Re: Murder on the Orient Express (2017)

So happy to see this Movie coming to Theaters. I remember reading Murder on the Orient Express as a kid, and being so interested in the read that said forget everything else I wanted to watch on TV, and do as a Kid I need to finish this. Still one of my favorite Books I've read, and I'm picky with my selections, but this one is a very good. I loved the trailer too, on how they show you who is who and this Cast is good as well. Hopefully this Movie makes some serious money, but it could have some problems with other Movies coming out around that same time.

Edit: Oh boy Justice League Film, Thor: Ragnarok in the same month!

It's not the first time, there's a famous version of this story that was released back in 1974. It's well worth watching if you're a fan.

I'm not sure why exactly but I have a sneaking suspicion that this movie is going to tank, or at least perform below the expectations of the studio. I really don't think big ensemble movies are huge draws anymore.

I thought it may do alright over here but then I saw it's coming out the same weekend as Paddington 2 so there's a good chance it's fucked.

Pretty good cast, icon name value from the books. Looks pretty interesting. Who knows if it does well.

Not to mention that, over here anyways, it's sandwiched between two big box office monsters in Thor 3 and Justice League. I'm not necessarily saying it's aiming for that target market but it does appear to be aiming to be a "big" movie and compared to those two it doesn't look that big at all.

I'm not sure they'll even get the over 30 market that don't care about comic book movies because Daddy's Home 2 opens the same day. Just seems like a really fucked up time to release a movie like this but I'll be happy if I'm wrong because I love Branagh.

Even though I'm never thrilled at the prospect of yet another remake of a classic I dig pretty much everyone in this to some extent so I'll be giving it a shot.

It won’t really succeed if I were to predict but I will probably give it a watch.

Boy does Josh Gad stick out like a sore thumb on a list of good-great actors.

    Total Lifetime Grosses
    Domestic: $28,681,472 32.8%
    + Foreign: $58,801,551 67.2%
    = Worldwide: $87,483,023
Not a bad start for this movie. I was one of the people thinking this would totally bomb. This movie cost 55 million to make.

Actually watching thru the '74 version lol. Been so long since I've seen this.

I definitely want to check out this version but doubt I will in theater.

Re: Murder on the Orient Express (2017)

I bumbled into watching this yesterday because my friend rang me and told me he had a day off and wanted to look at Daisy Ridley's face, so I tagged along (knowing full well he'd be bored and hate it) because I loved the book and the Poirot TV series as a kid. This is gorgeous to look at, well shot and there's an absolutely wonderful scene where Poirot is boarding the train that is an incredibly impressive one-shot but my friend fell asleep twice because he genuinely didn't care about the plot and nothing dragged him in and because Branagh couldn't seem to pick a tone and stick to it - it started out quirky and silly, threw in some slapstick comedy, did a little dance with romantic drama and then got super serious for a long ass time before it got whacky as shit for the climax. I enjoyed myself because I like the cast and the story but anyone that hasn't read the book could just end up bored and disappointed by what they get with this.
