Re: UFC 209: Woodley vs Wonderboy II - DISCUSSION

First 2 rounds were a draw on my cards, gave Woodley the 3rd just, or even call that a draw. Wonderboy the 4th, and Woodley the 5th in the only round of fighting. I'd go with a draw over a Woodley win, but if anyone had to win its Tyrone. Its better than another draw because that'd just mean they make another rematch.

Never match these two up ever again, the first fight was amazing, but it left them both shit scared of each other.

I cant think of a worse one. Even Andersons duds v Maia and Leites had some entertaining clowning.
In this fight both guys just wanted to be the counter striker, and both guys knew it, so they refused to engage because they knew the other guy was focused on the counter.

Solid card broken by a shit main. Can't believe woodley won. Just a bad fight all around. Says something that the emergency comain was the best fight on the card.

Like I get the chess match aspect of fighting and love it. But it was just some poor execution imo

Two judges gave the second round to Woodley.

    just...

    what

Also a judge scoring for Rashad tonight was insanity. Honestly, I don't understand what these people see. Woodley did not win any 3 rounds in that fight. You can say Wonderboy didn't either but that's irrelevant.

Those Psychic Vampires stealing Wonderboy's life force and giving it to Woodley at the last second bro.

Imagine if that fight was under the no time limit rules or the same rules as Saku/Royce? Fuck watching that for an hour and a half.

btw, Elkins vs Doo Ho Choi is the fight to make. The unkillable dude showdown.

Lends credence to the simulation theory that recent events are signs that the simulation has been hijacked or the parameters have been changed 😆

So now what. Maia chokes everyone and keeps the title forever or masvidal wins and fights Lawler

GSP beats Bisping then comes down for Woodley and beats him then we get McGregor vs GSP and the world implodes.

I think it should be a rematch tbh. Thompson should be champ. The division is shallow enough where it really doesn't hamper much. Masvidal vs Maia is happening if im not mistaken.

Would prefer Masvidal vs Wonderboy and Woodley vs Maia with Condit/Cowboy vs Lawler.

Why would anyone want another rematch? What did Wonderboy do to deserve a third Title fight in a row?

The fight was basically a draw. Like the action or not, it was way too close to say someome definitively won or not.

If Woodley had lost, would you disagree that he gets a rematch?

Neither guy really did a great deal enough to win the fight but that doesnt mean they did enough to lose either. The top contenders are busy and Woodley/Wonderbread are probably healthy enough to rerun this in 3 months time. Put them on a card with another title fight to sell it.

I'd love to see woodley/Condit in 2017 but there's too much in front of that. Been saying gsp took bisping because it's easier than woodley so curious to see if he would actually stay at 185.

    Shits weird

Kevin Randleman against Pedro Rizzo (UFC 26) and Tim Sylvia’s fights against Andrei Arlovksi (from UFC 61) and Jeff Monson (from UFC 63) remain the benchmarks for terrible UFC title fights.

I don’t particular want to watch Woodley or Thompson fight again, especially against each other, but given that the welterweight division has no real contenders outside of the winner of the Maia vs. Masvidal fight, there’s no sporting reason not to have Woodley and Thompson fight each other again right away. And the fight was close enough that if Woodley had lost, he would have been justified in wanting a rematch. The problem is that doing the third fight right away would be impossible to justify from a business standpoint. Even if the numbers for 209 are stunningly high, this second fight was bad enough that nobody wants to see them fight again. The only reason anybody does want to see them fight again is that there are no real alternatives on the table outside of Maia and Masvidal, and because they’re fighting in two months, you could do Woodley vs. Thompson III and have the two winners face each other before the end of the year, so the welterweight title won’t have to be put on ice, which makes Woodley and Thompson fighting yet again seem more appealing than it should be.

If Woodley vs. Thompson III does happen, whether it’s right away or not, it cannot be the main event. I wouldn’t put either fighter in the main event slot again until they’ve redeemed themselves with a fight that people have been excited by. I was more disappointed that Thompson didn’t knock Woodley out than the fight itself being terrible. I’m tired of Woodley bitching and moaning about absolutely everything and always crying racism whenever anyone says something remotely negative about him.

I just don't want to see these two face off again after that stinker. And while Tyron did nothing for 24 minutes, Wonderboy doesn't deserve another crack at the gold for doing nothing for 25 minutes.

Re: UFC 209: Woodley vs Wonderboy II - DISCUSSION

If Demian Maia beats Masvidal he certainly has earned the next title shot, but I could definitely see UFC pulling shenanigans and setting up a more popular fight with GSP or Conor down the road.

Robbie Lawer deserves another shot if he wins his next fight. I think Tyron would probably beat him, but I think the rematch would be much better than their initial encounter.

If Jorge Masvidal gets past Maia I think he should have to face somebody like Carlos Condit or Neil Magny before they even think about giving him a title shot.

I guess Lorenz Larkin is a free agent or something right now, but damn I wish he was still in the mix. The dudes performances are somewhat inconsistent, but after his destruction of Magny you cannot deny he has shades of genius. I think his style would present a true threat to many of the top 5 guys.

Maia just beat Condit in like 45 seconds. If masvidal beats him he shoots up the rankings and fights Lawler or Wonderboy.

Re: UFC 209: Woodley vs Wonderboy II - DISCUSSION

I know its popular opinion to think GSP took the Bisping fight because its easier but I cant help but feel like GSP saw more of a challenge at MW, even if just for the fact that he's going up a weight class. WW has really cooled off lately, and looking at things Wonderboy is just a less well rounded, less dangerous Condit. Woodley is a more timid Hendricks, Maia doesn't have many top 5 wins. While you look at MW and there's a lot more genuine world class, elite level fighters there. GSP has never backed down from a challenge and is a true martial artist who likes to test himself.

I firmly believe that there's zero chance gsp fights romero. If I'm wrong I'm wrong but he's the rightful contender. This was a money fight and it's an easier fight for him.
