Don't worry, it'll be all "COME ONE ENGLAND" on the front pages in a few weeks. Gotta get that traffic yo.

What on earth does it matter to anyone what this guy chooses to legally tattoo on his body, especially when it has a deep meaning rooted in his father's killing. Yesterday he was meeting with disabled football supporters, but the media don't want to run that story, it's too dull, won't get enough clicks and doesn't suit their character assassination aim.
There's a great thread on Twitter that goes through shit that the British tabloids have said about Sterling. It's ridiculous.

This is a kid we should be celebrating. After having his dad killed, how many other kids would have grown into a life of crime and gang violence? Instead he's one of the best young footballers on the planet, and by all accounts a pretty chill guy. Glad to see that everyone (bar Piers Morgan) have condemned the Sun.

I love that Piers is trying to get on his moral high horse for this issue. Being the guy most famous for hacking the phones of dead kids and all.

The Sun is despicable and anyone that buys that rag is either ignorant or a complete piece of shit.

That second and fourth one are completely ridiculous. He did absolutely nothing wrong (he didn't with any others either). No surprise at the English media producing utter crap.

    Edit: It gets worse

Piers really should never take the high ground on anything, but in this case it's hilarious given his fandom over 'the gunners'.

Like Dave said, cannot believe number 16.

Completely agree with what has been said tbh. Diabolical coverage from all on Sterling throughout his career. What I will say is it is the older generation on the paper side of things who seem to love these stories. Yesterday for example in my office which is the Star and Express all the paper wanted was to do follow up. Online quickly agreed it was a non-story and moved on to other things.

Interesting to note how generational the media has become in recent years without most people probably even realising.

    Kenny Dalglish finally knighted.

Not only is he the greatest Scottish footballer ever, he's an even greater human being and I'm so happy to see him honoured.

Good to see Jermaine Defoe honoured as well.

I watched the Kenny film earlier in the year and even though he's a miserable git, everything he did surrounding hillsborough was magnificent and the sign of a special person.

Knighthoods do absolutely nothing for me, but I’m onboard with Sir Kenny. My mum’s side of the family are from Liverpool and they talk about “Kenny” like he’s an uncle I haven’t met yet or something. It’s hard to describe the affection in Liverpool for him after Hillsborough.

I'm fine with Kenny getting a knighthood as it's mainly down to his efforts outside of his sporting achievements that's getting him this recognition. Anybody that does anything to help with charities, disasters and tragedies deserve a hell of a lot of recognition for what they do.

    Re: General Football Discussion 2017-18

The Premier League fixtures have been announced. The season kicks off on Saturday 11 August.

Arsenal have a very difficult start to the season. Manchester City at home and Chelsea away for Unai Emery’s first two Arsenal Premier League games. Looking forward to it. Would rather have the tough games early, get them out of the way.

Here are the opening weekend fixtures:
    A.F.C. Bournemouth v Cardiff City
    Arsenal v Manchester City
    Fulham v Crystal Palace
    Huddersfield Town v Chelsea
    Liverpool v West Ham United
    Manchester United v Leicester City
    Newcastle United v Tottenham Hotspur
    Southampton v Burnley
    Watford v Brighton
    Wolverhampton v Everton

If you have followed the Milan situation much, this isn't a shocker. Its horrifying and could mean terrible things for the club, but the ownership group that took over were super sketchy during the purchase process.

I would expect so. The hedge fund is only going to care about profits. If they could make a quick sale, they probably would. But if they can asset strip by selling some players without impacting the club's likely sale price, they absolutely will. And that money won't go back into the club for replacements. This could be pretty bad for Italian football.

Well both Milan clubs have spent a fair bit in recent years haven't they? Though are Milan more in the boat of Villa?

Yeah, they have both spent quite a bit, but Inter seem to be staying more within their means and have had regular European football. Milan less so. After Li Yonghong bought them from Bersculoni, they invested massively. I think they would have spent the most in world football last year if not for PSG's spree. They spent on a similar level to Man City, but without the marketing machinations, European football or Premier League money to make the money back. It was pretty obvious that they were creating massive FFP problems for themselves and the "financial plan" they had for that spending basically required them to make a deep Champions League football run to approach being legit for FFP, and that suddenly creating massive commercial deals for new income streams. Ridiculous stuff, honestly.
