Offseason Discussion Thread

Now that the 2017-18 NBA season is officially over, after witnessing the Golden State Warriors win their third championship in four seasons against the Cleveland Cavaliers in a 4-0 sweep, the NBA offseason has begun!

There's many questions surrounding on where LeBron goes? Could he go to the Warriors, Rockets, Lakers, or maybe at home where the heart is, the Cavs. NBA free agency begins on July 1st, which free agents will find their new home, or stay with the team.

Until then, let's get the offseason discussions going.

Dwane Casey has agreed to a five-year deal to become the next coach of the Detroit Pistons, league sources told ESPN.

The Pistons stayed aggressive in pursuit of Casey, and closed on a deal Monday morning to land the franchise's primary coaching target. Owner Tom Gores and senior adviser Ed Stefanski sold Casey with an aggressive contractual commitment and a case that together, they could make the Pistons a perennial playoff team in the Eastern Conference.

Detroit is working to reshape its franchise, hiring Stefanski and Casey to replace former president and coach Stan Van Gundy as the centralized leadership of the organization. The Pistons are committed to building the roster around All-Star forward Blake Griffin, whom they acquired in a February trade from the LA Clippers.

Casey, 61, the presumptive NBA coach of the year, led the Toronto Raptors to a franchise-record 59-win season, the No. 1 seed in the East and a berth in the conference semifinals.

But after a second consecutive series sweep to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Casey was fired by the Raptors. In seven seasons, Casey reached the playoffs five times -- including the franchise's first conference finals -- and won 50-plus regular-season games in each of his final three seasons.

    ESPN
He had a raw deal when he was fired by the Raptors after appearing in the NBA playoffs for five consecutive seasons. I guess the owner had enough of losing against the Cavs that he had to pull the trigger by firing him. But anyways, it's good to see him get a new fresh start with the Pistons.

I'm pretty confident he's going to leave the Cavs this year. I think he realizes he won't win another championship there.

The 76ers I think would be a really cool landing spot for him. A young squad with a lot of potential without LeBron, with him I think they're deadly.

The Lakers are one of my favorite teams though so I'm hoping he goes there.

HoHo would probably die a happy man if LeBron went to Philadelphia lol. Honestly, I'd rather see the 76ers continue on without him and let the team develop with the talent they got on the roster.

The Lakers would be a good destination, but thanks to LaVar Ball's constant annoyance, LeBron would have a headache dealing with him and would like to punch him in the mouth.

The Rockets don't necessarily need LeBron, as we don't want to see him be a part of another "super team."

LeBron usually geta what he wants wherever he is at, so if Lavar Ball is the big issue I think the Lakers would shut that shit down.

The Spurs are another possibility but I could foresee LeBron and Pop clashing. That's such a good system but it's a tight run ship and that's one place where LeBron might not get full control at.

But then again the Raptors are going to have a likely rookie coach who could probably be easily manipulated

Yeah Lebron coming to Phila would be amazing and at the same time I worry with the deal he would have, it would mean I imagine multiple players leaving the team to make room. What I'm interested in as well, the Sixers have two First round picks and I believe 3 or 4 in the Second Round which they can put together to make a splash trade if they need to. I'm happy as fuck Colangelo is gone as GM after the bs and chaos he caused, and this Offseason is going to be very important to the success of the Sixers for a good amount of time.

Re: 2018 NBA Offseason Discussion Thread

I don't think OMB gets it. LeBron can make teams better in his presence, despite his ego. If he had never joined the Miami Heat in 2010 and Bosh was the only one that joined Wade, I would doubt the Heat won either championship. The Cavs in those four years without LeBron struggled significantly. Here's the stats:

    2010-11 - 19-63
    2011-12 - 21-45
    2012-13 - 24-58
    2013-14 - 33-49

Since he returned, four NBA Finals appearances, giving the city of Cleveland their first title in 52 years in the 2015-16 season.

I want to see LeBron join a sub par team that does have stars, but not many. Make it unpredictable for everyone to guess. The Pelicans, the Spurs, maybe the Bucks, maybe the Jazz or Knicks for a change. I just don't think the idea of him going to a team where there's two big stars and create another super-team that appears in the Finals every year. That's why nobody gave a damn for the NBA Finals for the past two seasons.

I'd shave my head to get LeBron on the Bucks but we don't have the money or the market he's looking for. Only hope would be if he loves Giannis SO much that he'd take less than a max contract to come ball with him and I don't see it.

That said LeBron + Giannis + Middleton is the eastern conference Champs easy and it's a wonderful daydream I have sometimes.

I was simply making suggestions on where LeBron should go and where he shouldn't go, fearing that some big name start would follow him like the Heat. If the team has the money to bring LeBron to their team, they should take the advantage right now, whether its favorable to any fan or the sport or not. He's still in his prime, it's his decision on where he goes. Speaking of The Decision, for fuck sakes we don't want to go through that shit again.

Yeah you can one or two good players to try to get Lebron, but what happens when Lebron is the on the bench is your bench squad good enough to role holding down a lead? Even when the Cavs had Love and Irving with Lebron their bench still got kicked, so I think your fire power in the Starting 5 is just as important as your Bench Squad to me to have Lebron come there. Now I think wherever he goes, people will come flying to join in the fun. Brent Brown who is GM for now, hopefully they get a good backup Center so when Embiid is not the floor he is not a waste of space to be our there. They might of gotten that if they didn't trade away Okafor who in his first two Seasons had more than 12 points a game.

Re: 2018 NBA Offseason Discussion Thread

I think San Antonio has a legit shot at LeBron. He's always admired Pop, and he's always admired the Spurs organization. After everything he's been through in Cleveland the last two years, that type of stability must be attractive.

I don't know how the finances work out and whether they could keep LaMarcus Aldridge, but if so, hot damn.

Add on: I also think Miami has a shot. Riley would make it work financially to bring LeBron in, just like he did in 2010. Wade is still there. Spo is a better coach than he was even in 2014. They have pieces there that would be better than anything LeBron had in Cleveland this season. Dion Waiters at his best is better than the best version of J.R. Smith and Josh Richardson is a legit stud. If they can find someone to take Whiteside's contract along with a gambit of picks, and move Dragic somewhere, they can make it work. Bam-LeBron-Wade-Waiters-Richardson is a solid six.
