Well given that Arsenal are never ready for season kickoff, this could be ugly. Very very ugly.

Will no doubt still be played at a friendly pace...with both sides going 343 they could easily cancel eachother out...so a winner will be decided by ABBA.
I have a plan so cunning......

Arsenal have actually do well in their past 2 Community shields. But the win over Chelsea 2 years ago was the season where the Chelsea players refused to play for Mourinho, so that one is a bit anomalous as a whole. But over the past 5-8 seasons, Arsenal have consistently started off the league season underperforming, including last year's loss to Liverpool that included Wenger's perfect excuse of "we weren't ready".

So I put more on the 20 year manager not being able to have his side ready for competitive matches as a trend than the last couple of Community Shield results.

You'd fancy Chelsea for this one, but as it's still pretty much a friendly I wouldn't be surprised to see Arsenal win.

I see both teams cancelling each other out and it going to penalties.

What exactly is the ABBA penalty thing though?

you switch the order of the team taking the penalty per round of penalties.

so it goes Arsenal, Chelsea, Chelsea, Arsenal, Arsenal, Chelsea, Chelsea, Arsenal and so on.

Looking forward to this one. Very happy that the new season is about to start but Arsenal are not ready yet. I'm pleased with the two signings we've made but we need more. Chelsea have made good signings and recently they beat us 3-0 last month in a pre-season friendly. Winning this would be nice but I think Chelsea will win.

Arsenal beat Chelsea 4-1 on penalties to win the Community Shield under the new ABBA format. Kolasinac scored on his debut. Good win, good start to the season. Looking forward to the start of the new PL season on Friday.

    First half: Arsenal
    Second Half: Chelsea

The match deserved a 1-1 but that ABBA penalty system was not good, too much pressure on the second taker if the first one missed. And it took all the drama out of it. Nice Idea in theory but no for it being permanent.

Good start to the season to both team, especially arsenal who will have lots of confidence for their match against Leicester

Happy to be wrong. Perhaps we can avoid our slow start to the league season. Hah, just kidding.

Caught the penalties, a change for the sake of it IMO.

    Not a fan.

Haven't seen too many Gooners playing it up as a meaningful win in regard to the how the season will unfold. Personally, I'm mostly content in that its a good way to bed in some of the new players. No that there is a whole host of them or anything.

Yeah but there is DT from arsenal fan tv calling it a trophy. There is always one eh

This game is nothing more the a morale boost for the start of the season as far as i'm concerned. Good performance but you can clearly see arsenal inability to put teams away despite dominating which is what they did in the first half.

Well it is a trophy because it is technically a competitive competition. It might be the least important competitive trophy an English club can win, but it is still one. Its below the EFL Cup but not that far lol. I do seem to recall a number of United fans proclaiming a treble last year because of the Community Shield win

I don't really put all that much into the CC, but I can't blame fans for being happy.. Nor do i begrudge the players celebrating. I liked that Arsenal players had rather muted reactions to the two friendly "trophies" won this summer... unlike Liverpool lol.

What I meant is that I haven't seen anyone trying to use this as some indicator of what the season will be, positive or negative. I'm sure there are Gooners doing that, but most I've seen have been "Hey cool, we won something" rather than "OMG WE BE WINNING THE LEAGUE AFTER THIS!!!" Then again, I do tend to follow fairly grounded, reasonable Arsenal supporters and clearly not all of us are.
