Yeah theirs no way Shirai and Hojo don't leave Stardom for WWE if they ain't making close to what they were making with Stardom or a little bit more. Funny Shake brings up the merch because both make a killing like he said, but won't WWE try to get a piece of that action especially if both rock their Masks?

They'll love to sell those Masks especially babyface Kairi with the Pirate Princess gimmick to sell to kids especially I can see it now.

He definitely wasn't in any kind of any inner circle on this one, nor is he to be trusted in something like this, my guess is that he read some translated stuff from Weekly Pro Wrestling (A popular, but not reliable wrestling magazine in Japan) or Twitter translator X.
I'm aware that Dave isn't in the loop about every promotion in the world, but for the news 'Io signs with WWE' does he really need inner circle links with joshi people? I'm sure whatever contacts he has in NXT/recruitment would give him an indication whether WWE expect to sign her or not. It's not like Io Shirai's tryout is the only tryout he's ever reported on. I'm sure time will tell who's right on this one, Big Dave or the joshi experts.

I don't by that Hojo can't do the elbow drop story either; Eric Young did a elbow drop on last night's Takeover so I don't think it's a move they're protecting that much for Bayley.

I don't know what you're arguing in regards to Meltzer. He did a bad job because he was following along with other people's translations of what was going on, without giving proper credit fwiw, and it doesn't always turn out super smooth. Io is gonna sign, and her tryout went fine. He doesn't need to be super in tune with every company to just do simple things, especially when it's not that hard to find people who know better way before he says something. If I were head of WON I would hire some of those people as specialists to cover what I couldn't keep up with and then there'd never be a need to worry about situations playing out how they did with this in the future. But it's not like it's really a big deal overall, just in this case saying he did good isn't true.

Kairi not being able to do an Elbow Drop is secondary to the fact that she's older and doesn't stand out as much at face value as the shooter Asuka or the high flying Io. Her charisma and connection with the fans in Japan is a large part of what made her great and I don't think that will play quite as well here in addition that I'm skeptical they're going to push more than one non-English speaking woman at a time. (Though Io is more advanced, a full promo might be tough but I don't know) Do think she'll get to do the Elbow though ultimately.

He doesn't. Its the fact he was way off when talking about their leaving dates and talking about their thoughts behind the scenes. Io was supposed to be gone before Kairi according to him, for example. He mustve got info from his WWE source about Io coming in for Mania weekend, right? That was fake news. No info on Kairi's tryout either when she definitely had one? It's just difficult to take serious in retrospect when you know he was wrong on various things or missed certain info out that he, likely, would have included.

We know Io is signing because she's no longer head trainer at Stardom now. But that wasn't concrete info til a few days ago. It's not disputed anymore. Mayu's been groomed for the role for months. Stardom's been prepping for the loss of Kairi/Io behind the scenes for a long time. Surely he could've just picked up on that as a sign Io was definitely intent on signing? Idk.

Not sure on the elbow drop stuff. I think EY could've got away with it due to not being female. They might just not want two females with the elbow drop as a significant move. Kairi was asked about it at a signing/farewell event she did at a wrestling shop in Osaka but the event had a policy of no discussion of certain things Kairi said so we're no further along. It's implied that it's true though from what I recall. Kairi did say she wanted to wrestle Bayley, Sasha Banks and Asuka and implied she wanted to be on Raw. Also confirmed that Asuka's standing in WWE was a factor in her joining.

@Zero: I dunno if both will get pushed but I actually think Kairi stands more chance of getting over early on through character work. Io's very monotonous. Their English is way better than Asuka's though. They won't need to memorise their promos through simple English written on their hands. Kairi very good at listening too. Io has trouble but her confidence in speaking it will help her. Io will be the long term project over Kairi tbh.

I'm curious to see how they do. I hope WWE sign another random Joshi with zero hype that ends up blowing them away, it'd be pretty funny after this saga. 235 WWE women's champ 2018 confirmed.

Yeah I heard she was suppose to do via Press Conference I guess for Stardom. I would like to know with Subtitles what she said, and if she got emotional at all. Io Shirai I've barely see smile or never laugh, she's very stone face so I look forward to how WWE books her.

