Great book and Garland has a lot of favour with me after Ex Machina so I’ll definitely be giving this one a watch.

This isn't the Mortal Kombat reboot I was expecting.

No lies MK: Annihilation is one of the best soundtracks ever.

This looks pretty interesting but I kind of feel like they showed too much in the trailer (as per usual). Didn't actually need to see a creature to know there's some fucked up creature involved.
Prepare to lose a war of attrition in 10,000 words or more.

i really wonder if theyll deviate hard from the 2nd half of the book. i dont think the way the book ended would be satisfactory for horror/thriller movie audiences.

No idea what anyone else is talking about but the talent in this cast gives me a cinematic boner. Yes please.

I was ready to go see this early next week but now that I see it's going to be on Netflix shortly I guess I'll just wait. I wonder how the box office for this is going to look given how many people can just see it at home in a couple of weeks.

Looking forward to this but probably not enough to hit up the theater, so the Netflix deal is sweet. This better not suck.

The Netflix thing actually makes me a tad concerned about the film now. There's no middle ground with Netflix exclusives, they're either brilliant or fucking dreadful.

    Total Lifetime Grosses
    Domestic: $11,000,000
This movie had a 55 million dollar budget which Netflix is said to have pretty much fully covered with the international rights to the movie.

    Re: Annihilation (2018)

Speaking of those international rights, I've got a little clarification on Netflix's streaming of this movie. It's only going to be available in certain international markets (UK confirmed but definitely not China) in a couple of weeks. US & Canada will NOT be getting it then so if you're interested in seeing this it may be best to hit the theater after all. I'm going to try my best to get out this week since it's apparently quite the mind fuck.

    Re: Annihilation (2018)

Just got back from seeing this tonight, I haven't read the books at all and really didn't know a thing about the movie going in. I thought it was really bloody weird, the first 3/4 of the movie I loved, then it got a little odd and some parts seemed rushed. The ending was kinda typical but I didn't mind it, apparently the story continues in the next two books? So I wonder if we'll be getting another one.

Anybody who's read the book seen this yet? I'm thinking I might add the book to my to read list.

Caught this today and while it deviated from the book I think Garland did more than enough to make it his own story while staying true to the essence of VanderMeer's source material. I'm not sure the box office is going to allow for sequels but I also don't think that was Garland's intention in the first place. What I do know is that this is the first contender for my top ten of 2018. Outside of some shady acting during a key moment and slightly underdeveloped character motivations, this was as close to brilliant as I expect from a movie this early in the year. I don't want to say too much until others have seen it but I can totally get why people will absolutely hate on this movie for the wrong reasons. It's not even that it's too smart for its own good, because it's not, but more that the high concept will probably just be off-putting to a lot of folks.

I'll say this; it's more of a psychological horror film than it is a sci-fi one and if you go into it expecting that you'll more than likely be impressed. 8.5/10 and it may be enough to get me to resurrect the long dormant FujiFilm 2.
