Zack will always be in my favorite list, even if he didn’t make my actual face five. Guy has been great for years now.

A huge point difference between 4th place and our 3rd place. Tetsuya Naito had another great year in 2017. He held the IWGP Intercontinental Championship from 2016 and had successful defenses against Hiroshi Tanahashi, Michael Elgin, and Juice Robinson before losing the title to Tanahashi. In the Summer he won his second G1 Climax, defeating Kenny Omega in the finals. He's made himself one of the most popular wrestlers in NJPW in contrast to a few years ago.

We finish off the list with Okada and Dunne. The new Ace of New Japan had a huge year in 2017. Successfully defending the IWGP Heavyweight Championship throughout the year, he had notable matches against Kenny Omega, Katsuyori Shibata, Minoru Suzuki, Michael Elgin, SANADA, Cody, Kota Ibushi Tiger Mask W, EVIL, and Satoshi Kojima. Will his dominance continue or will somebody finally defeat the Rain Maker? Our number one had a fantastic 2017. He held the PROGRESS World Title for most of 2017 until losing it to Travis Banks. He became the second ever WWE UK Champion. He had 3 great matches against Tyler Bate and it looks like he's calling out the big guns of WWE and is ready to take on anybody.

    Very jappy indeed.

Honestly didn’t expect Dunne to take the crown, but I love it. Great, diverse list and great job Mitch!

Great work, Mitch. I would have voted for Dunne but didn't realize until it was (almost) too late that the WWE dudes were allowed. Not that he needed the help! Good job Bruiserweight.

Good for Dunne, he was really good last year. He a good trilogy of matches with Tyler Bate, had a good run with the Progress Title, excellent character work. Okada will win it next year with his GOAT pants tipping him over the edge.
