    Scenes!

I didn't know Gattuso was AC's manager now. Any excuse to post this again:

Gatusso was just brought in this week. Only a couple days behind, ed.

Think Benevanto just broke the record for worst start to a season in a big four league before this. A record that Manchester United held.

It's always great to see a keeper score, but when it's for their first ever point in the top division it's even better.

Darren Ferguson's post-match press conference. Absolutely amazing, and after having to deal with football league refs last season it's difficult to disagree. Standard of refereeing below the Premier League is remarkably bad.

Everytime I see or hear Darren Ferguson, I'm reminded of Steve Pemberton and the League of Gentlemen. His voice/accent sounds alot like Pemberton's for a few characters.

And he's totally right. But the standard of refereeing is pretty diabolical anywhere in Britain outside of the EPL, I feel. In saying that, the EPL has its fair share of absolute monstrosities too.

Premier League refs make bad decisions, but once you get outside of there you can see how horrendous it could be. In the Championship last season was a nightmare, Scottish League refs suck, Spanish league refs are even worse.

    Re: General Football Discussion 2017-18

Scottish refereeing is so bad and inconsistent that you have people thinking they're secretly a group of Orange Lodge members in support of Rangers (Celtic conspiracy), being paid off by Peter Lawwell (Rangers conspiracy) or everything goes in favour of the Old Firm (the diddy team conspiracy). I honestly haven't seen many decisions in Championship or Spain because I don't watch much but considering EPL is supposed to be the top tier and best refs, I can believe it.

How do you combat it though? There's just too much potential for human error.

    Shoot them

I don't like Darren but he's spot on about the standard of refs and how it's pointless complaining about anything because you just get a letter and an apology but bad decisions can cost managers their jobs and effect clubs getting promoted or relegated so what good is an apology then.

What stood out to me most was the accusation of them not being fit. That's unacceptable. You can understand bad calls in games because it's human error and you can have sympathy for them in seeing they need more help with video replays and such, but if you're paid to be a professional referee, your fitness is 100% in your control. You need to be fit enough to keep up with the match for 90 minutes.

Awful news that Cyrille Regis has passed away suddenly. He’s an all time Albion great, but more importantly a trailblazer for black footballers.

All the tributes from great players of the 90s say it all. He seemed to be my hero's hero. I'm sure West Brom are planning something special as a tribute to him.

Good performance from United tonight. Very good across the board and played some good football.

Pogba was on a different level today, he looked like the year eleven playing against the kids in the school playground at times. Absolute joy to watch. Just needs to bring a performance like that to a big game. Martial again showing his class and Valencia is a massive difference to us when he plays, rocket of a strike!

Great midtable Premier League teams in history. A great nostalgia trip about the teams nobody enjoyed playing against. The descriptions are fab too (Gera the midtable KDB, Charlie Adam the beer belly Xavi).

Arsene Wenger... second half of his career has been as an expert in upper level mediocrity.

Still better than mid table haha.

Plus we all loved the way Big Sam and Bolton would annoy the hell out of the "big" clubs...or was that just Arsenal.

Absolutely. Or battling relegation. I try to maintain that perspective. Doesn't always work, but I try.

I think it was mostly just Arsenal that he really got under the skin of on a consistent basis.
