Ground Zero Season One Feedback Thread

So when I thought of the show, I originally had Tyrone in mind to win. But then whenever I made the rosters, I actually wanted Sam Donovan to win the whole thing.

Throughout the entire show I was pretty much between Donovan, Johnson, Jack Harris, Dan Dulaney, and James Blake.

But a lot of you made really good points with Johnson, and I had those same thoughts. So I had to go with him to win it, and I think he'll work out well. There are storylines and character arcs I wanted to try with those other guys, but I think I can do those through different ways one way or another with Sullivan or Tyrone Johnson.

But anyway, I wanted to get some feedback from you guys. How you thought of the show, the winner, how it was done, etc.

My thoughts were, I wanted it to be more like a Tough Enough/NXT/Ultimate Fighter kind of show but at the same time I wanted it to be an actual reality show. Instead I think I resorted back to more like a development brand except with people getting eliminated week by week. Is there a way you think I could've done it differently that would have made it more unique?

I ask because I have a Season 2, and possibly Season 3 in mind for the future. Maybe next summer, maybe later. But it's definitely a possible future project down the road.

So if you have any feedback, please leave it here for me.

Also, and I know Alt came to me with this about a month ago but...

If any one would like to use any of the characters that didn't win then feel free. You can see the 20 man roster in the fan discussion thread I believe.

Thanks, yeah I'm feeling really good about Ty Johnson in the FWA. It's a completely kind of different character I'm working with compared to Sullivan and a brand new story to start.

What did you think about the way I organized the show and is there anything I should do differently for a future season?

For one I think I'm gonna scrap the coaches. They were a fin little gimmick but I barely incorporated them into the show, and I really didnt feel comfortable incorporating them because I don't normally write for those characters. Even though all four guys gave me permission (except Broc I think I just went ahead and used him) I just didn't want to write for a character that wasn't mine.

Personally I think we should of seen more out of ring stuff like reality base i think next you could do a special guest coach like they do on voice to mentor guys or even have a different one weekly showing them new stuff. I love to see everyone start off like normal people nothing known bout them and have them try and find gimmick. Like John Doe tries to be a crazy prophet couldnt find his footing so does something to repackage

Those are interesting ideas, I think I can definitely run with some of those. Fairly certain the next season is going to feature all female competitors.

Re: Ground Zero Season One Feedback Thread

Definitely show some more of the out-of-ring stuff like OMB suggested, and I'd say perhaps go with somewhat of a combination of The Ultimate Fighter style set-up & WWE Perfomance Center combination. In that I mean, with how the WWE runs their PC with Classes, Combines, etc, you could perhaps utilize something similar to show off how each of next season's participants and future seasons would handle "running the gauntlet" (sort of speak).

Cause I could see you definitely doing a future season similar to WWE's Tough Enough, but 10x better, without all of the "politics and bull*hit" that had plagued both seasons of the revived Tough Enough. Because if you were to go a similar route, DON'T [repeat DON'T] have the "Judges" not actually be involved with the Participant's training and whatnot like they did with the most recent Tough Enough. If you decide to have "Judges" eliminate the Participants, then at least have 1 of the Judges also be one of the Coaches.

    [I WIN]

Backstory: Chris and his twin brother (Drew) used to compete together as 'The Disco Warriors', a team through which they both showed off their natural athleticism and their main passion, other than wrestling - Disco. Their love for disco spawned from their father, legendary disco performer "Dazzling" Dave Peacock, and their act was a tribute to his career. I was going for this. I spoke to Sully privately about it, as I wasn’t sure whether I had to already have a character to do this. If I find myself having a bit more time over the summer then I’ll maybe sign up for FWA properly and just copy this across but just helping Sully out for the time being and thought it would be fun to put forward a funny character.

Thanks though, Sayer. I’ll hit you up if I do sign up and need some help (I probably will).

    Character name:
    Stu Grimes.

    Height: 7'5".

    Weight: 480lbs.

    Birthday/Age: 4th July, 1940 (age: 50 - was cryogenically frozen between the years 1978 and 2008).

    Hometown: Nashville, Tennessee.

Billed From: Straight out of the past.

    Alignment (Cheer or Boo): Cheer.

    Backstory:
Stu Grimes has done it all. He has had #1 hit records on the US Billboard Country Albums charts, had box office smash hit movies (mostly as hired muscle in 60s/70s gangster films), written four best selling novels and two memoirs, and is a former boxing heavyweight champion of the world (WBO, WBC, and IBF). He has climbed Mount Everest and swam the English Channel. In 1964, he flew around the world in 79 days, because fuck Jules Verne. He has made love to the most beautiful men and women in the world, completed DJ residencies in Ibiza, and was the owner and head cultivator on the world's largest hemp farm, twenty miles south of Den Haag.

However, Grimes' fortunes took a turn for the worse in 1975, when - after an impassioned sales pitch from a Japanese friend - he invested almost all of his wealth in Sony's Betamax cassette format. Within three years, he was almost broke, and only had enough money left to cryogenically freeze himself. Ashamed of his losses and his shortcomings, he climbed into his capsule for thirty years, hoping for a future where Betamax had persevered and defeated VHS. But, when he awoke, a brave new world - a world that he didn't understand - awaited him. Instead of millions of dollars waiting for him in his bank, he found only debts. He didn't even have enough cash left to invest in HDDVD, an exciting new laser-disk format that he felt sure would soon be found in every media shop worldwide...

After twelve years of scrubbing around, making a living in whatever way he can, Stu Grimes has decided to return to the top of the world once more. In the only profession that doesn't seem to have changed at all over the last forty years: professional wrestling.

Gimmick: Ageing old timer who wants one more shot at the big time.

Style of wrestling: Brawler, boxing background, slow and steady and with lots of heart.

    Move list:
Hooks and jabs and uppercuts for strikes - no kicks.
    Vertical suplex.
    Snap DDT.
    Gorilla press slam.
    Fallaway slam.
    HD-Death Valley Driver.
    Bearhug.
    Abdominal Stretch.
    Powerbomb.

    Finisher(s) Maximum of 3:
    Max-out (The Last Ride).
    Moonsault.

Base pic for your character: Andre the Giant.

Theme music: Layla (piano exit only) - Derek and the Dominos.
