No Way Out Chyna Should Have Replaced HBK At No Way Out '98.

The main event of In Your House: No Way Out was scheduled to be Shawn Michaels, Triple H, and New Age Outlaws vs. Steve Austin, Owen Hart, Cactus Jack, Chainsaw Charlie, however due to Shawn Michaels having a back injury, he was pulled and replaced by Savio Vega. Vega's involvement in this match made no sense. The crowd reaction to Vega was a dead one. Vega had no involvement with any one on either team. It would have been a better move to put Chyna in the match. She was a member of D-X, and she was known to mix it up with the males from time to time, and she even took a Stone Cold Stunner after the match. In addition to making more sense, Chyna would have been the first woman to be in the main event of a WWF pay-per-view.

It absolutely made sense for Savio Vega to be in the match. Was it a disappointing replacement? Sure, but Savio and the rest of Los Boricuas had been just like the New Age Outlaws as being associates of sorts of DX. At the time, Chyna had never had a single match. To randomly involve her would have been pretty silly. Ultimately, whoever the WWE was going to choose to replace HBK was going to be a disappointment because how is anyone supposed to compare to the WWE Champion? Unless it was a surprise debut by a WCW wrestler, every back-up choice would have been a let down.

    Savio though? No problem there.

*Edit* After a quick double check, it was just in January that Owen had a bit of a feud with Los Boricuas to hold him over while Triple H was out with an injury.

A double post, but bringing up something different.

For me, the biggest misstep by the WWE at No Way Out of Texas wasn't HBK's replacement, but the fact that Mick Foley and Terry Funk were even booked on that show. The WWE ran this amazing angle the second to last Raw before the PPV with Funk and Foley seemingly seriously injured by the New Age Outlaws in the dumpster. So much time was devoted on that episode of Raw to make it appear to be a legitimate event, only to be ruined by Foley and Funk returning from the hospital that same night. For such a big angle, they should have been out of action as long as possible before their return to set up the Wrestlemania match. It's not as if they were needed for the No Way Out of Texas match. It would have made just as much sense to have LOD be in the match instead.
