    NFL 2017 Offseason Thread

    Let's start here: http://www.espn.com/espn/feature/sto...ding-spot-2017

Which team should Romo play for in 2017-2018?

(I still think it should be the Vikings — I said it should've been them last year — but I don't know how they would get him)

    Re: NFL 2017 Offseason Thread

I don't care where he winds up. I just want to point out how aesthetically pleasing that feature was to read. It wasn't one of those shitty ones where you have to click a new page every time a new team/topic is brought up AND it was a unique way to do the slideshow of the team's jersey. Bravo.

With that said, I think the most realistic thing is for him to stay in Dallas. They have a good thing going, so why mess it up. I know he'd be an expensive backup, but I think Jerry can make it work. If not, I think the best option on paper for him to succeed right now would be either the Broncos or Jets. Maybe even Buffalo. But he could go to Denver or New York for a year or two and fight for the playoffs and let Lynch/Petty learn from him for a year or two while still making starter money. Seems logical enough.

On a side note, I'd really like to get Yeez's reaction to that hypothetical Cousins to the Niners trade and Romo to DC.

Don't give me nightmares Peep. I don't want to see Romo no where near the NFC East he should go to the Broncos or Texans. Both have quality defenses with weapons on Offense to score points and Elway especially loves bringing in QB's in their old age when some people think they are done as a player. Peyton got them a Ring, well more so the Defense that year, but they are contenders every year he was there. Romo there could be the piece to get them back to the playoffs and contending again.

In Elway's 5-6 years as Vice President/GM here are his QB acquisitions

January 5, 2011 John Elway hired
    September 4, 2011 Adam Weber(23) signed
    March 24, 2012 Caleb Hanie(24) signed
    March 20, 2012 Peyton Manning(33) signed
    April 26, 2013 Zac Dysert(23) drafted
    April 27, 2013 Ryan Katz(22) signed
    May 10, 2014 Bryn Renner(23) signed
    November 25, 2015 Christian Ponder(26) signed
    April 30, 2015 Trevor Siemian(24) drafted
    March 11, 2016 Mark Sanchez(29) traded for
    April 28, 2016 Paxton Lynch(22) drafted
    September 2, 2016 Austin Davis(26) signed

Exactly two players loosely fit your hilariously incorrect assumption of John Elway's tendencies. Try again.

Yeah Sanchez was done before the bump fumble with the Jets, so their wasn't any career saving for him coming to the Broncos though. I'm saying Elway don't be shocked makes a push hard to get them there. What would Dallas get in a trade, because it would be a trade right, or just release him be a big Cap hit?

Denver does make a lot of sense, though. If Dallas wanted to trade him, I doubt the 'Boys send him to a division rival — or even a borderline NFC contender.

    Re: NFL 2017 Offseason Thread

Like numerous people have said during the season, including myself. Why would the Vikings go after Romo when A. They have Bradford who made the best out of an otherwise awful offensive situation and Teddy longterm if Bradford somehow goes off the rails. B. Said awful offensive situation that Romo wouldn't want.

I think Romo should go to Chicago or KC depending on how certain factors play into decision. if the Bears can somehow convince hit on a couple of draft picks I think their core roster is underrated and suffered through some bad luck last year. With Romo I doubt they're a Super Bowl contender but having the guy from Eastern Illinois come home, I think a playoff run isn't impossible within 2 years.

The Chiefs can be a legit threat to win now if they had pretty much anyone other than Alex Smith at QB and the cap space issue isn't as bad as in Houston and there isn't a 1st rounder to worry about like in Denver. I think the Chiefs are a near perfect scenario really.

Sam Bradford played the best football of his career and it wasn't good enough. Eventually, you realize he is a limited QB similar to Alex Smith and it's not good enough to win on a high level. Teddy B. isn't someone you can rely on. There is concern he will never make it back to playing in the NFL. Minnesota's offense could get better, especially with talented young guys at playmaking positions. Romo could help. His "best" is better than what Bradford did last year.

    Re: NFL 2017 Offseason Thread

The only reason the Viking's offense wasn't good enough was that offensive line. I'll be the first to admit I had the purple-tinted glasses on during the season. We had an arguably below average offensive line crippled into a cobbled mess of broomsticks. Doesn't help we also may have had the worst tackle in league history in Clemmings. Bradford is more than a capable QB for us. We just need to work on that bad O-Line, and I think we'll be alright. WR group is not even a concern to me. RB is a question mark though.

I'm a bit optimistic however, we've got rid of some dead weight in Fusco and Mike Harris. Also, coming into the irony department, anybody else see that Blair Walsh got signed to the Seahawks.

I don't know if Jimmy Garropolo will actually get traded from the Patriots, but he is from the Chicago area, played at Eastern Illinois, but that would make too much sense for the Bears. The Patriots wouldn't keep that 3rd overall pick, they'd trade down and load up on other picks. We have about 2 & 1/2 months until the draft, lots will happen.

    Re: NFL 2017 Offseason Thread

It would be a great trade for both teams, but the more I think about it, I just can't see the Bears giving up their first round pick for him. Second rounder sure, but first? 3rd overall? Most likely not. But who knows.

I think the Bears best course of action would be to sign one of either Barkley or Fales as the 3rd stringer, then sign Romo. Even if he gets hurt, they have Barkley/Fales to fall back on. Wouldn't be any worse than last year. Keep their 3rd pick to get someone like Adams, Allen, or Foster to give them a impact player on defense. Then use a second/third round pick on a QB. Someone like Mahomes or Webb maybe.

    Re: NFL 2017 Offseason Thread

In no way, shape or form, should the Bears trade the #3 overall for Garropolo...it's too much. I know Bears fans want anyone but, Cutler and would prefer a QB with some NFL experience. Jimmy G. is just the move the Bears would make and the price should be no more than a 2nd/3rd round pick, plus maybe a lower round to go along with it. However, this is the Bears front office...they take 1 step forward, but shoot themselves in the foot while doing it. Also, there could be a bidding war if Jimmy G. is really on the market. SF and Buffalo are two teams I've heard that are interested in him as well, plus BB doesn't have to do anything with him at all. The priority is resigning Hightower.

So it looks like Tony Romo is on his way out of Dallas. Any guesses where he lands? I'd have to imagine Denver is the front runner at this point. Heard some rumblings about the Chiefs making a play for him but I don't think their cap space could take the hit.

Texans would be a great fit for him. Or the Skins if they trade Cousins to the 9ers.

Also Marshall signs with the G Men...that wr core is nice

Romo will land in the hospital of whatever team he goes to. He's the Steve Grogan of this generation.

Damn Marshall going to the Giants, good addition for their team that was already dangerous with Beckham. Still need an RB there don't you think guys? I hope the Eagles land Cooks, I know they want might a player apart of the trade and the first Round Pick hopefully it gets done. Wentz needs weapons and if you can't get the big FA in the WR pool might as well try and make the trade happen. He'll make everyone better on the team, still might need a CB and Safety and some depth at Offensive Line and Defensive Line so it should be a interesting Free Agency to come for my team in the next week or so.

    NFL 2017 Offseason Thread

So Kirk asked for a trade (doesn't seem like he'll get it soon), Garçon is going to the Niners, and DeSean Jackson is going to the Bucs. DeSean + Evans should be nasty as long as D-Jax can play most of the games.

As for the Skins I look forward to seeing the team sign Cutler now that he's a FA and it's probably a lock that they let Cousins go in FA next season or in a trade. Nothing is better than seeing your favorite team remain unsure on how to handle any form of success. It was a fun two seasons while it lasted, Kirk.
