Fright Fest 8: Now Accepting Donations for a 4K Restoration

It's September 21st and it's Stephen King's birthday. That seems to be as good of a reason to officially kick out the latest Fright Fest thread. As always, Fright Fest is an annual October thread where I will review one horror movie every day of October (Let's just assume that at some point I will get behind and have to post two reviews in a day at least once) to celebrate the greatest month that baby Jesus ever made up. In past years, I've reviewed a little bit of everything. Going to the theater to see the latest horror, silent films, foreign from all around the world, classic Universal Monsters, 80's slashers, full horror series, some of the best horror movies ever made, and of course many absolute dreadful horror movies as well. Who knows, I may even cheat and cover a few horror TV episodes at some point as well.

Like in past years, I'd like to cover as many films as possible that were requested by the members of WC. If you'd like me to review a horror movie, take a quick look at the spoiler below to see if I've covered it yet and if I haven't, request it in here. The likelihood of me reviewing your request is greatly helped by requesting it as soon as possible, which is part of the reason why I create this thread early. If you're only getting around to requesting a horror movie on October 28th, chances are it'll be too late.

After doing this seven previous times, I can't imagine there's anything else to say. Below you'll find links to the seven previous threads or if you click the spoiler, individual movie review links will appear. Once Fright Fest officially begins on October 1st, I'll be adding Fright Fest 8 links in the spoiler as well.

Honestly out of all holidays during the year, Halloween is my favorite time of the year. I'm probably the only family member who gets enjoyment seeing Jason cut off someone's head, or Freddy mentally destroying his victims till the point where he finishes them off. I'll be reading the reviews no doubt, if I had to give a request would you be willing to request the Conjuring two movies? I think you did the Annabelle movie, but I would like to know how you feel about those two movies.

The Conjuring 2 would probably have the better chance of being covered. I had bought and watched the Conjuring Blu-Ray when the sequel came out to the theater. I saw The Conjuring 2 in the theater (Really enjoyed it) and now that it's on Blu-Ray, I wouldn't mind seeing how it compares on my TV compared to the big screen. Not to mention to get a gauge on where it should be in my top ten horror at the end of the year.

I had actually completely forgotten that I reviewed Annabelle during Fright Fest 6.

It's been several years since I've seen it, it's certainly really good, and it's an easy foreign film to watch.

Safe to say it'll be reviewed at some point in October.

The good news: I reviewed Zombeavers last year, which you can instantly read.

The stupid news: You even replied to the Zombeavers review last year.

*Edit* Zombeavers is now in the spoiler archive. I'll go through all of Fright Fest 7 (Which still holds the record for most replies for a Fright Fest) tonight to make sure every review is linked)

Silent Hill will be the most likely one to be reviewed. I saw that in the theater a decade ago, but haven't revisited it since. I saw The Collector once, but the biggest incentive I'd have to watch it again is to finally get around to watching The Collection.

Dead Silence...ugh. I hate it. I hate it so much. It had some creepy dolls, the music was fine, and the final act was an improvement, but so much of the movie is just a dull mess. It took me years to finally watch all of it because I kept falling asleep.

I've already re-watched Shaun of the Dead and watched Doghouse this year, might as well watch another British zombie flick.

I own The Dentist on DVD and haven't seen it for years, so at least that should be an almost lock to be reviewed.

I just saw both films (And the original The Thing From Another World) in August. So it's too soon for a re-watch.

Thing From Another World - Hokey like most 50's movies, but there's some pretty good suspenseful scenes. 7/10

The Thing - An absolute classic. Unlike the other two movies, this one nailed the frustration and utter sense of annoyance that comes from being stuck with people 24/7 for months at a time, which makes the scares all the better. 10/10

The Thing (2011) - Awful CGI, no one stands out, and since literally everyone just got to the scene with things then immediately going down, no one had time to be annoyed with each other properly. It's as if the writers watched the original and tried to redo it without understanding what made the original great. 5/10

Man oh man. I've got a couple requests.

    Deep Red (Profondo Rosso) (1975)
    Phenomena (1985)
The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (1970)
Four Flies on a Grey Velvet (1971)
    Opera (1987)
    Zombi 2 (1979)

A bunch of Argento movies and a Fulci classic I see you don't have listed.
