UFC: Manuwa vs Anderson - DISCUSSION

Event: UFC Fight Night 107: “Manuwa vs. Anderson”
    Date: Sat., March 18, 2017
Location: O2 Arena in London, England
    Broadcast: UFC Fight Pass

UFC Fight Night 107 Fight Pass Main Event:
205 lbs.: Jimi Manuwa vs. Corey Anderson

UFC Fight Night 107 Fight Pass Main Card (5 p.m. ET):
170 lbs.: Alan Jouban vs. Gunnar Nelson
140 lbs.: Brad Pickett vs. Marlon Vera
145 lbs.: Arnold Allen vs. Makwan Amirkhani

UFC Fight Night 107 Fight Pass Prelims (1:30 p.m.):
155 lbs.: Joseph Duffy vs. Reza Madadi
205 lbs.: Francimar Barroso vs. Darren Stewart
265 lbs.: Timothy Johnson vs. Daniel Omielanczuk
155 lbs.: Marc Diakiese vs. Teemu Packalen
170 lbs.: Leon Edwards vs. Vicente Luque
185 lbs.: Scott Askham vs. Brad Scott
135 lbs.: Lina Lansberg vs. Lucie Pudilova

Brett Johns vs Ian Entwistle called off earlier today and Breese vs Bamgbose called off just prior to the start of the event. Still some fun fights. Lansberg going from headliner to a curtain jerker is pretty weird. Askham vs Scott should be good as well as Duffy's fight. Curious to see how Diakiese gets on. Main card is pretty cool though I feel like Manuwa's gonna spark Anderson quickly.

    Diakiese is unreal. Some KO.

It will be hard to beat that one for KO of the night. Diakiese is starting to get the hype train behind him.

Vera might have beaten it, that was a pretty sickening headkick.

Feel bad for Pickett but clearly it's time to go.

Some good stuff so far tonight... thought Lansberg and Scott were lucky to get their decision wins though.

Pretty excited for Jouban vs Gunnar

I am kind of expecting Corey Anderson to neutralize Manuwa's power and win this fight in the most tedious way possible.

Yeah, Lina Lansberg's face told a whole different story of that fight.

I wish Pickett could have went out with a win, but he could not have lost to a more respectful guy.

    Well... as predicted.

    Anderson got sparked.

Corey is pretty technical, so I figured he would grind and shut all that down, but he got caught. I am not too sad about it because his style bores me to tears.

I don't rate Corey at all. Just doesn't impress me and I don't know how he's ranked so high. Must be due to the shallowness of the division. I'd like to see Manuwa get a title shot now.

The thing to remember about the rankings is that they're a joke to begin with. They're decided upon by the votes of reporters and I don't think any of the good reporters bother. I don't even think the half-decent ones take part. And at the end of the day, the UFC are going to make the fights that make the most business sense anyway. If the rankings support their choice of fights, great. If not, they don't care. They didn't even want the ratings to begin with which is probably why they don't pay them much heed unless it's convenient.

Manuwa isn't getting a title shot and nor should he. He needs at least one win over someone with some kind of name value or a guy who is himself near a title fight. I think they should put him against Rua. Rua is on a three-fight win streak and whilst none of those wins are against anyone at the top level, they should at least mean that a win over Rua would itself mean something. In any event, I expect Jon Jones to face the winner of Cormier vs. Johnson and after that, whoever the champion is will likely face the winner of Gustafsson vs. Teixeira.
