Sports Gambling To Become Legal In The US

The supreme court on Monday struck down a federal law that bars gambling on football, basketball, baseball and other sports in most states, giving states the go-ahead to legalize betting on sports.

The supreme court ruled 6-3 to strike down the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act. The 1992 law barred state-authorized sports gambling with some exceptions. It made Nevada the only state where a person could wager on the results of a single game.

One research firm estimated before the ruling that if the supreme court were to strike down the law, 32 states would probably offer sports betting within five years.

    The Guardian
That's huge news for gamblers nationwide to see the ban finally being lifted. On the other hand, for the state of Alabama, it's pretty pathetic that the state has no lottery or a casino which every state around us has one of the other. I personally love to gamble, but not big money but I hope this state gives gambling a go because of its politics and so-called Christian values imo are the reasons why Bama is in the shadows and it does suck.

I literally had no idea you couldn't bet legally on sports anywhere outside of Nevada.

Some interesting laws in your country Good call supreme court.

Thank goodness. It was so annoying not being able to check/bet with Bet365 when I was in NYC a couple of months ago.

A real science involved with successful ATS wagering. Very time consuming. Joe Public simply won't take the time needed.

That's what the people running the gambling are counting on.

Sports gambling must be one of my favourite hobbies. Welcome to the dark side, America!

Also find it crazy that this wasn't allowed outside of Nevada. Had no idea. Considered you guys were the front runners like most sports stuff.

    You got it.

The thing is searching out "spots" where one team has a huge % of advantages from an ATS perspective.

While there is far more it than this.

Team A is 32-4 at home getting points after a bye
Team B is 4-32 on the road laying points.

    Team A enjoying a strong 64-8 trend.

But, it took time to find that.

Joe Public knows nothing about trends.

America is still rooted in weird ethical/moral things related to religion and gambling is considered a "vice" in the bible. So a lot of people didn't get on board with it.

Also, a lot of sports leagues lobbied against legal sports gambling for their own personal interests and because #PeteRose happened.

I agree but I imagine most regular folks will just stick to money line or potentially over/under bets. There isn't as much research involved in those nor do they seem as daunting. Personally, I tend to do most of my betting ATS but I'll pop in a money line parlay from time to time if 2-3 teams look like a sure thing.

I'm your basic 110 to win 100, I have my man who takes my action. Yep, the old know a guy who knows a guy thing, a middleman.

I try to isolate the best play for that week, which obviously means the thing is elimination. Whittle it down until only one game is left standing. The key is money management. 110, 220, 550 etc.

There is no need to play more than that best play, it's more about....how much $$$$$$ ya play.

I look for time tested trends. Which we find in division games, here we have a history.

I will hit 60-65% over a season, but knowing when to load up on a play is huge. This is where experience comes in.

Louisiana does not allow sports gambling other than horse racing. Thus, the nearest place I can legally bet on any sport I care about is roughly 70 miles away in Mississippi. That being the case, I'm not placing a (legal) bet unless I'm pretty sure of it; it has to be worth a 70 mile drive.
