The baffling ridiculousness of not getting a clean sheet if your player plays over 60 minutes without conceding, gets subbed, and then his team concede.

It effectively means that you’re saying players can be accountable for things that happen when they aren’t on the pitch, it’s ridiculous.

Wait I thought they did get a clean sheet? I've got Christensen as well and I need the clean sheet

His team didn't get a clean sheet though. Never cared for the way FPL does that, you shouldn't get hypothetical clean sheet points.

I got nothing for Ward playing only 30 minutes because of injury and his team getting a clean sheet. Everyone in the Prem knows the rule.

Because its 30 minutes and the rule for getting a clean sheet is 60-something minutes. You know full well that it isn’t the same.

Ed, in that case why should you get a clean sheet if you’re subbed at all, because you have to make a hypothetical assumption that they would’ve kept a clean sheet if the player had stayed on.

Everyone has benefitted from the rule one time or another. It’s only brought up when the opposite happens.

I mean that's a fair point, there's still a hypothetical assumption at play, but I think in that scenario it's more understandable to award a clean sheet bonus point if Chelsea keep a clean sheet even after your player goes off because the clean sheet actually happened, it's factual and when the other 3-4 defenders played benefit from those bonus points, then the subbed player should get his share too.

However, when the clean sheet doesn't exist it just seems crazy to me to say ok the subbed player gets +3 and everyone else gets 0 because they couldn't see the game out. A game is 90 minutes and you cannot get a clean sheet until the final whistle is blown.

If you were the chairman of a football club and you had it written into the contract of your star player that they get a £500k bonus if they win the FA Cup final, and he gets subbed off when they're winning the final at Wembley, but they go on to bottle it and lose on penalties, you wouldn't go 'well I better pay out that £500k because hypothetically Graham Carey won the FA Cup'. It's madness. You're rewarding someone for something that didn't happen.

Players do get clean sheet bonuses in that scenario though

That is not a reason to not change the rule.

So a team losing 1-0 before a defender comes on before 30 minutes, yet doesn't concede another goal that game, means the defender should get a clean sheet point too??

The rule is clearly defined and has been for a while 'a defender that has played 60 minutes of a match where there team keeps a clean sheet'. Also there is no option in the scoring categories to change to what you are asking for. It just isn't in the system.

And for me there are bigger problems in the game with the 'Is he a midfielder/forward?' situation seeing players like Eden Hazard, Sadio Mane, Son and Leroy Sane labelled as midfielders whilst Mohamed Salah, Raheem Sterling, Wayne Rooney and Richarlison are not.

Yes absolutely, why shouldn’t they? It’s the only rule in the game where a player can gain/lose points without being on the pitch. Clean sheet should be a player who is on the pitch for over 60 minutes and doesn’t concede a goal.

We are being conditioned by our conventional perception of what a clean sheet is because we normally tie it to a team as opposed to a player.

Analogies are largely irrelevant but yes if, for example, Chelsea are 0-1 down after 10 mins and they bring Baba Rahman on and it ends 0-1, he should get a clean sheet. Because he had no power over whether he came in at 0-1 or 0-0, and this shouldn’t be rewarded or punished based on what preceded him entering the game.

Tough luck man. Not your year this year with Sanchez dropping his level of consistency, Ramsey getting injured when you traded him and now Coutinho upping sticks.

Forgot to set my team and leaves 17 points on the bench and kept Karius in the sticks

Hopefully I lose by more than 17 points so that it doesn't be a big mistake.

In other news if Sanchez joins United and Mkhitaryan goes the other way it will be like having two new signings.
