I was too busy still complaining about him trading Thor for RA Dickey’s 36 mph fastball.

Thor wasn't Thor yet he was in single A. It's unfair to retroactively grade the trade in that sense. Dickey was an inning eating, recent cy young winner that fit on the competitive timeline. Obviously having Thor now would be a boon but he wasn't a surefire thing then.

Unfair to retroactively grade it but fair enough to still be bitter about it.

Pretty happy to hear my Phillies scoop up Carlos Santana and they traded away Freddy Galvis as well today for a Prospect.

Incredible trade. Really creative way to bounce Kemp out of town and adding something of substance to the roster. The free agent class next year is stacked and while I doubt we get the big ticket guys it opens up a lot of possibilities. It makes the team better in 2018 too. What a trade. Really good for both teams tbh.

The World Series champion Houston Astros have boosted their rotation with another big arm, acquiring Gerrit Cole from the Pittsburgh Pirates in a five-player trade.

Cole, 27, went 12-12 with a 4.26 ERA, 196 strikeouts and 55 walks while making a career-high 33 starts in 2017. On Friday, Cole and the Pirates reached agreement on a one-year contract worth $6.75 million. He had one year of arbitration remaining and was likely to command a huge raise in 2019, one of the reasons the Pirates had considered trading him.

    ESPN
The Astros pitching staff is really shaping up to be a major force to reckon with, with the acquisition of Gerrit Cole. What a move by the Pirates to get him.

I thought we could've gotten more. We didn't have to rush into a deal. I don't like Colin Moran at all either.

But at the same time, Cole isn't an ace. He's solid, but he's was overrated. He was also coming off a really bad season, another reason why I thought the Pirates should wait and not sell low.

But none the less he was a solid number 2 pitcher coming off an ugly year, prone to injuries, and was likely walking when it came time for him to hit the real market in a couple of years.

Hopefully we can something a little better for Cutch, but then again I've learned not to doubt the front office when it comes to trades. We've made some decent moves that we're criticized early that turned out to be solid. Hanrahan one comes to mind. So we'll see.

Cutch is off to San Francisco. No word yet what the Pirates get in return from the Giants but it's reportedly not one of the top three prospects.

lol beat me to it TGO.

Anyways. That's a huge move by the Giants to acquire McCutchen. The Giants' batting lineup is looking more dangerous after they acquired Evan Longoria.

They got two players who are nobodies and 500000 in international money and some cash.
Kyle Crick and Bryan Reynolds. I don't see how selling these guys off for nothing helps them in the future. I also am hearing that Milwaulkee is interested in Josh Harrison so he could be gone as well.

Kyle Crick is actually one of the names I thought if when I was trying to think of the few decent prospects the Giants had. I've been loosely following Crick since the Giants got him. He's got some upside.

But I wish we would've tried to package Cutch and Cole together for a bigger payout instead of selling low for both of them.

Reynolds is one of their top five prospects, I believe.

And we are paying 2.8 million of his salary. Reynolds is their 5th I believe.

That’s quite the batch, perhaps my favorite class of all time. All four players are guys I admired a lot growing up.