She pretty much just said that she suffered an injury in her match against Toni and that she was looking to take time off to get checked out and rehab herself. I think she said that at the end of her match with Mayu, she realised something was up and she needed to get her injury dealt with. She commented about dealing with the pressure of holding the belt and stuff and having to work through pain - don't wanna go into detail incase you don't want spoilers but I think it's fairly obvious what happened yesterday in her match. Said that she had to consider her health for the future. She commented on the WWE rumours and just said she wanted to come back to Stardom and that she needs to deal with her injury first to do so. and Ogawa said that the Mayu match wasn't her last in Stardom.

Yeah pics of the winner of the Main Event told me what happened yup. Yeah Io taking time off is a good thing, she's still very young and she knows when she does come to WWE she's going to be Wrestling loads more than her days in Stardom so why not get that body and mind right before coming. So I guess return matches with Mayu/Io when she comes back you think she'll back around September or October time or further than that?

Score it for the Joshi experts. Confirmed today that she hasn't signed and Io's return to Stardom is permanent.

That makes it five Joshis to one who have rejected WWE recently.

(im aware im spinning this and that WWE pulled the offer from her)

Who knows why WWE pulled the offer? They signed Hojo despite her concussion issues and they clearly have no issue with flooding their roster with Japanese talent. Sounds like bullshit to me tbh.

Well yeah if she was healthy, she'd be signed

My guess is they lost a lot of interest in her when she wouldn't be ready to take part in the Mae Young Classic. Only one Japanese wrestler in that tournament doesn't feel like what they were planning for originally. Take the MYC out of the equation and then do you really need Io for NXT TV when you've already got Sane plus everyone else signed to the PC, especially if there's some medical concerns there? Shame though, I was looking forward to seeing her face a fresh challenge in her career. Feels like Stardom could fall back into their status quo pretty easily.

Re: Io Shirai accepts offer to join WWE

The neck injury being the reason why they pulled the deal is speculation along with the idea that WWE didn't want to oversaturate with Japanese wrestlers. They told Io to heal her injury and then she could come on board. She did exactly that and yet they pulled the deal? Doesn't make sense to me. Nor does it make sense that they are hesitant to sign people with injury issues such as neck problems and concussions when they signed Hojo in the first place - they were sniffing around her when she suffered a concussion in the GP last year. I don't buy medical reasons as the issue when you take that into consideration. I dunno. I've been pretty steadfast in my belief that Io wasn't signing with WWE for months and this is too coincidental for me. Add to the fact that Dave has been saying the ball's in her court when clearly, that's not true if WWE were the ones to pull the deal.

They definitely wanted more Japanese girls in the MYC. They tried to get Hiroyo Matsumoto but she turned them down over pay plus likely used the offer as leverage in other promotions. Regal personally went to a SEAdLINNNG show to try and get Sareee and Arisa Nakajima on board and got rejected. Hikaru Shida was also another name they reportedly tried to get and similarly, pay was the problem.

I'm sorry for Io if it's true and she wanted to go to WWE and the opportunity slipped from her fingers. That sucks. But taking into consideration that she was likely going to get paid much less than what she earns in Stardom (she's their top star, she gets at least 90% of her merch profits and she also gets paid as head trainer) and has no guarantee of making it to main roster, it's just as likely that she could have turned them down. I heavily doubt that her announcing her injury and going for a 'break' was her officially leaving Stardom for WWE. Not with what she was saying in interviews.

I know Japanese promotions get a bad rep when it comes to wrestler health but if there's an exception, it is Stardom. They don't fuck around anymore after the Act-Yoshiko incident. They pulled Kairi from events after a concussion. They pulled Io from events after a back injury. They pulled Bito after a hand injury. They clearly do not force their employees to work hurt so I have to assume Io is perfectly fine right now.

I think it's definitely more along the lines that they've ballooned the roster up and don't need her.

Wow I take a nap for a few hours and see the news of Io not going to WWE now. I really wanted her to come there so what Joshi Wrestling is all about, but it will up to Kairi Hojo to do that on her own now. Yeah theirs something WWE isn't telling us come back healthy Io and were ready to show you off, and now she is healthy and you say nah we found a better Toy to play with? Not sure what better Toy or what they are thinking right now, but it's their loss to be honest. Io can work blindfolded and put on a great match the majority of the ladies on the main roster. Maybe after she kills in Stardom they knock on her Door, and this time she might not answer or wait to answer.
