    Hereditary (2018)

    Release date: June 8, 2018
    Studio: A24
    Director: Ari Aster
MPAA Rating: R (for horror violence, disturbing images, language, drug use and brief graphic nudity)
    Screenwriter: Ari Aster
Starring: Toni Collette, Alex Wolff, Milly Shapiro, Ann Dowd, Gabriel Byrne
    Genre: Horror

Plot Summary: When Ellen, the matriarch of the Graham family, passes away, her daughter’s family begins to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry. The more they discover, the more they find themselves trying to outrun the sinister fate they seem to have inherited. Making his feature debut, writer-director Ari Aster unleashes a nightmare vision of a domestic breakdown that exhibits the craft and precision of a nascent auteur, transforming a familial tragedy into something ominous and deeply disquieting, and pushing the horror movie into chilling new terrain with its shattering portrait of heritage gone to hell.

Only read one review of this, but that made it sound brilliantly horrifying.

This definitely looks like something I'll give a glance at, at least once.

    Not really a spoiler but...

    Spoiler:

...the little girl is by far not the creepiest thing in this.

It’s extremely effective in making sure you cannot turn away from the screen despite the sheer horrific nature of the events unfolding. I can also say that there’s a good chance I’ll never watch this again, it was that disturbing and I’m genuinely concerned about having nightmares tonight.

    This is very true but...

    Spoiler:

That one shot of her head on the side of the road with the ants crawling all over it sure is close. It seemed impossibly long too, like you just wanted the camera to cut away and it wouldn’t.

Anyhow in case you can’t tell, I thought this was brilliant in every facet and I cannot believe it’s a first feature. The performances from everyone (Collette could seriously garner some Oscar buzz) are superb, the cinematography is second to none, the soundtrack is downright unsettling and the whole thing is just absolutely terrifying. It’s almost not even a horror movie but a grand tragedy hidden within the confines of what one would call a genre film.

Best movie I’ve seen this year yet, as stated above, one I’m pretty sure I may never watch again.

Currently enjoying a plate of Pulpo Gallego via Tapastalk.

My buddy a huge horror fan loved this. I'm excited to watch it once I can get it somewhere.
