Pick Your Best Premier League Squad (1 player per club)

Just a bit of fun to pass a lazy Friday.

What's the best starting 11 and 7 substitutes you can come up with from the current premier league clubs if you can only pick 1 player from each club? Where do you prioritise those big team picks? What formation would you play? Why would you pick anyone other than Defoe for Sunderland?

I'm playing 4-2-3-1 inspired by what Tony Pulis plays when we're losing 1-0 and are actually trying to score a goal.

    GK - Schmeichel (Leicester)

    RB - Clyne (Liverpool)
    CB - Evans (West Brom)
    CB - Van Dijk (Southampton)
    LB - Rose (Spurs)

    DM - Gueye (Everton)
    DM - Allen (Stoke)

    RW - Mkhitaryan (Man Utd)
AMC - De Bruyne (Man City)
    LW - Sanchez (Arsenal)

    CF - Costa (Chelsea)

    Bench:
    Gomes (Watford)
    Daniels (B'mouth)
    Keane (Burnley)
    Antonio (West Ham)
    Sigurdsson (Swansea)
    Defoe (Sunderland)
    Benteke (Palace)

I originally had Mahrez on the wing and De Gea in goal, but Mahrez has been anywhere near the same player this year, and no-one keeps clean sheets in this league so seemed a waste of a Utd pick to pick the best keeper. I don't think that's a back four that can be beaten given the 1 per club limitations. Went for a solid if not spectacular pair in the middle given the four in front of them and two attacking full backs. I think the big selection is what you go for up front, but Costa to me has been so unplayable this season he's the only one I wanted as my striker.

How about you? What's the best combination you can come up with?

Nice idea Ed. I'll go with a 4-2-3-1 as well. I'm mixing it a little between form this season and generally who I think are better players.

    GK - Lee Grant (Stoke)

    RB - Coleman (Everton)
    CB - Evans (WBA)
    CB - VVD (Saints)
    LB - Rose (Spurs)

    CMF - Sigurdsson (Swans)
    CMF - Coutinho (Liverpool)

    RW - Sanchez (Arsenal)
    AMF - KDB (City)
    LW - Hazard (Chelsea)

    ST - Zlatan (Man Utd)

    Bench:

    Heaton (Burnley)
    Daniels (Bournemouth)
    Davies (Hull)
Payet (WHU) for a few more days at least
    Mahrez (Leicester)
    Zaha (Palace)
    Defoe (Sunderland)

Yeah my team isn't too balanced in midfield, very attacking but sure. Thought about sticking Kante into CMF and Coutinho into the attacking but sure fantasy football and all that. Also toyed with the idea of putting Santi, who I'm a big fan of, in CMF and Mane RW but can't not go with Sanchez really.

Nearly picked Pickford in goals but Grant arguably been better this season, plus Defoe as an impact sub is a must.

Think that leaves Watford and Boro that I didn't use (unless I've stupidly used a team twice). Probably should pick Capoue or someone for my bench instead of 3 attacking midfielders/wingers but fuck it, gung ho it is! Also did that in 10 mins so could probably have put more thought into it.

    And he scores goals...!

Very fantrax inspired team there PS. I think it would be better with Kante and Key in Hazard's place, he'd do the defensive work of everyone in that midfield. Not surprised to see Jevans in your team

    Formation - 4-2-3-1

    Tom Heaton (Burnley) {vc}

Hector Bellerin (Arsenal) Steve Cook (Bournemouth) Virgil Van Dijk {c} (Southampton) Aaron Cresswell (West Ham)

Dele Alli (Spurs) Paul Pogba (Man U)

Kevin De Bruyne (Man City) Phillipe Coutinho (Liverpool) Matt Phillips (West Brom)

    Diego Costa (Chelsea)

    Bench
    Kasper Schemeichal (Leicester)
    Patrick Van Aanholt (Sunderland)
    Ben Gibson (Boro)
    Joe Allen (Stoke)
    Robert Snodgrass (Hull)
    Gylfi Siggurson (Swansea)
    Romelu Lukaku (Everton)

Went back and forth on Heaton/Schemichal and Cook/Van Aanholt. Done this relatively quick in work but I'm happy enough with the final product. On paper it may look like a weak defense but I think Cook's been outstanding and Van Dijk is probably in my top 3 choices for CB anyway, regardless of limiations. Cresswell and Bellerin have proven when fit to be two of the top full backs in the league. Dele Alli maybe playing a bit deeper than I'd like but he and Pogba won't be sitting very deep anyways. Nice blend of attacking prowess in the trio and Diego Costa was the first man on my list.

Re: Pick Your Best Premier League Squad (1 player per club)

    Jack Butland

Toby Alderweireld - Virgil Van Dijk - Steve Cook

Seamus Coleman - N'Golo Kante - Paul Pogba - Aaron Cresswell

Sadio Mane - Sergio Aguero - Alexis Sanchez

    Subs

    Tom Heaton
    Jonny Evans
    Jose Holebas
    Gylfi Sigurdsson
    Wilfried Zaha
    Riyad Mahrez
    Jermaine Defoe

As much as I like to put Hazard or Costa in I felt that other teams had similar high calibre players that could take their place but there's not a player in the league like Kante.

I went 3-4-3 to be different and I think it fits well. Mane. Kante and Sanchez should hound the ball back and Aguero is still one of the best finishers in world football whilst Pogba brings the swagger. Both wing backs offer attacking threats as well as defensive stability.

Re: Pick Your Best Premier League Squad (1 player per club)

    Order's Picks (4-3-1-2)

    Heaton

Coleman - Alderweireld - Van Dijk - Daniels

Phillips - Coutinho - De Bruyne

    Sanchez

    Zlatan (c) - Costa

    SUBS

    Snodgrass
    Zaha
    Defoe
    Sigurdsson
    Holebas
    Shawcross
    Negredo

Four at the back means I'm not playing with a holding midfielder. Got to go with a brutal attacking force. Basically went through each team and wrote down their star player and pretty much got them all in bar a couple of sides. Good idea this Ed. Will be interesting if we do this in the final week of the season to see what changes. A West Brom player in my starting XI as well

Will try a 4-3-3 for this.

    GK: Lloris (Tottenham)
    RB: Coleman (Everton)
    CB: Morgan (Leicester)
    CB: Van Dijk (Southampton)
    LB: Cresswell (West Ham)
    CM: Lallana (Liverpool)
    CM: De Bruyne (Man City)
    CM: Sigurddson (Swansea)
    RW: Mkhiyaryan (Man United)
    ST: Diego Costa (Chelsea)
    LW: Sanchez (Arsenal)

    Subs:
    Defoe (Sunderland)
    Cook (Bournemouth)
    Snodgrass (Hull)
    Phillips (West Brom)
    Allen (Stoke)
    Benteke (Palace)
    Heaton (Burnley)

Could have probably done better but I don't think it's that bad.
