Is Step Brothers a Christmas movie?

    It has scenes during Christmas.

I've been watching Die Hard on Christmas for like 15 years.

    I'd actually say yes.

I think a movie is a Christmas movie if there's Christmas going on around it.

There's just different degrees of how much Christmas is going on.

Obviously a movie like Elf, Scrooged or Christmas vacation have a much more Christmas presence than Batman returns for example.

Though I enjoy Christmas movies, I hate Christmas themed episodes of tv shows

Ya I think if a movie just has a Christmas atmosphere or setting it can qualify for this.

One of the movies on my list is probably a more controversial take than Die Hard but meets that criteria.

If the majority of the film happens during the Christmas period, then I'd say yes. If it's just a couple of scenes (like Serendipity, which starts and - I think - ends at Christmas but is mostly just not at Christmas) then it doesn't count as a Christmas movie for me personally... but everyone has their own standards for this kind of thing; like those crazy people that don't count Die Hard as a Christmas movie even though it all happens on Christmas eve and has a ton of references to Christmas in it.

There is admittedly one film in my list that isn't a proper Xmas film, but it's one my family always watched this time of year.

It's got snow in at least

I took a swing. That movie is forever linked to Christmas for me because I remember when I was kid, there was a run of like three years where Empire was on TV every Christmas day and I never failed to watch it.

Alright folks, the lists are all in but it’s going to take me a little bit to start the countdown as I’ve got some last second Christmas shopping to do. I’ll do my best to have the 10 pointers up this afternoon. Cheers~!

Re: WC's Fave Five Christmas Movies~!

Actually, I've got a few free moments before I head out so let's do the 10 pointers now...

    17T. Cool Runnings - 10 Points (Postman Dave #5)

    17T. Jack Frost - 10 Points (TCON #5)

17T. Jingle All The Way - 10 Points (Dook Gulak #5)

    17T. Krampus - 10 Points (Thundercat #5)

    17T. The Night Before - 10 Points (Panther #5)

    17T. The Ref - 10 Points (Professor Booty #5)

    17T. Silent Night, Deadly Night - 10 Points (RaiZ-R #5)

I didn't really consider any of the movies up there for my own list but I do enjoy Cool Runnings, Jingle All The Way, Krampus, The Ref and Silent Night, Deadly Night. In fact, I own the latter on both DVD (with Part 2) and the new Shout Factory Blu Ray. Still wasn't enough to make my list so I'll ask RaiZ not to "punish" me.

Next up, a whopping 10 movies get us through the 20 and 30 pointers~!

Re: WC's Fave Five Christmas Movies~!

I didn't even think of Cool Runnings as a Christmas movie or notice it on the list provided for that matter, but to be fair I was skimming through it for the most part so that's partly my fault. I love Cool Runnings though, it's a great movie and John Candy is the best in it.

Whenever I see Jack Frost I think of the horror movie with the same name, which is awesomely bad. The sequel they made for it was just as awesomely bad.

Jingle All The Way is one I considered but ultimately left it off, so I'm glad it made someone's list.

They only ever show it on TV this time of year too if that helps. And yeah, John Candy rules. PEACE BE THE JOURNEY.

Gutted JATW is so low, would be a fave ten film for me if that was a thing that actually existed.

I never liked Jingle All The Way there I said it.

Then again I voted for a movie where Seth Rogen is stoned for two hours (ISN'T THAT ALL SETH ROGEN MOVIES FRACT EHEHEHE) so what do I know about Christmas flicks.

Dang I didn't even think about Cool Runnings, one of my favorite Movies growing up as a kid. Jingle all the Way I still think I have on VHS in Storage somewhere really funny Movie throughout the film. In 96 with all I was into back then I bet my Parents had plenty of grey hairs trying to get four kids a nice present or two each.

Good lord man, that would mean I'd have to do DOUBLE the work.

    16T. A Charlie Brown Christmas - 20 Points (Professor Booty #4)

    16T. The Grinch - 20 Points (Dook Gulak #4)

16T. Home Alone 2: Lost in New York - 20 Points (Kairi HoHo #4)

16T. The Nightmare Before Christmas - 20 Points (Lucha Bear #4)

    16T. On Her Majesty's Secret Service - 20 Points (Creeping Death #4)

    15T. Batman Returns - 30 Points (BD22 #4, Jiggy #5)

    15T. Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas - 30 Points (Professor Booty #3)

    15T. Holiday Inn - 30 Points (Jiggy #3)

    15T. White Christmas - 30 Points (BD22 #3)

15T. The Year Without a Santa Claus - 30 Points (Kairi HoHo #3)

Several good choices up there including Charlie Brown, Emmet Otter, Holiday Inn and White Christmas. I love Batman Returns as well but I've never really considered it a Christmas movie in the grand scheme of things. Still the better of the two Tim Burton movies in this section though. I've never seen The Year Without a Santa Claus but it seems pretty cool so I'll probably give it a shot at some point. OHMSS is the best Bond movie but I can't really justify it as a Christmas one even though it has that Santa's reindeer song in it. I'd vote for Diana Rigg almost any other time though.

Next up, we cover everything else outside of the top ten including the first of two very different movies directed by the same guy.
