Balotelli got a lot of racist chants so he was about to walk out of the game. Verona & Brescia teammates had to convince him to stay on the field. I cant imagine why any black athlete would want to play in Italy (not that you wont get that in England or anything), but Im not victim blaming, the Serie A endorses racist behavior from fans by not doing anything about it. Happens at around 2:10. I know Balo's a bit of a drama queen but cant blame him for this one.

    Italy is racist.

I'm sorry, but I see no other conclusion when so many incidents happen with pretty much zero interest from the authorities in taking action. Those at the clubs doing the abusing are more intent on denying that its happened than anything else. And the Italian federation is a joke with their decisions.

Called Bayern firing Kovac. That was predictable.

Bayern probably has Juup Heynckes behind some glass that says "In Case Of Emergency, Break Glass"

Sort of like Chelsea and Gus Hiddink.

I do think it'll be Jose, would be just the job to get back in the swing of things and rebuild his reputation to the top again.

According to some Bayern fans, they think'll appoint a short term manger until the summer before making any decisions long term.

I expect it will be Heynckes as well... although he did say the last time that he would never come out retirement again.

Had the utmost pleasure of being at the Gladbach/Lever game. Both sets of fans incredible and the football really good. Going to make a big effort to follow the Bundesliga more going forward.

    Re: General Football Discussion 2017-18

I don't really care for what they'll do... but I'm already pissed about what will happen. The rest of the season EVERYONE on the whole german (Football-related) media will talk basically only about who'll become trainer at Munich next summer. It was already insane this year with the Sane-Transfer, where every single commentator pulled that topic out of their ass, even when the ongoing game, that was shown, had nothing to do with Bayern.

It's so damn frustrating to see that you can't watch 30-60 minutes of football-related shows/news here, without getting Bayern shoved in your face and down your throat.

My tip, if you want to follow the german Football-scene more intensive, try to dig down deeper than just the top of the Bundesliga. Maybe even venture into the 2nd and 3rd league. They are often much more worth your attention...

According to the Bild (basically our "Sun"), the names on a "list" at Bayern for the job are Allegri, Wenger, ten Hag and Rangnick.

    Re: General Football Discussion 2017-18

That list is now down to Wenger. Which would be.... weird for me.

I do want to see him take up managing again and it would be cool to see him a big club. But... it would just vibe weird.

I know what you mean about singular focus, Bear. it happens over here two. During hockey season, the national sports network tend to give inordinate coverage to the Toronto Maple Leafs and about the same amount of time total to the rest of the Canadian NHL teams. I've seen people complain about ESPN doing similar and didn't realize how bad it was until I watched Sportscenter on a trip to Vegas and literally half of the show was dedicated to the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox in a pennant race. Maybe that's not the norm or doesn't happen anymore, but it was ridiculous singular focus on those two teams.

No, they have a caretaker / interim. I think he would be a permanent appointment. Possibly with the idea he manages for a couple of years and moves into a DoF position. Oliver Kahn is coming in the summer and could be making some big changes.

Wenger is out at Bayern. In a complete dickish and completely childish-like (and for them normal) behavior the Bayern-Suits told the Press that Wenger phoned to them to offer himself and that they refused. I already have enough of this topic and it'll go on 'til Summer 2020... ugh...

Typical classy Bayern move - "Oh, we didn't even WANT him..."

Listen to a few podcastst that cover the Bundesliga in some depth and it sure sounds like there is some serious player power involved at the club at this point. The likes of Mueller and Neuer stirring shit up. The one podcast described it as "Guardiola hangover". Ancelloti was disliked internally because he didn't train them hard enough. Kovac was disliked internally because the tactics weren't good enough. Basically, this is a group of prima donna player who are never happy. And the club management replicates that. I'll never stop laughing at the press conference they called last year and either Rummenigge or Hoeness told media that they could never criticize a Bayern player again... and then he criticized a Bayern player.

I get that impression too. Too much player power for the older generation of Bayern players. I wonder how much of Kovac trying to bring more young players was a factor in some players not liking him, as well as the tactics not being "up to standard". One Bundesliga podcast basically implied that they were just looking for a reason to sack Kovac because he wasn't glamorous enough of a manger which fits with what you're saying.

As for Wenger. Tricky situation because Bayern are likely to go for Ten Hag in the summer but they obviously can't get him now, so they want Wenger for a short term fix but he wants a full time job. Tough.

    Re: General Football Discussion 2017-18

The weird thing is that Kovac never was a great hire or a fitting choice. But by then deciding that from day one, that probably impacted their performance for him. And Ancelotti probably didn't have adequate training methods, based on some things I've heard. So the player may not be wrong in that sense. But deciding that the manager should be gone and approaching things in such a manner are... really problematic.

Kinda happy its not Wenger. It could have been cool to see him managing again, and at a big club. But I would have been really conflicted.
