Didn’t he also say that muslin women that wear the burka look like letterboxes?

I mean it’s easy to see why he has the reputation of being a racist when he’s publicly making comments like that.

this is the quote everyone has latched on to, but it's convenient to ignore that this was in an article defending people's right to wear religious clothing. and the niqab is oppressive and silly-looking.

It doesn't say a lot for Johnson that when he tried to do something commendable (defending people's right to wear religious clothing in his article) he botched it with a very poor choice of words to the point where it's now brought up as a reason to say he's racist. I'm no fan of the niqab, but there's a difference between saying that professionally/delicately and saying it like it's part of Roy Chubby Brown's act trying to provoke people or make right wingers laugh. A politician should of known better, and this is a guy that's going to represent the UK to different countries and cultures going forward.

Some women choose to wear the niqab though. Either way its religious clothing and he did a terrible job defending peoples rights by making fun of it.

    You mean this one?

    https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/695158...-boxes-uk-ban/

saying if a woman turned up at his class looking like a bank robber hed ask her to remove it is pretty telling.

its xenophobic any way you slice it.

I get that hes trying to say he feels they are oppressive garments. Telling women what to wear is(even if its a husband telling his wife not to wear a mini skirt to work) oppressive. But there's no way to tell if an Islamic women is wearing it out of choice or being made to.

i will say this.. he kind of looks like Trump lol
