I don't know much about the Chinese Super League, but I assume there is a good chance that they just get replaced by a different team with money behind it.
100% Schalke still have talent. Given the "on paper" talent level of the squad, they should be nowhere near the position they are in. But that was probably true of Hamburg when they went down.

I know that Schalke were signing some "interesting" players. I recall a podcast I listen to talking about this awhile back, about how some Prem clubs with plenty of talent manage to get relegated and how it sometimes comes down to signing too many "talented but flawed" players. Players who often come from bigger clubs where they never became important because they are just a bit too inconsistent or disruptive or whatever that flaw is. Those kind of players can be important reclamation projects and become stars for a mid or lower top division club - Prem, Bundesliga, whatever. But too many of them creates a kind of instability. i wonder how much of that is what Schalke did over the past 4-5 years.

As for China... Yeah, the club will just be replaced. But part of the reason China has become a "big cog" in world football is the money that these corporate-owned clubs are willing to put in. There seems to be a slow erosion of that, as the big corporations slowly move away from wanting to throw hundreds of millions into these clubs.

Kinda. Hamburg also still had the quality (at least on paper) to avoid it, but it was a very slow, long process until it happened. They brushed it off, when there was that very first big BIG alarming sign and that's, in my opinion, what broke the neck in the end. Didn't help that they pretty much hadn't had a good hand at transfers for 15-16 years.

Bayern plays Dortmund right now. They are 60 minutes in and it is 2-2. Sounds even, but looking at the stats it shows that this isn't a balanced game. Dortmund led 2-0, thanks to Haland, after 10 minutes. Then only Bayern played, evened the score and are 6-2 shots on target, 8-1 off target and have around 65-35 possession the whole time. If they really want, they could rip apart every team in the Bundesliga, even with their relatively slim squad. There was a time a Dortmund team wouldn't have given away a 2-0 so easily.

And it finished 4-2 with two quick goals at the death by Goretzka and Lewa. The game winner definitely had suspicions of a foul in the build up, but Bayern were deserved winners. Dortmund without Sancho, Guerrero, and Witsel are very much an inferior side, even with Haaland. That he had to come off after an hour with a knock pretty much meant it was a matter of when Dortmund's wall collapsed.

Yea... but even with those three, it wouldn't have been much different. Maybe they could've held it out a bit longer, but the stats speak for themselves.

Maybe it's just because I'm tired of it, or because I'm a pessimistic person in general, but it's just a rubbish situation here. I'm not looking forward to six, seven, ten more years, where it's basically just about the CL places and not about the Title. ...and I have the feeling that the teams, who actually could be a threat to them, are actually kinda okay with the status quo.

yeah, that was inevitable. Even Dortmund at full strength probably capitulate there. Its just the way they work, at least against Bayern.

From the look of it, the Bundesliga is gonna be another decade of Bayern dominance. They will replace lewandowski with Haaland and somehow manage to not have to pay Dortmund fuck all for him.

    Re: General Football Discussion

Bad result last night. A 1-0 home win to take into the away leg was looking rather promising. But giving away that away goal could really come back to haunt us.

Worst player on the pitch? Harry Maguire. Good o'l slab head played a blinder last night. Missed an absolute sitter that my dead grandmother could have scored (I still don't understand how the hell he managed to miss when he was that close to the goal, some skill). The sooner that Ole realises that he's the problem the better. How many good performances does Eric Bailly need to put in before he becomes a 1st choice starter? I think most United fans acknowledge that Bailly is our best CB right now (I know there are injury concerns surrounding him which explains why we're being gentle in playing him sparringly) and that he should be starting alongside either Maguire or Lindelof. I would say that right now Lindelof is making a good case for being ahead of Maguire.

Far from the only bad player ont he pitch for us though, ur defense (right down to the goalkeeper) was poor and our midfield didn't play well either. Too much standing around by our central defensive players (Maguire, Matic, Fred) instead of getting stuck in.

This may seem harsh, but Dean Henderson was poor last night. That was probably the most high profile, high pressure game that Henderson has played in his career to date (You could argue that the City game on the weekend was high pressure, but I think the pressure was off somewhat given that City are so far ahead of us and that the League title is beyond us now) and he looked like the pressure got to him if I'm honest. He bottled it. You have to wonder whether we would ahve conceded if De Gea was in goal.
I'm probably in the minority in believing that Henderson shouldn't be our #1 but I'm sticking with that. He's a good goalkeeper, no doubt, and 5 clean sheets in 6 games isn't anything to turn your nose at. However, De Gea is still overall the better goalkeeper for me and he's still our best option as #1. I know Henderson isn't going to sit around forever and he's likely to demand being #1 next season. We can't sell De Gea as he still has 3 years left and he's on £350k per week. Nobody can afford that. Real MAdrid aren't interested in him any more. There's talk of PSG being interested, and they may be looking to replace Navas givent that he's in his mid-30's, but I just can't see him playing for them. We may be able to loan him (MAYBE) but I think the better option is to sell Henderson. We'll get a great price for him because he's a top keeper and he's English. Time to cash in I think. De Gea has plenty of years left in the tank and will get back to his best eventually so there's no rush to replace him.
That's just my opinion of course, and I'm also completely ok with us making Henderson #1 long term, but I just don't think he's got the patience to wait his turn any more and I don't see a scenario where De Gea will be content being #2, but then we can't sell him as I outlined above. It's a complex situation. It's a bit like the situation Chelsea had with Courtois to be honest. They kind of begrudgingly eventually gave in and promoted him to #1 and made Cech #2, then that pushed Cech out of the club, and Courtois himself moved on a matter of a couple of years later anyway and now look at their keeper situation!

