Re: Champions League 2017/18 Discussion Thread

Good group for United. Benfica away is always a tough game and Basel are good at home. Russia is always a hostile place to go too. But I don't think there's any reason why we shouldn't come away with a minimum of 12 points. We should be beating Moscow home and away, same with Basel. We should beat Benfica at home.

Spurs will do well to get through from that group, but it will be fascinating to see how they get on. It's between them and Dortmund for the second spot in the group. They may get lucky and sneak through, they won't want to drop into the Europa League which could scupper their League challenge.

I think Chelsea will have a tricky time of it. Roma and Atletico are both great sides.

Liverpool should get through their group as should City.

    Lol Celtic.

Re: Champions League 2017/18 Discussion Thread

Hopefully a big win tonight with Roma/Atletico drawing to start us off nicely.

Would like to see us line up like this

    Courtois

    Azpilicueta - Christensen - Cahill

    Zappacosta - Kante - Bakayoko - Alonso

    Pedro - Batshuayi - Hazard

As much as I'd like to see Hazard and Morata in full flow we need to rotate a bit. Being able to give Luiz, Fabregas, Willian and Morata a rest ahead of Sunday could be key.

Ahh United back in the champions legaue, seems like forver.

We should beat Basel at home easy, 3-0 but Lindeloff and smalling are playing. Could do with Moscow and Benfica drawing though.

Two crosses from Young that led to goals. Lukaku scoring on his CL debut.

Edit: Second cross was from Blind

    What. The. Fuck.

8 matches and no real upsets. Not one interesting result. Unless you want to count CSKA scoring a road win against Benfica, but that's hardly a big upset. 7 other matches all went pretty much to expectation. Bah, the Champions League sucks this season. I mean, if Arsenal were in it, they would have managed to lose to someone they shouldn't have. At least that would be fun and interesting.

Great win for United. Not great that Pogpa went off injured though. Hopefully this is a chance for Herrera to come back into the team on the weekend, though I suspect that Jose will go with Fellaini alongside Matic instead. Nice to see Young get a good game as I'm not his biggest fan, and Lukkaku scoring on his CL debut was great.
Got a load of points for my fantasy footy too overall tonight.

Who in their right mind tried to kick Mbappe. I've heard of kicking your opponents off the park but this takes the biscuit.

Not the ideal start for Celtic but I guess in that group the games against Anderlecht will be a straight shootout for the Europa League place.

Some stupid steamer that probably thought he was going to act like a big ticket. Shocking stuff.

Would've been fine if it was Neymar though.

And yeah, we're pretty much only taking Anderlecht seriously.

Haven't seen the match yet, but sounds like the ref decisions gave a real helping hand to Tottenham. guess UEFA wanted them to get over that Wembley hoodoo....

Hoping to watch Leipzig vs. Monaco

Two of the best, and most underrated teams in their leagues.

I think the only people underrated Leipzig are those who don't really follow the Bundesliga closely. Anyone who watches saw a side with very significant finances come into the league last year and do very well, because of a strong internal structure, clear idea of how they want to play, good coaching, and good players.

They are also one of the most hated sides in Germany, which is loads of fun to follow in league play.

Yeah. I would say they are my most hated side, but Real Madrid and now PSG have taken the cake.

RB Leipzig has the finances to buy Galatico level signings, but tend to stick to small signings and youth academy players, which I respect.

    PSG on the other hand...

Re: Champions League 2017/18 Discussion Thread

I don't think Leipzig are hated that much outside of Germany. The "plastic club" issue doesn't carry over in the same way unless you actually support a club in the Bundesliga. I'm not sure that a lot of football outside of Germany who don't pay close attention to the league really understand why Leipzig is hated within Germany.

Leipzig definitely have a better model than clubs that just pour money in, and more sustainable.

Is there not a case for arguing that Leipzig are only hated as they are because they are "new money"?
