Professional Sports Teams Winning A League Championship In Their First Year.

With The Cinderella Vegas Golden Knights Advancing To The Stanley Cup Finals In Their First Year As An Expansion Team.
I was wondering if an expansion team at any level, in any league, in any sports has ever Won A League Championship In Their First Year.

The Toronto Rock Lacrosse Team Won The NLL Championship in their first year that they were in the NLL, but were not an expansion team

Can anyone sight any examples ?

After a little research the best I could come up with is

1967-1968 Expansion St. Louis Blues Made It To The Stanley Cup Finals

1994 Expansion Baltimore Stallions Made It To The Grey Cup (CFL)

1998 Expansion Chicago Fire Won The MLS CUP (Soccer)

I did some research as well TCON.

The 1946 Cleveland Browns won their championship in their inaugural season in the AAFC, before they joined the NFL. Even in their first season in the NFL in 1950, they won the NFL Championship. They won three more NFL Championships, last one in 1964, before they become irrelevant for many years.

I wouldn’t compare the Blues making the Finals in 68 to anything since they were in a division of all expansion teams and it would have been a new team making the finals no matter what.

    Good Point

I wonder who came up with that plan
You have 6 established NHL teams that have been around for decades and you add 6 expansion teams in the same year and put all the expansion teams in one division ensuring that an expansion team will play in the Finals.

I’m really hoping they pull it off. Right now this does feel like a possible once in a life time thing. I’d take a Vegas win over Ovi finally hoisting up the cup.

I did it on NBA 2k17 with the Pittsburgh Force. It was a very impressive season led by a resurged Ryan Rondo.

Edit: LOL I said Ryan Rondo. Oh my goodness. Rajon Rondo I meant.

I really can’t wait for Bettman to jerk off right there on the ice if Vegas wins
