    PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS Discussion Thread

You have either heard of this game, seen someone playing this game, or have played this game yourself. But on the outside chance that you're one of the very few people who have not yet heard of "PUBG," PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS is a game for PC and Xbox One where you board a plane with 96-99 other people, then parachute out with nothing but the clothes on your back. From there you land, you loot, and you do your best to survive a fight to the death across a very large map. Play alone or form teams of 2, 3, and 4 to test your mettle in the hardcore military sim that's got everybody talking.

Are you playing this game? Watching this game? Hating this game? Please share your thoughts about PUBG, your innermost desires for future changes to the game, your favorite guns or locations, fails or highlight clips - whatever. I have ~315 hours in the game and can't imagine stopping any time soon. The guns, the grit, the toxic lobbies - I love everything (except holographic sights, those can fuck off.)

Any man with a pan has a fighting chance.

    meh

It's better than I ever gave it credit for from watching people play it. But I vastly prefer Fortnite after giving that a try. I like the openness of PubG but the gunplay feels super slow compared to Fortnite and not nearly as smooth. I haven't touched PubG since I started playing Fortnite although I still intend on playing PubG. Pub feels like I'm only going to play it when I have peeps online that want to play whereas I can see myself solo queuing in Fortnite.

I enjoy it. Don't understand how overhyped it is. It's fun and a bit innovative and it's pretty intense at times. Type of game to where if your friends were watching you, you could hear a pin drop.

    Re: PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS Discussion Thread

i have a fair few hours on this game too, most of which was as a part of a premade 3. as someone who is generally not good at FPS games, what i dont like about this game is that you could presumably spend a lot of time looting and gearing up, then die in an instant without seeing any enemies then thats it, game over. ITS TOO CLOSE TO REAL LIFE I PLAY GAMES FOR ESCAPE DAMNIT

i really enjoy playing the full version solo though because, as mentioned, i am crap at FPS and aiming, but with a little trollish cleverness + hypothesizing where the final circle will close on, you can still win it all in solo even with shit aim. ive won several times with only 1 kill by hiding/baiting people into fighting each other, then just 1v1-ing the final person for the win. other times on the original map, when the circle has been favorable, i just find a boat, go out to sea, and chill and let everyone kill each other until the final 10 or so before making a triumphant amphibious assault. 90% of the time i am sniped as i get out of the boat, but the other 10%.... chicken dinner.

favorite weapon? for an aim-challenged person like me, it must be the 686 aka THE GOD KILLER

A public beta game, that is also a microtransaction hotbed?

    Fucking lol.

This game is sheer cancer, and a total rip off.

Yeah not quite sure what it's a rip of. Player Unknown created the mod that started this whole craze

They may have meant rip-off in financial terms, like waste of money.

I myself really really enjoy this game, I haven't eaten many chicken dinners but it is still fun in my opinion.

    Yeah, that.

I was being drunk and overly criticla. If you enjoy the game, by all means play it.

But to me being unfinished and also a massive microtransaction filled game? Totally against what I would have any interest in.

Yeah I can see where you're coming from with the microtransactions. However in fairness, they are cosmetic only and dont really provide any gameplay advantage.

And on another note, comparing it to games who are still in early access after years and years, H1Z1, DayZ, etc. PUBG has done a good job leaving early access and coming into a 1.0 release within the first year of release.

Just to be clear I'm not trying to start an argument, just a few points I wanted to add to the discussion! I can still see why you wouldnt like the game, and everyone is obviously entitled to their own opinion of course.

Nobody at all should ever be critical of cosmetic only microtransactions. They don't affect the game and it's still a neat way for the devs to make some extra cash.
Plus if you're a lucky bastard you can make some cash of your own.

PUBG's been out of early access for a month, with plans to release more maps, clothing, vehicles, and weapons over time (for free).

Also, "massive microtransaction filled" makes this sound like a mobile game. The only microtransactions are optional cosmetics in the form of lootboxes (a la Overwatch). Though there are a special class of boxes that require a key ($) to open like Rocket League, there are plenty that are also free. Again, these are only cosmetics. You can also equip any of the clothing you find in the standard loot pools within the game and this does not affect gameplay.

What game were you thinking of when you made your comment? Doesn't sound like PUBG.

This is true as well. I've made somewhere around $70 from the game so far. It has already paid for itself and a few smaller Steam games.

Agreed, I won the game from a giveaway, so anything I made i'm extremely happy with, and since the game seems to somewhat be improving over time, I am happy to help the company by buying keys, after all, everyone wants to look decent when they die on the game.

Earn BP from playing games, get crates with BP, open for free, or with a key dependant on the case, profit. Most items will be between 3 and 20 pence, but every now and again you might get that special item, example being that I got a trenchcoat from a case that didnt require a key, and this went for £20, so it was easy money.

Yes indeedy. The bright yellow jacket I wear goes for ~$30. I already sold one and am considering selling the second. Not holding onto it for vanity/cosmetic or sentimental value, I just figure it'll go up eventually so I haven't parted with it (yet).

This also creates a bot issue, because this business model promotes bot accounts that do hardly anything and just grind multiple games per day, farming BP in the hopes of getting an item worth selling.
