Seattle has 10K seat deposits in 12 minutes for NHL team

They started accepting seat deposits for an expansion NHL franchise in Seattle today. The goal was to get 10,000 seat deposits to show they could support a NHL team.

They reached that goal in 12 minutes. Five hours into taking deposits, they had over 26,000 seat deposits.

I think it's safe to say Seattle will be the 32nd NHL team.

Compare that to Vegas, where it took a month or so to reach 10K deposits.

Now, where will the Coyotes be playing in a couple of seasons??? Quebec? Portland? Still in the Phoenix area?

Guess the sales were even faster than I heard on the news:

Oh NHL is getting 32 teams? Come on MLB and NBA, time to get with the program.

I like the NFL's set up best. 32 teams, two 16 team conferences conferences, four 4 team divisions in each conference. Each division winner makes the playoffs, with two wild cards. I wish MLB and NBA did the same.

Seattle should totally have a hockey team btw. They should get an NBA team back too, and so should Pittsburgh dammit!

I can't wait finally my team doesn't have to fly to every away game.

: I have a good friend that lives near Seattle. He says I should come visit sometime but that is like the exact opposite side of the country from me.

: And those cost lots of money

: Not the town I live in, the town I work in.

: You should bring TGR with you

: If I was taking a long walk off a short pier I would gladly bring TGR with me.

Be cool if Portland could add an NHL team in the near future then you'd have that Vancouver, Seattle, Portland natural rivalry.

    Oh! GO STAMPS!

I think the Sonics will be reborn one day. Did Pitt have an NBA team at one time? Pitt is still a solid sports city.

Yesterday's showing in terms of deposits showed that Seattle is more than ready for the NHL.

I don't mind them adding teams, but some of these cities should lose their team if they can't get decent attendance.

We had the Pittsburgh Condors who played in the ABA back in the 60s. They were terrible and didn't get much of a market buzz in the city.

People reference them here in Pittsburgh a lot to prove a NBA team wouldn't draw successfully here. But I disagree. I think it's a different time, and we very much could have a big fan base for a Pittsburgh basketball team.
