    The X-Files Returns to FOX!

The X-Files returns to FOX later this year with ten new episodes

FOX has some exciting news today with the announcement that The X-Files returns to the network later this year! The all-new, 10-episode installment once again will be executive produced by X-Files creator Chris Carter, with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson returning as FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. The event series will air during the 2017-2018 season with production set to begin this summer. You can also check out new art for the show’s return in the gallery viewer below!

“Iconic characters, rich storytelling, bold creators – these are the hallmarks of great TV shows. And they are some of the reasons why ‘The X-Files’ has had such a profound impact on millions of fans worldwide,” said David Madden, President, Fox Broadcasting Company. “Chris’ creativity, along with the brilliant work of David and Gillian, continue to propel this pop culture phenomenon, and we can’t wait to see what fresh mysteries Mulder and Scully uncover in this next chapter of ‘The X-Files’.”

In 2016, The X-Files return drew an average Multi-Platform audience of nearly 16 million viewers and was last season’s No. 2 broadcast drama. It also was the season’s most talked-about event series on Twitter.

The X-Files originally premiered in September 1993. Over the course of its nine-season run, the influential series went from breakout sci-fi favorite to massive global hit, and became one of the most successful television dramas of all time. The show, which earned 16 Emmy Awards, five Golden Globes and a Peabody Award, follows FBI special agents Scully (Anderson) and Mulder (Duchovny) as they investigate unexplained cases – “X-Files” – for which the only answers involve paranormal phenomena.

Produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Ten Thirteen Productions, The X-Files is created and executive-produced by Chris Carter.
Very good news, love this show.

I just hope Chris Carter doesn't write too many episodes this time around, because the ones he wrote for the last season were pretty weak. At least I'll probably get one more Darin Morgan episode and I'll hold out hope that Vince Gilligan has some free time to write one as well.

Im not a huge fan of all of Vinces episodes. They need Spotnitz, Wong and Shiban back. Vinces best episodes were where he and the others helped write. His best episode he wrote alone was Folie a Deux, Roadrunner and Drive. I also really like Soft Light

He also wrote Small Patatoes and Bad Blood. Horrible episodes. I dont get the love they get. I dont mind a bit of comedy in my xfiles like some of the quirks in Syzygy or Detour.

Id take Shiban, Wong, Carter and Spotnitz over Gilligan.

Still haven't gotten around to watching the last season so a binge is long overdue

I'd be glad if Wong came back, the episode he did last season, Founder's Mutation, was probably the second best behind Darin Morgan's. Don't get me wrong, I don't love everything Vince Gilligan but I just think it'd be nice if he got back into the fold for at least one episode. I'd be fine if Shiban tagged along as well and they must still be in touch given they worked together on Breaking Bad.

I don't have an issue with Bad Blood or Small Potatoes because I appreciate the humour but they also aren't two that I'd go out of my way to watch again. I'm pretty sure I skipped both the last time I binge watched the show.

What bothers me about those two episodes is that they are on the top of many fans list of must see episodes. After those two episodes and the acclaim they get... is where xfiles started going downhill.

I need more episodes like E. Flask( im not spelling it out), EBE, PaperClip, Tungusta, Terma, Piper Maru, Apocrypha. Mythology episodes!!!! Don't get me wrong, some of the Monster of the Week episodes were good like Host, Folie a Deux or Die Hand.

I'd be all for that but the ones at the beginning and end of the last season were not very good. Well, the first one wasn't too bad because it was the first new X-Files in awhile but the season finale was a big ball of meh.

Re: The X-Files Returns to FOX!

I lost interest in last season really quickly. I watched one and a half episodes and I was done. I just didn't care.

Did it really do well enough to get picked up for more? I heard nothing but a rousing meh from everyone about it's return.

I've been considering re-visiting the old series again, so if I can keep my enthusiasm up during the final seasons there I might try diving into the newer stuff again, if only to get to look at Gillian Anderson for a few more hours.

Re: The X-Files Returns to FOX!

I think I'm the only one who doesn't want as many of the episodes from the middle of the last season. What made the last season so meh was it seemed like they were trying to tell a story but also wanted to cater to too many different things. So the main storyline of last season was just too rushed in the few episodes that were given to it, with such a short season it should have been all just one story to actually have time to tell it.

But either way I'm really stoked about this as it's my all time favorite show, and hopefully they'll still be filming in Vancouver again.
