Major howler by Lloris but still think France are over the line now. You just don’t do that in the final. If Croatia come back from this, it would be a huge bottle job by France.

I think the biggest WC final win is 5-2 by Brazil against Sweden in 1958. Hope France beat or at least tie this record.

You can take the man out of Tottenham, but you can't take the Tottenham out of the man.

They fucked up hard in 2002

They headbutted themselves out in 2006

    They imploded in 2010

They just got edged out in 2016

They weren't going to fuck up tonight

Re: World Cup 2018 Discussion Thread

The final was a 90 minute snapshot of the last month. Set-Piece goals, own goals, VAR, penalties, France being in winning positions without really playing well, big dramatic moments, incredible entertainment.

France deserve the win overall. They came through the tougher side of the bracket and won each tie fairly convincingly. That 2nd half they blew Croatia away to make the VAR decision not that big of a deal now.

This was the final this tournament deserved. Greatest World Cup of my lifetime for sure. What a month.

Glad France went on to win it fairly comfortable making the VAR decision pretty redundant in the end. Zero doubt as to who the better team in that match was now.

Big congrats France. Deserved winners in the end. What a great World Cup.

Re: World Cup 2018 Discussion Thread

Really enjoyed the final. France are the world champions for the second time. They deserve it, best team of the tournament. They went through that tough side of the bracket to go all the way. Highest scoring final for over 50 years.

I think this is one of the youngest squads to win a WC. Mbappe won best young player. He’s the only teenager to score in the final since Pele. Mbappe’s already a superstar and future Ballon D’or winner. Great achievement for Deschamps, captained France to WC glory in 1998 and now he wins the cup as a manager.

Unlucky Croatia, they had a brilliant tournament. Such a fantastic achievement for them to make it to the final and finish as runners up. Modric wins player of the tournament. The self proclaimed best defender in the world, Lovren lost the CL final and WC final in the space of two months. Kane won the golden boot, Courtois won the golden glove. What a brilliant tournament. Every game there was a goal except France vs Denmark.

The next WC is in Qatar, will be played between November 21 till 18 December. Madness, this is going to affect all the domestic leagues. Now does this mean France are getting knocked out in the group stage in 4 years time? Hope not. My 3rd fave WC after 1998 and 2006.

Re: World Cup 2018 Discussion Thread

So, 20 years ago in 1998 when France spanked Brazil everyone thought that was the beginning of France ruling football for the next few decades. but for whatever reason that never happened. But I got to be honest; with the money that's in clubs like PSG and the way it seems liked they didn't even hit top speed in the world cup. Baring something drastic, I think they're a lock for the euro's and the next world cup.

In fact, I'll go a step further; I think this world cup represents a massive shift in the international landscape. Italy couldn't even qualify, Germany looked a shadow of their former selves, Spain was clueless. And we're a long LONG way away from seeing a world cup winner from South America based on how the Argies and Brazil performed

Meanwhile, we have teams like Croatia, England, Denmark, Belgium And the Swiss stepping up. -Teams that you would typically refer to as "Sleepers" or "Darkhorses" - The Landscape might be changing.

I think this world cup showed that the playing field is a lot closer than ever. It truly felt like every team could beat every other team on a given day.

I don't think we'll see any sustained dominance by any team going forward.
