I said I was daft, not trolling.

Ftr, I don't agree with the criticism of Luke Cage being too "BLACKITY BLACK BLACK" and if it was, I can't even see it as a valid criticism other than "it's not for me". Never gonna be mad that a show is unapologetic about an underrepped culture. Maybe there is a line between too overt about it and and over enough but I don't see Luke Cage crossing it. Of course, that goes with the idea that obviously I'm black. But if there was something that was unapologetically feminist, or chinese, or what have you, unless it veered into Black Superiority or Femi-nazi territory then I don't see how it'd be too overt. Luke Cage had flaws but far from it being too black. For me it was pretty much the fact that this was the 3rd marvel Netflix series and was quite predictable in the exact same story beats it took down to the episode which meant that not only did it kill a bit of the surprises (I feel like Cottonmouth's situation was to a degree expected) but also transferred over all the pacing issues the other shows had and due to the duller second story, double how present it felt. The second biggest problem for me was that the back half wasn't as good and the story with Diamondback simply wasn't as interesting as the conflict between Cottonmouth/Cage/Mariah and I don't think many people cared or sympathized with Diamondback's daddy issues. He was also pretty hammy compared to the tone the Netflix series had set up to that point. And that last fight wasn't so good. The first half was top notch and up there with Daredevil and JJ though.

Yeah Jon agreed about Diamondback. He just wasn't a compelling villain and Cottonmouth was way better.

Well, it's absolutely an "it's not for me" scenario because some people don't care for subtlety and others do. Beyond that, it seemed like the characters had to constantly remind each other that they were black, as though they knew there were non-black people watching who this had to be explained to. It didn't feel organic. And that's just my take, so if you felt differently that's great. I'm fine with an underrepped culture getting its time in the sun. What I am not excited to see is an underrepped culture that has to constantly reassure the audience of what it is instead of simply being.

It's actually only for shows that debuted in 2016 but even if it wasn't Westworld is better than every single one of those shows you listed.

It's shows that started in 2016 not shows that were on in 2016

Alright, lists are in and votes are tallied so let's get this show on the road...

    12T. Dara O Briain’s Go 8 Bit - 10 Points (The Gipper #5)

    12T. Eden - 10 Points (Postman Dave #5)

12T. Jon Glaser Loves Gear - 10 Points (Darling Nicky #5)

    12T. Timeless - 10 Points (Fuji Vice #5)

12T. The Young Pope - 10 Points (Creeping Death #5)

Timeless started off kind of poorly but by mid to end season it was easily one of my favourite shows on television. I'm really glad it got picked up for another season even if I have to wait until 2019 for it.

Next up, another five shows will take us into the top ten.

Young Pope looked really ridiculous from the TV spots but I've heard good stuff about it.

Everything Jon Glaser does is so fucking hilarious. This might be TruTV's best show and they've been knocking it out of the park lately.

Re: WC's Fave Five Television Shows of 2016~!

lol, Guess I can't read, thought the deadline was 9PM instead of AM. Though honestly, it might be for the better I didn't vote, I went through the 2016 in American TV debuts thread awhile ago and I've seen literally nothing on there. Plenty of shows I want to watch on there (Angie Tribeca, Love, Westworld, Atlanta, Milo Murphy's Law being the most notable examples) but I tend not to check out a lot of TV over here until it's all available. All I would've been able to add is a bunch of anime, so I'll just say now that Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu is far and away my favorite show to come out in years. Had it not been for one semi-mishap in the final episode, it'd easily be my second favorite anime of all-time, instead it sits pretty at like, number five. Rakugo Shinjuu is a period piece character drama about a niche performance art in Japan. It's a masterclass in every category, for the nuanced characterization of all it's core cast including main character Yakumo/Bon/Kikuhiko who's near full life exploration turned him into one of the medium's most realized characters, to it's storytelling which cleverly intertwines the the past and the present (the story is multi-generational in that sense too), to the fantastic score that always perfectly compliments the scene, and the act direction which is always on point, especially during the Rakugo scenes (the performance art, which is essentially stroy-telling using old tales and imparting their own-selves in it [I've talked to a few people who didn't like these but liked the show, personally I love them, not only for how well directed they are but for how the stories the performers chose to tell often give us insight into the characters themselves]). It's a multifaceted character drama that you never really seen in anime, basically devoid of all the animeisms and targeted specifically to an adult audience in a mature way (i.e. sex when addressed is tackled in tactful way and there's no gore/and little cursing). Other than that, My Hero Academia debuted that year, and in 2017 it's proved to be one of the best battle shonen series ever. The Sports Festival arc includes my favorite episode of the year not from Rakugo (which finished it's run in 2017). I know what my other three would be, but those two stand-out the most to me. Either way, I'll be checking this list as it comes out.
