WWE Network GCB's WWF 2001/2002 | "Moving on from the Invasion"

    SURVIVOR SERIES 2001
    Sunday November 18, 2001
    Greensboro, North Carolina

    ”WINNER TAKES ALL!”

    WWF EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP
    Christian [c] def. Al Snow

On a pivotal night for the WWF and it’s future, things got off to a bad start as the Alliance’s European Champion, Christian, retained the WWF’s gold by defeating Al Snow in the opening contest. Snow, the Lead Trainer on Tough Enough, came close to victory when he hit the Snow Plow but could not put Christian down for 3. This then allowed Christian to strike with the Unprettier and he got the Alliance’s evening off to the best possible start.

    SINGLE FALL MATCH
    William Regal def. Tajiri

Things continued to look promising for the Alliance when they were victorious in the second match as well as their commissioner, William Regal, knocked off his former protégé and WWF Cruiserweight Champion, Tajiri. After having strong words for Vince McMahon and his wife Linda earlier in the night, Regal proved he is fully committed to the Alliance as he not only defeated Tajiri but then delivered a further attack after the match. When Tajiri’s girlfriend, Torrie Wilson, then checked on the Japanese Buzzsaw, Regal proceeded to deliver a Powerbomb to her as well which did not go down well with the pro-WWF crowd in the arena.

WWF INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP & WCW UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP
    UNIFICATION MATCH

    Edge [c] def. Test [c]

With one of the WWF and the Alliance set to cease existence tonight, the opportunity to unify the mid-card titles was taken in the next match as WCW United States Champion, Edge – representing the WWF – faced the Alliance’s WWF Intercontinental Champion, Test. Confused? No need to be any more as Edge secured his future with whichever company survived by defeating Test with a roll –up to unify both titles. Depending on the company which would win in the main event, Edge would take his place in that company with the respective title.

WWF & WCW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS
    STEEL CAGE | UNIFICATION MATCH

Dudley Boyz [c] def. Hardy Boyz [c]

In a similar fashion to the previous match, the Dudley Boyz and the Hardy Boyz – long-time rivals – did battle to determine the Unified Tag Team Champions that would, regardless of the result in the main event, lead the Tag Team division moving forward. With victory via escape from the cage an option, Matt Hardy escaped the cage to leave the Hardys halfway to victory – or had he left Jeff in a Handicap situation instead? When Jeff looked set to escape the cage, it looked as if the Hardy Boyz’ future was secure until Jeff opted to deliver a Swanton Bomb to D’Von Dudley as he was sprawled over the table. Standing high on top of the cage, Jeff soared through the air – and D’Von moved. Crashing through the table, Jeff was finished and the 3 count was academic – the Dudley Boyz would be representing the surviving company as Tag Team Champions much to Matt’s dismay.

    IMMUNITY BATTLE ROYAL
Test def. Billy Gunn & 20 other WWF/WCW superstars

After being defeated earlier in the evening by Edge, Test was not initially scheduled to compete in this match but delivered a backstage beatdown to Scotty 2 Hotty to steal his spot. 22 men would do battle in a Battle Royal with the winner guaranteed immunity within the surviving company for at least twelve months. Tazz – fired from the Alliance last week – made a surprise return but was eliminated to the amusement of Paul Heyman; Tazz tried to attack Heyman but was escorted away by WWF officials. In the end, Test and Billy Gunn were the final two men remaining and Gunn thought he had won the match when he clotheslined Test over the top rope. However, Test held on and then hit the Big Boot to Gunn to eliminate him and secure the immunity.

    WWF WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP
    SIX-PACK CHALLENGE

Trish Stratus def. Ivory, Jacqueline, Jazz, Lita & Mighty Molly

Since the WWF Women’s Championship was vacated a few months ago by Chyna, there has been no title for the women during the Invasion. However, at Survivor Series, six women – three from the WWF, three from the Alliance – would do battle in a 6-Pack Challenge to determine a new Women’s Champion. In a surprise, Jazz, a former ECW superstar, headed out and seemed to be a serious contender. However, there was a shock on the cards as the least experienced woman in the match, Trish Stratus, would hit Stratusfaction on Ivory and pick up the 3 count to become the new Women’s Champion in whichever company continues after the main event.

    5-ON-5 ELIMINATION MATCH
TEAM WWF [Big Show, Chris Jericho, Kane, The Rock & The Undertaker] def.
TEAM ALLIANCE [Booker T, Kurt Angle, Rob Van Dam, Shane McMahon & Stone Cold Steve Austin]

With everything on the line, it was down to one match – Team WWF vs. Team Alliance, Vince McMahon’s five chosen men vs. Shane McMahon and his four chosen partners. With Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley also ringside, the match kicked off in chaotic style and the first elimination would be the WWF’s Big Show as he ate finishing moves from several of the Alliance team. Finished with a flying elbow from Shane-O-Mac, the WCW Owner was delighted but celebrated too much and was hit with a few finishers himself; Jericho the one to eliminate Shane in the end. The next two eliminations would be huge surprises as the Alliance managed to swing the odds seriously in their favour by taking out not just Kane but his brother, The Undertaker, as well. This left Chris Jericho and The Rock, two men who have not got on well in recent weeks, to face the four remaining Alliance members and things looked bleak for the WWF. Even when they somehow eliminated Booker T and RVD, they still had Angle and Austin to defeat which would need serious teamwork – could they do it? Next up for elimination would be Jericho as Austin rolled him up; this led to some serious frustration for Y2J. In a shocking moment, Jericho would turn on The Rock and deliver the Breakdown. Fortunately, Rock managed to kick out but Jericho came mighty close to screwing it all up for the WWF and it needed Undertaker to come out and prevent him causing further damage to Rock. Jericho’s ego had caused serious issues to the WWF and The Rock. Despite this, Rock forced Angle to tap out to the Sharpshooter – suspiciously, quite a quick tap out from Kurt – and it came down, as many predicted, to Austin vs. The Rock. As chaos erupted once more between Shane and his father, Angle would play a major part in the finish as he would turn against the Alliance and smash Austin in the head with the WWF Championship. Rock would follow up with the Rock Bottom and seal victory, against the odds, for the WWF! The PPV would end with despair for Shane, Stephanie and Heyman and elation for Vince McMahon as he celebrated on the stage area.

