I'm interested to see just how this plays out in Scotland. The independence topic has soured a lot of opinions on the SNP. I don't see Labour gaining back much, if anything. I just hope Scotland doesn't become a Tory country.

Yah Nicola is a broken record about independence isn't she? However I can't see it making too much a difference in honesty, SNP will probably still sweep the board just not in as emphatic fashion as last time out.

Pretty much what you'll see is Unionist Lib/Lab supporters flocking to vote Tory whilst you'll probably have socialist Greens/Lab vote SNP. It's pretty much a case of SNP vs Tory everywhere. Scotland will never be Tory. Likely, Labour won't return any MPs and they'll lose their seat. Tories will likely win back some seats down near the border. Hope that prick Mundell loses his seat though. Would be top notch. I think SNP might take the Lib Dems seat too. I'd say SNP is probably going to have around 52-54 seats with the Tories having the rest. SNP will probably have about 45-48% of the vote too. Watch Theresa May and Ruth Davidson of the Ruth Davidson Party try and spin it as the SNP support dropping and the Tory message winning through. Labour have destroyed themselves by siding so openly with the Tories. And the dumb thing is that their only MP is encouraging tactical voting for the Tories like an absolute moron. If Labour hadn't allied with the Tories then I think Jeremy Corbyn would have been well positioned to give the SNP a tanking up here. He would easily challenge them on certain policies because he's more left wing than them. Tories can't challenge SNP on certain things because Sturgeon will smoke them in return for what they are doing now.

She's the leader of a party that's main objective is Scottish Independence so it wouldn't be very good if she shut up about it tbh. She was elected on a manifesto that pledged to get another referendum so yeah. The souring of opinions is stemming from the SNP now starting to go about it as a way to get Scotland to stay in the EU. The problem is that not every single independence supporter voted to remain. The other people with soured opinions are unionists who were already pissed off to begin with and don't seem to understand what a mandate is. They'll use the argument that the prior referendum was supposed to be ''once in a generation'' vote but SNP always cited that a significant change in Scotland's circumstance would change that. Not to mention the utter failure of the 'no' side to live up to campaign promises (The Vow). Until the Unionists are able to get a seat majority at Holyrood and return more Scottish MPs to Westminster than pro-Independence parties then they'll just need to get used to hearing about it. The funny thing is that they're all focused on attacking Sturgeon and the SNP rather than putting any of their policies across. Basically, their whole shtick is 'vote for us so we stay together' whilst the SNP are very clearly focusing on more than just independence and are actively doing their best at Westminster to protect the country's interests as well as stand up for the people of Britain. I'd almost say that Unionist parties talk more about independence and how bad it is more than the SNP talk about wanting it. They're obsessed with the 'SNP bad rhetoric'.

100% SNP won't win as many seats as they did last time but it will be down to tactical voting rather than people actually shifting support to the Tories. The election will pretty much be the prelude to the inevitable Independence vote - it's all about unionism vs independence up here. What makes another independence referendum interesting here is that alot of the arguments that the Unionist side used in 2014 cannot be used again. They can't claim voting No will save Scotland's place in the EU... and infact, they now look like lying, scheming fucks for saying that in the first place. It is amazing that Labour, Lib Dems and the Tories all stood behind a No vote to keep Scotland in the EU... yet now the only party speaking up about staying in the EU is the SNP. Amazing.

Ultimately, election result won't matter. Scotland will have no bearing on the result (as usual) and we will continue to be treated like shit whilst Tories dismantle the NHS, punish the vulnerable, ask women to prove they got raped and laugh as they vote to bomb innocent people in whatever middle eastern country is next for America and Britain to meddle with.

From what i've seen since Brexit was voted for things were predicted much worse and that's a bonus, i'm going with the policy if isn't broke, don't fix it this time out.

Always followed the labour party and have voted for them in my short voting life but Jeremy Corbyn doesn't convince me in the slightest he is right for PM, a long way to go on the campaign trail sure but i'm pretty much made up on who i'm voting for come the election in June.

