SD Live JBL to leave SmackDown Live

JBL to step away from the SmackDown LIVE broadcast team

"After much consideration, I will be stepping back my weekly role as Smackdown Announcer to dedicate more continuous time on the work I have done since 2010 with at risk kids and communities. My new schedule will allow me to continue to be a part of the WWE family and also continue my work that I feel is the most important thing in my life. I will continue my 20+ year relationship with WWE and will appear on such marquee shows as Tribute to the Troops, WrestleMania, amongst others.

With the help of Beyond Sport, I founded Beyond Rugby Bermuda in 2010--which has been recognized as one of the world's best charities for work with at risk, gang focused, youth intervention. Beyond Rugby Bermuda won the 2014 NACRA Fair Play Award out of 7,000 programs and 17 countries for its work with at risk kids. I was named as a Beyond Sport Global Ambassador--an organization backed by all major sports leagues in the U.S.

I'm proud to say that in addition to being Smackdown's longest reigning WWE Champion, I inspired WWE's Tribute to the Troops over 10 years ago. WWE has been my partner in all my philanthropic works and this new deal with WWE ensures that will continue. WWE has made my dreams come true and helped me become a global name. And now, WWE is helping me use that name to make a difference."

WWE admires JBL’s continued determination to make a difference in the lives of at-risk kids in Bermuda and around the world.

Meh. He's okay on SD, but it's not going to bring the show's value down. I really wish we'd get Mauro/Phillips on SD.

    lol

99% chance this means Lawler is back full time on SD and Booker is back on Raw this week.

Oh please no, not "Puppies" King, anyone but him....

As for JBL, he's making a difference and people may be happy he's not going to be around as much, so all round win for everyone?

Re: JBL to leave SmackDown Live

JBL was good back in the day and was good when he initially returned, but in the last year or two he's become incredibly annoying to listen to. I won't miss hearing "right on the button!" or "BALL GAME!" a million times per match. He was much better behind the table during his last run in that role.

He's going to be sticking with WWE though and I expect he'll have a role at Wrestlemania. I'd also expect to see him commentate again at some point.
As for who replaces him, common sense dictates that it'll be Lawler, with Booker staying on Raw (it seems that he's replaced Otunga full time now, which is good).

JBL gone from SD best news I've heard this week. He never was a good Commentator to me, screaming and yelling and not being able to story is something he lacked. He always wanted to tie something he said on his career when I was WWE Champion blah blah happy to see him go. I would love to see Mauro on SD, no King..NO KING!

Fans of twitter have been saying bring back Taz, that could be fun....but what would also be fun is Heyman.....I know it'll never happen but I love Paul E no commentary.

Fair play to him for what he is doing in Barbados but i was never a fan of his whole "MAGGLE" schtick.

Bring back Taz or even call up McGuiness.

Please God no, Anyone but Tazz. I've always hated him on commentary, thought he was terrible.

I like the idea of Kevin Nash doing it, that could work. Sting may be an option too perhaps? I wonder if Mark Henry would be any good at it? Given that he's transitioning out of the ring currently that could be a gig for him? I think he'd prefer a backstage training role though. I could certainly see Chris Jericho doing commentary down the line, though he still has time left in the ring before he retires from in-ring competition.

Re: JBL to leave SmackDown Live

WWE's got enough potential announcers on their pay book without bringing back Tazz.

Would love for Renee Young to get another go at commentating, but according to her Twitter she doesn't think she was good at it in NXT.

Here's an idea...could they just go with the two man booth for SD? I know it's unlikely as everything seems to be a three person team so probably won't happen but surely two is doable for them?

That'd be my preference too, but

    a) it's WWE

    b) the two man team of Todd Phillips & Byron Saxton doesn't do a lot for me. They need a decent colour commentator to work off.

She wasn't That was an awful time on commentary with Renee and Alex Riley's interactions.

I think it's great news because I hate JBL's commentary the majority of the time. Personally would leave it at a 2 man booth and allow SD to feel different without having one guy be the obvious backer of the heels. I wouldn't be against Daniel Bryan joining commentary just to get more out of the guy. I predict they're gonna call up Nigel because Michael Cole is a big fan of his work this year on commentary.

Yeah, Renee was never that good and blowhards like Riley never helped.

I long for the days of a two man booth in the WWE and it feels like that will never happen again. There's such a weird fascination for three man booths, mostly to have the one guy be the butt of the joke. Tom and Byron could be a fine two man booth because I feel like Byron's proven to be competent when it's just him and someone else and he doesn't have the pressure of having to play a goofy happy go lucky character or be fodder for a bully.

I can honestly say that I have never had anything I would call a bad blowjob, that wasn't a great experience but up until I started gushing blood I was having a great time!