BUT NOW WHAT FOR THE WORLD WRESTLING FEDERATION?

HOW WOULD THE WWF MOVE ON FROM THE INVASION AND THE ALLIANCE?

    ----

THE ALLIANCE IS DEAD! LONG LIVE THE WWF!
After last night’s Survivor Series main event, The Rock – with an assist from Kurt Angle – defeated Stone Cold Steve Austin to eliminate the Alliance and ensure the survival of Vince McMahon’s WWF. Moving forwards, there are many questions to be answered and tonight’s RAW looks set to be a very interesting one as Vince McMahon provides some of these answers. However, it seems that last night’s main event brought some interesting decisions out in the WWF and Alliance superstars – particularly Kurt Angle and Chris Jericho. With Vince McMahon promising all along that a member of the Alliance would “jump over” to the WWF, it appears that Kurt Angle’s time in the Alliance was a ruse planted by McMahon to screw over Shane and Stephanie in the final reckoning. Whilst Angle’s allegiance to the WWF is now clear, that cannot be said of Chris Jericho. Although Jericho’s treatment in the past when with WCW appears to rule out the idea that he was siding with the Alliance last night, Jericho’s ego certainly almost cost the WWF when he attacked The Rock following his own elimination. Had it not been for the Undertaker’s timely intervention, would Jericho’s ego have led to a defeat for The Rock and ultimately the WWF?

WHAT NEXT FOR STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN?
With the finger of suspicion, wrongly as it turned out, pointed at Stone Cold Steve Austin in the build up to the Survivor Series main event, his status as the WWF Champion meant that he was protected all along – he will be a part of tonight’s roster as RAW kicks off. However, the future role of Stone Cold in the WWF seems to be less clear: will Vince McMahon decide to punish Austin for turning his back on the WWF and trying to kill it? Many whispers suggest that could well happen and that Vince is planning to strip Austin of the WWF Championship and fire him tonight in Charlotte, North Carolina? It is certain that Vince McMahon and Steve Austin have huge issues – they always have – but will those issues come to a head, after all these years, tonight on RAW? And how will this impact on The Rock and his WCW World Championship? Many would suggest, should Austin be fired, that there is only one option for the WWF Championship and that is The Rock – but will Vince McMahon see it that way?

WHICH ALLIANCE MEMBERS WILL SURVIVE IN THE WWF?
Just as Austin is protected – for now – there are several other Alliance members who will be a part of the WWF roster heading into tonight’s RAW – WWF Tag Team Champions, the Dudley Boyz, WWF Hardcore Champion Rob Van Dam, WWF European Champion Christian and Test who secured immunity from being fired after winning last night’s Battle Royal. Although, with the exception of Test, Vince McMahon could well opt to strip them of the titles and fire them as is whispered with Austin, there is no doubt that all of these men would be valuable assets to the WWF’s roster. Indeed, it seems that Vince McMahon recognises that there is talent in the Alliance ranks as he has invited ten other members of the Alliance to attend RAW tonight to find out their fate. Is McMahon looking to embarrass these men for fighting on the losing team or does he plan on retaining their services as members of the WWF roster moving forward?

    NEXT UP: ARMAGEDDON!
In a change to the advertised PPV name, the next PPV offering from the WWF, scheduled for three weeks’ time, will be WWF Armageddon. Whilst no matches have yet to be announced, it seems clear that there will be some kind of match to clear up the situations involving the WWF Championship and the WCW World Championship – maybe a unification match – as well as the usual title showdowns as the WWF returns to normal following the Invasion. With WrestleMania just three months away following Armageddon, eyes will be turning towards the opportunity to main event and the Royal Rumble which kicks off 2002. Who can begin to build momentum as we head for the end of 2001?

Oooooh. I must say, the post-InVasion era of WWE is an intriguing one, so you've got my attention, GCB. Obviously your reputation precedes you, so this should be great. Good luck!

    Good luck mate.

Looking forward to seeing whether Flair turns up and what happens with Triple H's return. I assume with his injury you have the perfect opportunity to write out Benoit whilst the future of the WCW stars yet to appear will be intriguing to say the least, brother!!!

Correct, Benoit will just simply be forgotten. It's an interesting time to say the least. Lots of potential.

    PREDICTION CONTEST

As many of you will already know, I like to incorporate a prediction contest into my BTB and run it over a series of events. I’m going to start this BTB with a prediction contest – different, I know – by giving you ten names of Alliance (ECW/WCW) wrestlers who will be on RAW to have their future determined. All you have to do is predict their status for the end of the first show: will they be secure as WWF roster members, fired from the WWF or will their status remain undecided? You will get one point for each wrestler you correctly identify the status of come the end of RAW. Good luck.
