Anyone watch WALTER vs Muller from earlier in the year? Checked it out in preparation for the Thatcher tag and thought it was another really good 'WALTER makes a lower down guy look good by beating the crud out of him' match. Muller looks a bit of a goofball but it kinda works with him as a rookie upstart.

Thatcher/Muller vs Lorcan/Burch - thought it was pretty boring for 90% of the way. Stiffness sections were fine but nothing you haven't seen a bunch of times before

Thatcher vs Gunns - pretty boring going until Thatcher gets his face busted, which injected some drama even if his punch-drunk selling was more goofy than believable. Gunns strikes me as someone who the wXw faithful cream over, but to be fair he was pretty good here and kept the heat up through the match, which meant the second half had a strong structure and was pretty exciting. Good match with a hot crowd.

Been slowly getting through the Tag Festival. Even with cherry picking, it's not easy to get through. Gunns vs Thatcher was a bore even with the blood. Starr vs Dragunov looks good though

In all honesty it was clearly the weakest wXw big weekender in a number of years. The endless talent drop outs were a big factor.

On the 16 Carat Gold shows this weekend - Bobby Gunns vs David Starr title vs leave wXw, WALTER/Ikeda vs Thatcher/Ishikwa in addition to the already announced Ikeda vs Ishikawa AMBITION match.

Good God that tag match should be violent.

Yeah, those matches really lifts the tournament itself which has one first round match I like (Kingston Vs Makabe).

With days to go until the tournament, WWE have pulled Lio Rush because of 'scheduling clashes'. They also haven't bothered to send anyone else as a replacement, so wXw have rung up Jeff Cobb who is just popping up all over the place these days. The only thing I can think Rush is doing on the weekend is confronting Jordan Devlin at the NXT UK tapings, which raises an eyebrow on why they're holding tapings up against wXw's biggest weekend of the year, but there you go.

Even being a WWE partner doesn't seem to help you that much. People really need to stop booking WWE talent on their indie shows full stop.

Re: Westside Xtreme Wrestling General Discussion Thread

I'm not sure anyones gonna care enough to need this spoiler tagged when even I didn't bother to stay away from the match results because VOD isn't dropping until later this week, but two fairly big news notes from Carat:

    Spoiler:

Cara Noir beat Mike Bailey in the carat finals. I feel like this is a classic example of wXw not reading the room because Bailey has been over to Germany so often for wXw in the past that he was one of the biggest babyfaces of the weekend and an accepted guy who the fans think of as title worthy, where as Cara Noir was making his debut for company in the first round so it's such a strong push. If you want a safe bet, Cara Noir is gonna be NXT UK bound by the end of the year because that is both Progress and wXw jumping all over him this year so he seems to have picked his career path fairly early. Nothing about that excites me because I'm already tired of him in Progress, I didn't need another NXT audition tape from him in another company.

And then the big big news. David Starr lost to Bobby Gunns in the title vs career match so he's done with wXw. No big shocker there, I assumed that's what would happen, but the story breaking today is that WWE are blackballing Starr from the WWE associated indies so not only is he done with wXw, he's done with Progress too and it's WWE that have put all the pressure on making those promotions take that decision. It might well be the end of him being able to wrestle NXT UK talent so he's probably never getting that win over WALTER. There's a couple of reasons why given the NXT UK title stomp spot against Walter and the arguments with Gabe over twitter, but I think it's the Unionize stuff that WWE are trying to shut down. Love him or hate him, I gotta respect the guy for sticking to his beliefs this hard when he's gonna be missing out on money and an easier life. For wXw to lose Starr and Thatcher on the same weekend is pretty big, almost irreplaceable given the connection they had with the promotion. My guess is expect Starr to be showing up more on the US indies now with only Rev-Pro and OTT being able to give him high(ish) profile work. I think what it also means is OTT's relationship with WWE is fairly minimal because Starr is their champion and they continue to build all around him

Is multi-million dollar global conglomerate WWE really afraid of David Starr? I have a hard time believing it.

I don't think they're afraid of him, but they're petty enough to get irked by him.

We are talking about the company that only set up NXT UK because ITV began planning to resurrect WoS after 20 years.

WWE are petty, but is that true about NXT UK either? They've had plans for global expansion of the NXT brand from before WOS came back

From memory the UK tournament came out of nowhere not long after the WoS tapings.

This. The McIntyre and JR signings came straight after the announcement of more tapings and the highly successful partnership with Impact too
