    Apple Product Battery Issues

So lately I've been noticing some issues with the batteries on both my iPad Air 2 and iPhone 5S. The battery will show as 100% charged and then as soon as I go into an app (doesn't really matter which one, sometimes it's just browsing the web) it'll drop to, say, 84%. If I plug it back in it'll jump back up to 93% and then sit and recharge all the way to 100%. Then it'll work fine for awhile and then repeat the same process. This almost always happens when it's apparently fully charged so I'm not sure why opening one app would kill the battery so much. Those numbers above are not always what they go to either, they're usually fairly random.

Has anyone else experienced this issue and if so do you have any suggestions on how to fix it?

It's an Apple what did you really expect?

Anywho....could it be a faulty charger? That's usually the first port of call, followed by a charging port before you think about anything internally such as the battery etc...which you can't change in an Apple can you?
I have a plan so cunning......

I know they've got issues but I've never had any problems with their products and I've been using them for years. I've tried replacing the chargers but it doesn't make a difference. The weird thing is it doesn't happen all the time so I doubt it's the battery itself.

How old are the products? The missus has a 5C, which is about 3 and a half years old and she has almost the exact same problem with the battery just draining. From full charge it can go down to around 60% in about half and hour if she’s using it. I’ve got a 7, and the battery is much better on this.

We have an IPad Air too, but barely use it. Battery lasts quite a while on that.

Are they updated to all latest versions of iOS? I think sometimes they put things in to improve battery performance.

The 5S is just over 3 years old so I'm not too shocked it's happening with it. The Air 2 is just over a year old and the issues actually tend to happen with it more than the phone. They're both updated to the latest OS but I will say that the issue definitely seems more pronounced since the move to OS11.

Is background refresh turned off? Someone at work said that could be one reason, as I think the new software update auto turns it on.

Yeah, it did turn back on but I've turned it off since then. I was actually sure that's what was causing it initially but no dice.

A lot of users are having this issue after the OS11 update, so it’s not just you. No fix as of yet that I am aware of, but the testing users of the 11.1 beta 5 are reporting much better battery life, so it might be a wait and see tbh.

Yeah, I figured it may be OS related since it spiked after the update to 11. Here's hoping they come up with something soon, it's really annoying.

    Re: Apple Product Battery Issues

I have an iPhone 5s and most days I leave work at the end of the day with like 75% battery life. However on some days it is at like 20% and I have used it no more than I usually do.

That has happened for a while though and I don't get updates any longer because my phone doesn't have enough memory for them to download.

Hurrah for the flag of the free!
May it wave as our standard forever,
The gem of the land and the sea,
    The banner of the right.
    Let tyrants remember the day
When our fathers with mighty endeavor
Proclaimed as they marched to the fray
That by their might and by their right
    It waves forever.

    Re: Apple Product Battery Issues

It's likely due to the OS update, unfortunately. I've had a lot of people come to my work with their iPhones after the newest OS was released with this same issue. Unfortunately there didn't seem to be a fix that I could find that was reliable, just hope that Apple release something soon to fix it.

I'd maybe also suggest letting the battery completely drain and recharge fully with an official apple lightning cable and wall plug, just in case it's not OS related. Unfortunately issues like this seem to always crop up when new iPhone models come out. The 5C has an issue where it won't auto detect the time and will frequently disconnect from Wi-Fi/Mobile Data and not be able to find them again unless you do a reset.

I did this as well as turning Background App Refresh on and then off again after it was fully charged and it seems to have done the trick. Thanks to everyone for their input in this thread, hopefully this is the end of my trouble but it's an Apple product so I doubt it.