After a tactical masterclass last weekend, I think Ole got his tactics wrong last night. He made all those defensive subs in one swathe at 74 minutes. It was too much too early. We've learnt before that this United team can't switch to a defensive lineup and protect a 1-0 lead. We've paid the price so many times before under Ole when he's tried and failed at getting us to see out a 1-0 win.

One positive to come form last night; Amad Diallo. Great goal and a great overall performance actually. Very mature. Hopefully he'll get more game time in the coming weeks to kick on. If he carries on playing like that then we can forget about signing Jadon Sancho. Who needs him when we have this young lad?

We've got to go to Milan and score goals now, simple as that. There will be no point sitting back and playing defensively, may as well go for it and attack from the get go. Hopefully we'll do that instead of playing defensive and trying to nick a goal here and there on the counter. Rashford is out and Martial went off with injury. Not ideal. But hopefully Cavani will be back and with Greenwood and Diallo perhaps flanking him then we have a chance.

    Re: General Football Discussion

    Sooooo.

Kemar Roofe decided to turn into Drew McIntyre for 5 seconds and fuckin claymore Slavias keeper fuckin hell. Again a Scottish club seemingly underestimates another countries big team and again gets punished for it, who'd have thought it? Happens all the time, when are they gonna learn that just cause the Danish or Czech league isnt covered doesn't mean their teams are any less good? Clowns

Aw and FUCK the cunt who racially abused Glen Kamara. Fuckin shockin the prick would say that in his ear as well, trying to hide it like we're that fuckin stupid. Rat.

Also insert spursy joke here, but I'm more happy at seeing Mourinho miserable rather than Spurs losing if I'm honest. They looked pathetic at extra time (was busy watching us look complacent and get let off with a 1-0 loss), but Zegreb's 3rd goal was spectacular. If I HAD to pick who I want next, probably either Dinamo or Roma tbh, I'm not exactly optimistic of our chances of winning, despite the fact we've put ourselves in another corner where silverware is our only chance of Europe, but hey, those are the breaks

We got Slavia. If we get knocked out by them I'm goin to be WAY more pissed off than any other team. Especially after this fuckin shit.

It won't happen, but if the old firm could shut the fuck up bout this guard of honour shit and unite to stand up against this vile racist bollocks, that'd be BANGIN.

    Re: General Football Discussion

This is shameful and disgusting. Of course, Glen Kamara and other players of colour have my solidarity with regards to the racist abuse. Kudela is no doubt guilty as sin. His defence is awful. Absolutely fuck Slavia and any form of racism. Also Kemar Roofe incident (accident) didnt help things.

However I have no solidarity with Rangers or their fans. Nazi salutes in Israel, singing about killing Irish Catholics, assocating themselves with KAI (Kill All Irish) gangs, an actual 60 year anti Catholic signing policy - they very nearly didnt sign Alex Ferguson because he married one. These are the same fans that sing about the Lisbon Lions not living long enough to see 10iar, same fans who during the BLM protests decided to guard statues and declare their support for All Lives Matter and dislike of BLM? Same fans who pished all over the statues last week and showing that they just care about showing their disgusting attitude rather than the statues? Same fans who disparaged the kneeling symbol but are now suddenly all about it? Near certain there were a few fans who had 'choice' words for Bolingoli at the start of the season and Zungu recently for the COVID breaches. These are the same fans with the "Nakamura ate my dog" banner? The video of the SIKH Rangers fans singing disgusting shit about Irish Catholics too? How poisonous is it when your brainwashed fans dont know what theyre singing about but knows it contains lyrics about killing Irish Catholics... And STILL do it?

Yeah, no thanks. I will never stand in solidarity with the Rangers supporters. Not to say all of them are like that but these arent things I want associated with. They only care about this issue because it happened to them. I would sooner vote Tory.

We arent giving them a guard of honour because they didnt give us one. Fuck this "bigger man" bullshit. They're allowed to celebrate the title win and have fun but I dont see why if the most successful club in Scotland over the last 10 years can't get a guard of honour from their rivals then we should give them one.

Not to mention the countless statements Rangers have made over the years whereby they blame anyone everyone for their failures. Literally accused the SPFL and SFA of corruption for giving the league title to Celtic on a PPG basis. Sad. Took away our allocation for games at Ibrox because we kept battering them there? Bitter. Conspiracy to relegate them to League 2 after THEY broke the rules and cheated for years? Lmao.

They want a guard of honour for winning a single trophy when Celtic had won a treble treble + 2 trophies that year (league and league cup)? Literally every domestic trophy going since Rangers came back, we had won. So they can get fucked. If we werent good enough for you then your shitty singular trophy means nothing to me.

Respect goes both ways. Rangers never showed us any. They don't deserve any. No guard of honour but ruining their unbeaten season im sure will make them forget about that.

Aye mate that's it. Fuck them both.

Really scary to see the video of Moussa Dembele collapsing whilst training with Atletico today. Glad he is doing okay. Really weird one.

    Re: General Football Discussion

racism incident yesterday in game between Valencia and Cadiz. Juan Cala allegedly used a racist slur against Mouctar Diakhaby. Seeing the footage, he looks guilty as fuck when Valencia walk off the pitch. Audio from the match seems to confirm a racist slur being used but not the player who said it. Cala and Diakhaby got yellow cards for unsportsmanlike conduct, Valencia resumed the game at Diakhaby's request but subbed him. Cadiz and Cala are denying the allegations. Valencia are also saying that the referee told them they would be sanctioned for not completing the match and tried to force them to play on before Diakhaby requested it.

Quite shocking this. Not a good look for Cadiz or La Liga.