Hope that means you're voting Labour, Kert... especially since you should be voting for who you want to be your local MP and not who you want to be PM.

I think Labour might actually claw back some support with how some things are going for May. She's not been doing well at all recently. Brexit meeting with Juncker sounded horrific. She seems extremely deluded and hopeless.

Been looking up my local candidates, planned to vote against our current anyway as he's been MP for 12 years & we could do with a fresh face with a lot of exciting prospects in the area. Happy coincidence that he's Conservative.

Only got 4 other candidates so far, & one's UKIP so it's a three way battle for my affections at the mo.

My local election...I had three votes for 6 candidates....three labour, two conservative and one UKIP, that made my vote so easy.....

As for the GE....Corbyn and Labour are saying all the right things, it's just a shame it's not going to make any difference.

People keep saying things like this, but both Brexit & Trump were perceived as second favourites & got their respective victories. This attitude of "it won't matter" really needs to stop.

Opinion polls were close for both Brext and Trump though

I would love to be wrong, and I will use my vote, as I always do for that party that will do the best for my and my kids futures, which at the moment is Labour. I'd like to think if there's a high turn out of voters then Labour will get a hell of a lot closer than many will think.

I do agree that people who have the "My vote wont matter" mentality is hard to change, however if just a small portion of these that abstain from voting can make a difference too.

Last week's polls had Tory lead down quite a bit. I mean, perspective and all, it was still double digit leads. But not the 20+ points from when election was announced. Labour were back up around 30.

You never know. Corbyn is actually good at campaigning, whereas May has never really had to actually campaign before, and it shows.

Re: UK General Election 2017 Thread

    I'll be voting SNP.

    I hate UKIP and Tories.

only other parties I would consider voting are Lib Dem/Labour/Green.

for me personally UKIP will never be something I consider. I'm half Scottish half European by blood and feeling so ukip can GTF! Tories, ugh where do I begin? I'm working class and totally oppose most of their ideals. Lib Dem right now are a lost cause, there's potential but lot of confusion still on some issues. Labour? I like the noises they are making but it's still not enough to sway my vote.

i think this election wasn't to strengthen the Tory party but rather weaken the snp and labour. Labour will lose seats to lib dem and possibly Tory. Snp will lose seats to labour or lib dem. Lib dem could be the big winner here, but honestly U.K. Will return a Tory government and Scotland will have snp government majority. Nothing much will change other than seeing the tories claim they have a mandate for a hard brexit ugh.

Re: UK General Election 2017 Thread

After a little educating of my own local politics it's become clear that I need to vote Labour just to keep the Conservatives out. If the race were closer between those two and anyone else (except UKIP, obviously) then I might consider going elsewhere but we're a two party town for the most part and I'm not willing to chance it. If enough people are swayed in this area to move away from Labour in almost any other direction and the Tories keep their base, they get the win.

I'm in a Tory safe seat so my vote is practically worthless. Lib Dems came 4th in my constituent so hopefully they can push on this time.

Polls recently putting Labour much much closer to the Tories than before. Single digit lead for the Tories now. If Labour hadn't clowned about in the Indyref then I'd say they'd be in a position to actually win this thing.

Their manifesto is a disaster and Theresa May has been shown up to be completely terrible at speaking in public. She needs questions monitored and screened and requires soundbites

Labour's manifesto is good. It almost convinced me to vote for them. I think people might realise that having Corbyn negotiate Brexit is better than having May do it. Tories up here can't stop going on about independence when they campaign. Fought a council election based on that without discussing any policies at all. Literally do nothing but bleat on about unionism. I suppose it'll guarantee them votes.

Anyone check the debates out? Thought Sturgeon steamrolled everyone else. But... of course, I would.

Labour's manifesto is pie in the sky. I seriously doubt they can bring in everything they say they want in their manifesto. Feels like they can promise everything because they know how much ground they need to (or had to) make up on the tories. 4 more bank holidays? yes please.

Tories manifesto is grim. It's like they're telling you up front how much they're gonna fuck us over.
