Two best albums of the year for me are The Far Field by Future Islands and DAMN by Kendrick Lamar. Gone Now by Bleachers is a gem too.

Love DAMN. But Itd probably make the bottom half of top 10 rap albums this year (for me obviously). Also preferred his last two albums tho I never gave section a proper listen.

I wasn't blown away by The Far Fields and I'm starting to distance away from Future Islands.

That Manchester Orchestra album is still probably my number one, though I finally heard the new Grizzly Bear in full and I think it's terrific.

You really should give Section.80 your full attention when you can. I still prefer DAMN., TPAB, and GKMC over it due to Kendrick just getting better with each year, but it's still a top-notch project.

The new Cool Kids album is tight. I'm glad that they're back.

Fozzy's new album Judas came out yesterday. I don't know how everyone here feels about Fozzy but I quite like the album, a lot of quality tracks on it in my opinion.

The new Foo Fighters album Concrete and Gold is pretty solid too.

I'm honestly surprised that the Fozzy album just came out. I assumed it was already out with how much Jericho was pushing the Judas single, plus them starting their tours.

Lil Pump top ten project of the year and I don't mean that ironically.

Re: The Awesome Albums of 2017 Thread

There’s not a lot of hip hop I was really impressed with this year. I did enjoy Flower Boy and Migos’ Culture but they weren’t very high on my replay list this year. Was not impressed with 4:44 and think Damn might be Kendrick’s weakest attempt.

Revival wasn’t very good but I still think Arcade Fire had the worst outing by a major artist with Everything Now.

I don’t want to reveal too much just in case Jaime does his project (and I honestly don’t know if I have a top ten) but A Black Mile To The Surface is still probably my favorite album on the year. I also really enjoyed Bully’s “Losing”

Re: The Awesome Albums of 2017 Thread

I don't think Revival is bad, I like it but it's not my favorite Eminem album. That still belongs to The Eminem Show followed by MMLP and MMLP 2. It's not bad though in my opinion, I like it.

I know that earlier on in this thread a few months ago I said I liked DAMN, but after a few more re-listens I didn't like it as much. I still like it better than To Pimp A Butterfly, which is my least favorite of his and his weakest IMO, but my favorite of his albums is still Good Kid, M.A.A.D City.

I still really like Logic's Everybody album for this year, still so good after several re-listens.

Re: The Awesome Albums of 2017 Thread

I'm with Nicky, that Arcade Fire album was terrible and has completely turned me off of the band. I've never been that high on Eminem but Revival was trash as well and easily the worst thing he's ever done. Since we're at the end of 2017, here's my top ten...

    1. Do Make Say Think - Stubborn Persistent Illusions
    2. Jake Xerxes Fussell - What in the Natural World
    3. Grandaddy - Last Place
    4. Brand New - Science Fiction
    5. Manchester Orchestra - A Black Mile to the Surface
    6. Slowdive - Slowdive
    7. Idles - Brutalism
    8. Thundercat - Drunk
    9. The Weather Station - The Weather Station
    10. Bonnie "Prince" Billy - Best Troubador

With HM's going out to Nadia Reid - Preservation, Mount Eerie - A Crow Looked at Me, The Replacements - For Sale: Live at Maxwell's 1986, Alan Vega - It and Laura Marling - Semper Femina.

There was a lot of great music this year though and I could easily crank out a top 50 if I thought about it for a few minutes.

Re: The Awesome Albums of 2017 Thread

I took my eye off the ball re: music this year but I subbed up to Spotify premium a month ago and am working my way through rock/metal albums that are making 'best of 2017' lists online. Funnily enough Fuji, yesterday I listened to Manchester Orchestra - A Black Mile to the Surface and was really impressed.

My album of the year is One More Light by Linkin Park but that's heavily rooted in Chester's death giving the album a new perspective and depth to lyrics etc, as well as me not listening to a great deal of new music in 2017. Also I really enjoyed Mogwai's Every Country's Sun.

My two favorites from 2017 are The Storm by ZZ Ward and Zombies on Broadway by Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness. I just discovered Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness this year and am really into their style and they have some great music. ZZ Ward's new album is one I have been waiting a long time for. It's a great modern blues-rock album from a woman with a terrific voice. Honorable mention to Warmer in the Winter by Lindsey Stirling.

Nah, go for it if you want.

Reminds me that I should start a thread for 2018.

Re: The Awesome Albums of 2017 Thread

Looking through my iTunes library and I only bought two albums that came out last year. Those being Reputation by Taylor Swift and Songs of Experience by U2.

I didn't have high hopes for Reputation seeing as I'm not a fan of Taylor's pop direction, much prefer her country albums. The first single Look What You Made Me Do had decent verses and a cringey chorus. That being said, it had some pretty stand out songs. Getaway Car and This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things would be my favourite songs.

It took a couple of listens to like Songs Of Experience. I like how they took samples from Songs Of Innocence (my favourite U2 album) and used them on here as well. Hard to narrow it down to a favourite song or two when the whole album is great. If I had to though, they'd be Get Out Of Your Own Way and The Showman.
