    Impact is Bankrupting Anthem?

    https://deadspin.com/impact-wrestlin...urn-1820040266

The Canadian TV network that bought TNA has laid off staff repeatedly throughout the year. Anthem no longer has a new division, which was once the best part of The Fight Network... besides Dutch kickboxing and 5-year old CMLL shows....

If they have to get rid of LAW which is very well know then it must do. Impact is hemorrhaging money.

Score one of the smarky internet wrestling nerds here (and everywhere) who said it was a terrible idea for Anthem/TFN to do this.

You never want to hear this bad news with a PPV coming about Anthem and TNA not doing right now, but I take this negativity outta my mind because I'm going to hope and pray the Company keeps going for TNA's sake.

Shouldn't come as a surprise, Leonard Asper is a terrible businessman who rode his fathers coattails before helping destroy the company he founded.

What I'm most concerned about is how Asper is going to buy WWE while he's busy putting Anthem into receivership.

Seems this company is just destined to die. Then again, people have been saying this for years. Shame really, Impact has improved greatly over the past few months.

Someone will buy Impact before they'd die.

Jim said years ago TNA was a cockroach that'd survive a nuclear catastrophe and it was the most right thing he said before he praised scrappy doo. Every time it seems over for them they kick out. Except the long drawn out kickouts and pins are more HBK/HHH HIAC than HBK/Taker.

    Re: Impact is Bankrupting Anthem?

Time to raise the subscription price of the Global Wrestling Network to $49.99 a month. Worth it for the content, it's TNA AND SMASH remember.

What was the last promotion that died? Pretty much everyone from that early 00's indie boom is still alive and kicking. Kind of impressive that TNA/ROH/CZW/PWG/Chikara are still going and have had longer runs than ECW/WCW.

Anyone who buys Impact this time deserves to go bankrupt, when was the last time this company made anyone money? Anthem aren't a small company and they are losing money out the arse.

They're more of a TV show than an actual promotion so I'm not sure they count. I'm sure that project will die long before TNA does.

It's more of a TV show than a company, but Wrestling Society X could count.

Would Dragon Gate USA count since Gabe just kept everything going with EVOLVE and WWN?

What about Global Force Wrestling? Does that count or do they count as a merger with TNA or are they technically still alive in TNA's name? In which case, does that mean technically TNA died?

There was that Squared Circle Wrestling that died in 2015 that I don't know how big they were, but it wasn't uncommon to see mentions of them due to the amount of significant indie stars they had.

So as far as last significant company that died, it's either WCW or WSX, if you want to count the latter. It seems far more common for companies to seemingly die, but then be brought back like JAPW, IWA-MS, FMW, FIP, ect.

Sad to see. Wai Ting and John Pollock were my favorite guys on there. I would listen to a bunch of content from there. Now all of them are gone.

Some of these layoffs hit a bit close to him. Robin Black is a friend of a friend. Met him once or twice when my friend was fighting.

I didn't know if I should post this in this thread or the "Impact Wrestling on the Rise" thread by our banned super-fan / bot.... but read a couple of reports that the company let go of all their referees this week and will only use "local" refs. That's a good sign of progress, right? I'd find links but don'tgiveafuck.

An Ottawa casting agency tweeted out a casting call for paid fans for Impact's tapings in Ottawa. That's a good sign, right?

    Re: Impact is Bankrupting Anthem?

The saddest thing about this is that unless TNA were stupid (Which obviously we shouldn't rule out ), the idea of paid fans was not the first idea TNA had to fill up the arena. Off of the top of my head, there's:

    - Lowering ticket prices
    - Giving tickets away to various companies, radio stations, ect, for them to give away as prizes
    - Unpaid seat fillers - I've done this with the WWE
    - Giving away tickets - slightly different from the second item as TNA skips over the middle man and just unloads the tickets to try and bring people in, sometimes you do this while the show is going on and you pull people off of the street

After all that, should you begin to wonder if it'd be better to pay people to fill out the arena. Keep in mind, TNA isn't going to pay anyone to be in the last row. This is simply to fill out what you can easily see on TV, which also means they don't even have enough fans to re-arrange the seating so that the camera side is virtually empty but the other side is filled with fans. WCW was doing that back in 1993.

*Edit* Furthermore, can you imagine how frustrating it must be if you're a recently released member of TNA or Anthem. Knowing that TNA can't afford you for your talents any longer, yet they're openly looking to pay fans to watch the show?
