NJPW What's so good about Okada vs. Omega?

I really don't get how the match has a 6.25 rating.

It started of good with Omega targeting the knee but by the middle of the match Okada seemed to of stopped selling it.

One of the highlights was Omega doing a moonsault from the outside while Okada stands there like a idiot and takes it.

I really don't get why that stupid spot is all ways done in matches.

It just didn't feel hard hitting enough for a Japanese match for me.

The match just looked very obviously choreographed. I didn't feel invested into the match, it was just a good display of athleticism and nothing more.

I know this sounds obvious, but it has a 6.25 rating because one guy wanted to rate it that high. If Meltzer thinks it's a 6.25 match, it's a 6.25 match to him. If you think it's a 2 star match, it's a 2 star match to you.

Meltzer is good for a lot of things, but taking his ratings seriously is not one of them.

Not to mention he's clearly moved into self-parody with this exaggerated rating so it's even harder to take him seriously.

Oh man, I've talked too much about these matches this year

Not much else to add at this stage, but they are definitely polarizing matches.

Meltzer ratings mean nothing. It's obvious the guy has a preference for a specific type of product. The 6.25 rating is, more or less, his way of saying he finds the match to be a level above anything else. I can't remember his criteria on rating matches but I know crowd investment + personal emotional investment plays a part. Idk why people use him to argue whether something's good or not. Wrestling's personal taste.

My mind changes a lot but I think the WK match is better. Okada's selling in the Dominion match is definitely a negative point (really the only one I can think of tbh) in terms of performance. Really, your enjoyment of the match is gonna be curtailed by whether you're invested in either guy and the storyline between the duo.

It's a great match with callbacks, drama and does a fantastic job of continuing the story between the duo. The action is really well done. If you're into Okada or Omega and how they've been building each guy, you're gonna love the match since it does pretty much everything right. If you're not then you're gonna have issues with it going long, Okada being in control at the end and so on.

I can't tell if this is actual criticism or not. But it's Okada vs Omega, what do you expect? If you want a super hard hitting style match then watch Ishii or Shibata or Big Japan instead. NJPW's main event (Okada, Tana, Naito, Omega) aren't guys who are gonna stiff the fuck out of each other. That's not the style they're going for and it's not like today's Japanese wrestling is all about that style. The top three companies in Japan aren't renowned for being super shooty stiff style (NJPW, DG, DDT). If this is a genuine criticism then it's possibly the worst I've seen towards an Okada/Omega match. Worse than hating the match cause of a Tombstone not finishing it. It's like me saying I didn't enjoy a cruiserweight match cause there's no high flying flippy shit.

The ****** 1/4 rating makes sense to me even without seeing it. He loved the first match and got so worked up in the heat of the moment that it seemed way better than every other match in history. So now some time passes and their rematch entertained Dave even more. Naturally, it has to have a higher rating. The 6 star rating seems far more questionable than the 6 1/4 star rating.
