Watch Ospreay/Kushida from Invasion Attack, and if that doesn't float your boat, then stay away from all other Will matches. Kushida/Liger might be more up your street.

EDIT - Kushida/KOR and Taguchi/Sydal were pretty good too.

OH WAIT Lee/Hiromu have their first match in Japan in 2016 at fantasticamania. That's the best Jr match of the year.

also heel Naito is terrible and the Destino is fucking horrendous

    what a stinky, stinky match
Welcome to modern NJPW. Too Sweet. Woop Woop.

Naito as a full heel didn't work at all and he didn't really click until he changed from full heel to the tweener role he has now. It took him a while (a few months) to find a balance between the character in the wrestling. I personally think this is a big reason for why Gedo is hesitant to put the title back on him now despite his current popularity. Could be other reasons I don't know but this short title run certainly doesn't help. The western/sport entertainment stuff has been by far the worst part of the company for a while, especially in 2018 with the Tongans/Bullet Club storyline.

As for the best Junior matches of 2016, Taguchi vs Kushida/Ospreay for a non title match and Ospreay vs Kushida for a title match.

Still in the....who?...stage. Will figure it all out.

My son just left, he comes over once a week to watch the Raw, Smackdown, New Japan we have stored up on DVR. Yes we do a lot of fast forwarding until we come to New Japan. And while with the exception of Kenny Omega we are dealing with lesser names than what the WWE has to offer. The WWE can't match the quality of action/excitement we see in a NJ match.

So many times Mason (son) will say....never seen that before. With me.....me either.

This is the best wrestling out there right now, when it comes to in ring performances.

Yes, we do like the angles/bigger than life personalities we see in the WWE over NJ........right now.

Discovered NJ on ATX about six months ago, yep, we are still rookies.

I have a favor to ask.

Just what is the pecking order in NJ?

    What is their top 10?

watched both, they were solid but nothing outstanding. KUSHIDA sets up his finish with a logical arm-work based match, but it otherwise a fairly bland guy. Ospreay's selling was very good, but he's also quite a bland guy and the match was very vanilla... him trying to do the "badass gaijin" schtick felt really forced. Liger match was good but then it ended before they could really go into a big end run it felt like they were building to, instead it never felt like Liger had any believable nearfalls/subs, which was a shame.

i may ask this question again when i get to watch 2017/18 stuff.

    Lee/Hiromu Fantasticamania, Okada/Ishii G1, Okada/Tanahashi G1 were my top 3 for the year.

Naito/Omega G1 was the match people went gaga for that year, but not so much for me.

I'd say Ishii vs Shibata - New Beginnings, Goto vs Omega - G1 Finals, Naito vs Omega - G1, Shibata vs O'Reily - KOPW, Okada vs Tanahashi - G1, Okada vs Ishii - G1, Nakajima vs Elgin - G1.

The last one is more personal than the others but the others are often widely considered MOTYC's for 2016.

Surprised you didn't mention your favourite match of all time Marufuji Vs Okada

Big Mike Vs Nakajima made my top 5 for New Japan too, so I'd agree it was a great match.

That match is very controversial opposed to the rest. Thought it was best to stick with something more safe instead. And it's no Taichi vs Goto, that's the GOAT match.

Tetsuhiro Yagi has decided to leave New Japan and wrestling for "personal reasons". Shame because he was a talented prospect.

He was my favourite of this batch of YLs. They seem to be having some bad luck recently with Kitamura’s injury and now this. Oka And Kawato aren’t doing well overseas either.

    Re: NJPW General Discussion Thread

decided to check out a recent match and watched Ospreay vs Hiromu from the February show. I think I can now safely avoid both men's NJPW work. NJ junior wrestling still boring and vanilla AF. But I'd also rather Ospreay be vanilla than watch his Davey Richards-level bad acting. Fully expected Hiromu to be another boring junior once he went back to Japan and that feels about right, totally lost everything that made him stand out in CMLL.

    What matches prove me wrong.

Kenny Omega may be the topic of a HBO documentary.

Kenny Omega is reportedly the subject of an upcoming HBO documentary that will be released in 2019.

According to Toronto musician Joseph Shabason, he scored music for the untitled documentary about Omega, and said it would be released some time in 2019. Shabason was a guest on the Kreative Kontrol podcast with Vish Khanna and made the following comments about the project:

"I just finished a documentary about a wrestler. That’s going to be coming out on HBO in the New Year, which is going to be really exciting.

It’s a wrestler named Kenny Omega. He’s a wrestler from Winnipeg, but went to Japan and formed this tag team called the Golden Lovers, which was sort of like the first ever queer storyline in wrestling. He’s a pretty incredible dude; I was really happy with scoring that."

The cable network is no stranger to professional wrestling, as HBO also co-produced the Andre The Giant documentary that premiered in April with WWE, JMH Films and Ringer Films. No other confirmed details about the Kenny Omega project are known at this time.
Should be decent to see another side of Omega. Looking forward to it.

He seems to enjoy being the the States so if he gets signed, good for him. With KUSHIDA being a big part of the Junior division for years, he will be missed but this will an open opportunity for other, newer and fresher guys to take the mantel. The Juniors sadly aren't a game changer in New Japan anymore so it doesn't affect New Japan TOO much.

Gonna be a big month. This All Elite Wrestling roster won't be impressive.

He's only Jr champion atm because Ospreay hurt, pretty clear his time at the top of that division is over unless there's an emergency because of Sho and Yoh coming through on top of Ishimori and Shingo as newcomers to the division this year. The only way I'd be please about him going to WWE is if it's straight to 205 Live, the A-Brand, if it's just for NXT then I'd rather he stay put.
