Ah, of course it was Jamie.

Lot of love for him for his time at Liverpool but Jesus Christ he is an awful pundit.

He's there for aesthetic reasons I'd say. He looks good on camera. But then again Sky just gave Sue Smith a more permanent role... and she, does not.

    Re: General Football Discussion

Weirdly disappointed with the win over Leicester yesterday. Going out of the League Cup seemed like a nice way to ease up on some fixture congestion. Two scrappy as fuck goals. And the non-call on Saka was kinda ridiculous. So many pens are awarded for the most minimal contact.... why do we basically have to get murdered in the box to get one? It obviously didn't have an impact in this match but it does in others. United can get more pens awarded in a single season than we can over several seasons combined and it makes zero sense.

You have us next and I wouldn't mind going out either. Would rather the lesser schedule and it's not even like theres a big occasion at Wembley at the end of the road because without fans it's nowhere near as good.

A decent run out for us tonight. 7 goals to get some confidence up especially in Minamino who got 2. I was hoping Jota would get one but his will come.

Curtis Jones though man. Kid is gonna be some player! He has plenty of time to develop but I would hope that he is going nowhere other than maybe a loan to get him solid playing time.

The only downside tonight was conceding two goals but a makeshift defence and back up keeper taken into account it's not all bad.

Juan Mata putting in a shift tonight.

Is that him making a case to be retained after the rumours he was being shipped out, or him putting himself in the shop window for all to see?

Continued fallout from the PSG-Marseille match.... Neymar has been accused of both racist and homophobic comments. He could be looking at a pretty big ban. Even if he was saying things about being abused first.... dude.... can't do that...

Also stories today that he owes a mere 35m in taxes that he avoided.

    Stand up lad, that Neymar.

    Re: General Football Discussion

So Serie is a fucking mess. I'm sure a lot of people saw that the Juventus-Napoli match yesterday didn't happen. Napoli didn't show up so the forfeited. 3 points to Juventus and a possible points deduction for Napoli.

What makes it a shitshow is that Napoli had 2 players test positive and state they attempted to travel but were refused by local health authorities at the airport. They asked to have the match delayed. The league and Juve said nope. Even though they knew well in advance that Napoli couldn't make it, Juve and the league made a show of pretending a match was still happening. The stance of the league is that provisions are in place when clubs have players who test positive and they should have still been able to travel. Napoli - who don't have a lot of reason to lie here, from what I can tell - were simple not allowed to, under the threat of prosecution by local authorities. So it looks purely punitive on Napoli to do this, which is especially harsh as they were one of the only sides who looked set to possibly challenge Juventus from landing their 4,715th straight Serie A title.

    Re: General Football Discussion

So United have announced their Champions League squad:

Goalkeepers: David De Gea, Dean Henderson, Lee Grant.

Defenders: Eric Bailly, Tim Fosu-Mensah, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Alex Telles, Axel Tuanzebe, Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Midfielders: Bruno Fernandes, Fred, Daniel James, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominay, Facundo Pellistri, Paul Pogba, Donny van de Beek.

Forwards: Edinson Cavani, Odion Ighalo, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford.

Pretty straight forward for the most part. Couple of interesting things though.

Couple of glaring omissions in Sergio Romero and Brandon Williams.

Romero should have been shipped out, at least on loan, so it's disappointing for him that he's still at the club no doubt. Doesn't do his international chances any good. I've said before what I think of the club's treatment of him. Nothing short of terrible IMO.

I think United were hoping Williams would go out on loan but nothing came of it. He's 3rd choice at LB now and 2nd choice at best at RB, though looks like h'es 3rd choice there too given that Ole has played TFM there this season and he's now been omitted from our Champions League squad. Not too sure what the future holds for him as he seemingly made a breakthrough and was rivaling Shaw as LB. He's had some suspect performances but I still think he has a lot of potential. We'll see what happens with him.

I'm pleasantly surprised at the inclusion of Facundo Pellistri. How much football will he play? He's likely only in there as cover on the wings but who knows. His inclusion in the squad is a welcome one for me and I'm genuinely hoping that Ole gives him a shot. He's highly rated and is an exciting player by all accounts so I'll be eagerly anticipating his performances if/when he plays.

To the surprise of nobody, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo aren't included. Bad times for their respective careers.

Greenwood, Williams and err Mengi I think are on the B list of under aged players that a "home grown" so can be added to any match day squad up to 24 hours before a match starts.

Ah yes of course. I assumed Greenwood would be there, I forget how young Williams still is sometimes.

    Re: General Football Discussion

What on earth was that performance from United last night? Did they forget that they had to or forgot how to defend or somehting? Both goals we gave away were trully shocking, the first one in particular is up there with the the worst defending I've seen at preofessional level in my lifetime.

We should have battered this team, even playing agains them away, and we've missed a great chance to get ourselves to 3 wins in 3 and put ourselves in a comfortable osition to qualify from the group. The next game when they cme back to us at Old Trafford is now a must win game and the pressure is on.

I don't even know what to expect on the weekend now against Everton.

Insane how much space they left Ba. Just a really weirdly inconsistent side.

It'll be nice for you boys to actually be the team playing against England in a major tournament rather than just cheering for whoever we have to play. In all seriousness as Shock knows, I was watching your game over England's game tonight because of the drama and big stakes and was happy for Clarke and Reidy to get you through. I always want the home nations to qualify.

Fans have been a big miss in football obviously, but I don't think they'll ever feel more missed than if we have to play England Vs Scotland in the Euros at Wembley in front of an empty stadium.

    Re: General Football Discussion 2017-18

Diego Maradona has passed away after a cardiac arresst.

Given how much strain his heart has been under throughout his life, from all the drugs and alcohol, it's no great surprise that this was his fate, sadly. At only 60 he's been taken from us far too young but at least we have the footage of him to remember him by. 2020 keeps on being the year that just keeps taking.
RIP to one of the greatest, and arguably THE greatest, footballer of all time.
