Has to be wrestle Kingdom, amazing card all throughout except the huge tag match.

Wrestlemania had three matches which looked good and only two delivered and hey jerked the certain. so not Wrestlemania

WrestleMania will not be here for the 2nd straight year sadly. Can't say that any other WWE PPV so far has impressed me though. Will have to give a rewatch to the NXT TakeOver shows by the end of the year.

WrestleMania certainly wasn't here in this category last year.

I'm gonna have to go with Wrestle Kingdom 11 or Sakura Genesis so far.

    1. NXT Takeover Chicago - Not a bad match on the show and it was a super eventful show as well. DIY break up after a war, Brits steal the show, Roddy had a good match out of Eric fucking Young, the women continue to soar over the main roster. Just a terrific show. Top three Takeover as well.

    2. NJPW Dominion - pretty much all the rematches on this show were better than WrestleKingdom and there were a handful of impressive performances.

    3. Progress Super Strong Style Tournament Night 3 - one of the best stage three shows I've seen in my life. Fun fun fun from top to bottom. Another terrific defense from Dunne against a game Cobb and a hell of a final with Banks and Bate. A couple PROGRESS shows could be in contention here.

Not that this will gain supreme traction given the promotion but DDT Judgement 2017 (aka DDT's 20th Anniversary show) should be a legitimate candidate for this. I might just be biased because DDT's willingness to go uber exaggeration WWE mode appeals to stoned me big time. But thought every match on the show was pretty good - and the show was really enjoyable. The show has the right balance of ridiculous comedy and seriousness. plus Kota Ibushi, obviously.

Once again, I'm going to gas DDT up.

Their Peter Pan show was fucking amazing. I think DDT Universe offers a free month trial. Get it and watch it. DDT has been on fire this year.

Posted a tl;dr post about it (which you can pretend to read here), but PROGRESS' Chase The Sun will be on my ballot. Near perfect show from opening bell. Lots of great wrestling, big moments, and closure for big angles.

Re: 2017 Supercard Of The Year Ongoing Discussion

I look forward to checking the show out over the next few days.

Jim's review today reminds me that Night 2 of the UK tournament is right up there for this. Hard to imagine how that show could of been executed better. Takeover Brooklyn III as well was a hoot.

It's gonna be tough for me to include a NJPW show on this despite the year they've had; the way they structure things it makes it a tough award for them to win. It's supercard of the year; not best 2nd half to a show of the year and when there's been shows this year great from top to bottom I'm not gonna vote for a show where you can fast forward the first 2 hours and not miss anything. How often is there anything memorable or important before intermission on these things? I mean you could rearrange Summerslam to put all the dull matches up front and then load up the final 2 hours to be great and it would give the impression that the show was much better than it actually was.

Maybe that's smart booking on the part of NJPW.

Re: 2017 Supercard Of The Year Ongoing Discussion

In the same vein as my thoughts on worst supercard of the year, this is mainly a WWE heavy one.

    1) Takeover Brooklyn III - I expect Chicago to be most people's picks for best Takeover of the year, but idk man I did not enjoy that Bobby Roode title run and the women's multi match just blends in my mind with the all the other 3 and 4 ways this year. With Brooklyn III you have the best Takeover womens match of the year, Gargano Vs Almas I which was fantastic, aggressive dickhead Itami taking on Black in both men's best NXT match up to that point in time so three matches I would all rate at great. I think Sanity/AOP exceeded it's low expectations and Drew/Roode wasn't that bad in all honesty.

    2) UK Tournament Night 2 - I don't think they could of booked this show any better, it was perfection and was the start of a Pete Dunne : Best in the world talk with his matches against Andrews and Bate. Of course Dudley's own Tyler Bate making history is going to get a lot of love and support from me.

    3) NXT Takeover Chicago - ha, yeah so after shittin' on it earlier, Chicago gets a nom for me on the strength of DIY/AOP and Bate/Dunne.

If Survivor Series didn't have such a shit main event, it would of made my top 3 for sure. but fuck Triple H.

Dominion is a top shout. The entire show was really good. Three matches from this show are really good. Takahashi/ Kushida, Naito/Tana and even though it has its problems, Okada vs Omega.

3 matches out of 10 being really good doesn't really scream supercard of the year though does it? Even if I put myself in the shoes of someone that loves Omega/Okada II, I can't see how anyone would rate Elgin Vs Cody and Goto Vs Suzuki anything close to good.

Naito Vs Tanahashi and Takahashi Vs Kushida are fantastic matches though.

Re: 2017 Supercard Of The Year Ongoing Discussion

I wasn't done actually, I just got interrupted. Continuing on, I skipped Goto vs Suzuki after hearing about it. Cody vs Michael Elgin was fine from what I remember, the match was nothing special but it was fine midcard match. The Young Bucks vs RPG Vice was entertaining and the best Young Bucks match I've seen this year. They tone down most of their normal routine and it seems to make the matches so much better. And the Guerrillas of Destiny vs War Machine was pretty good as well, I thought they worked well together during the match. The show was very good up to that point, the last three matches turned the show from good to amazing. Nothing I saw was bad, the first two matches were missable and just there to put people on the card but it wasn't terrible. Maybe it was just me. The match quality throughout the night just grew and grew. Many don't like Omega vs Okada and I can easily understand why but I enjoyed it and the time limit didn't bother me at all. I enjoyed it better then many other shows this year. Dominion is in my top 3 Supercards of the year for sure. You can agree or disagree but this is just my opinion.
