Shocked no one voted for my two matches that are in the first batch. Balls doing a Frog Splash what what, and Dreamer having to finish off C.W Anderson with Barbed Wire across his face to make him quit.

Re: The Greatest ECW Match Ever - The Countdown

Glad to see this is on! Sabu vs Taz from ECW on TNN, nothing to be blown away by but these were my two favorite ECW wrestlers/characters, this was their last match and it was cool. I couldn't cut it. I liked the finish with Sabu picking up a clean win over Taz.

Mike Awesome vs Spike is a good one. Also enjoyed the Terry Funk vs Eddie Gilbert matches and RVD vs Balls, that was one of my very last cuts.

The Anarchy Rulz 3 way is so fun to me, the part where they destroy Guido, then the one on one between Crazy vs Tajiri is one of their best ever.

I love the whole thing they had going with Sandman and Mikey in 95, those matches were pretty stiff hardcore brawls, with a great contrast in characters with the grizzled drunk tough guy with Woman, then you had Mikey the strait edge underdog babyface kid. Good stuff. The match that made my list was the one where Stone Cold comes out and carries Woman away, then Mikey wins the ECW World Title.

Re: The Greatest ECW Match Ever - The Countdown

I think that match was Tajiri and Mikey Whipwreck vs Crazy and Kash.

I'm surprised the match isn't higher. Great spot fest match and is better than the Guilty as Charged 2001 three way.

I'm somewhat surprised to see Jericho vs. Scorpio not get more attention, which I'm hoping is because it flew under the radar, because it really is quite good. In fact, that whole card, The Doctor is In, is one of ECW's best overall cards.

Re: 62. Sabu vs Shane Douglas vs Tommy Dreamer

I remember rating this very highly the first time I saw it, but when I saw it again for this project, it didn't hold up at all. It was classic ECW, in that you had a lot wild and innovative spots, but with nothing at all to hold them together.

Re: 63. Balls Mahoney vs Rob Van Dam

This was not a match I thought much of. Balls Mahoney was the wrong opponent for RVD. who, like a lot of ECW guys, needed someone who can hold a match together, and by going so long, not only was that fact made clear, it was also made clear that Mahoney was a below average worker. I don't think this could ever have been great, or even that good, but it might have had a chance to be decent if they had kept it to ten-minutes.

Re: 53. Rob Van Dam vs Jerry Lynn

If you re-read what I wrote about their other matches in the nominations thread , you can apply that here, because their matches were very similar; lots of spots and big moves, and not much else, but with Lynn making RVD look spectacular by being a great landing pad.

Re: 53. Sabu & Rob Van Dam vs Hayabusa & Jinsei Shinzaki

Again, the same pattern for a lot of ECW matches; tons of great spots, but nothing to hold them together.

Re: The Greatest ECW Match Ever - The Countdown

I didn't know I could have listed Funk vs Bret or it would have made my list. So many of the Tajiri vs Crazy matches almost made my list, the Crossing the Line match was one that stood out from the rest for me. Speaking of Crossing the Line, RVD vs Jerry Lynn from that show came close to making my list. One thing about these RVD vs Jerry Lynn matches that I always liked was how they would do certain back and forth chain sequences in a match, then the next match would have a follow up where one guy will see something coming that was done in their previous match and try to counter it, he would try that again in the next match but the other guy would counter the counter, there are a few sequences that carry through those matches like that, the match at Living Dangerously played off of their Crossing The Line match with that.

I was a little underwhelmed by Scorpio vs Jericho, I guess I was expecting it to be way better but for whatever reasons I just was not blown away by that match. I do agree with Ego though that The Dr. Is In is a top five GOAT ECW shows, maybe even top 3.

Van Dam and Sabu vs Hakushi and Hayabusa is a match I used to be really crazy about but when I rewatched it for this list it just did not hold up. The early parts of the match are not that great. It does pick up nicely and has a great finish, plus just the spectacle of Van Dam, Sabu, Hayabusa, and Hakushi in a match together, four of the coolest looking wrestlers of the 90's to me.

Damn..I totally forgot to watch Jericho vs Scorpio. I remember it being really great.

I think I loved Dreamer vs Sabu vs Douglas simply because it was so classic ECW. Its position on my list was based off a first viewing.

I agree with Shinobi on his point about RVD vs Lynn. I also found they built on their past matches.

Missed out on Scorpio/Jericho as well, just didn't have the time to re-watch The Doctor is In. Remember it being pretty hot though.

Hart/Funk is great, glad to see Crocker list it as well.

Wow I'm surprised I'm the only one who voted from Malenko vs Scorpio. Match was great. Same for Tajiri vs Crazy. It was both their debut match and they hit a home run

I know I didn't rate a Justin Credible match in my 25! Must have me mistaken with someone else's #17

Malenko Vs Scorpio must of slipped through the cracks for me when researching this project, sounds like a match I'd enjoy.

Justin Credible was very underrated as a worker, somewhat because he wasn't overly charismatic, but mainly because his look made him seem like a poor man's Steve Austin rip-off. The entourage didn't help, either, because it turned his matches into dog-and-pony shows, which wears thin after a while. Beyond that, though, was a very solid worker who could hold a match together and make spot monkey's shine and carry them to a better quality of match than they'd otherwise have. Credible isn't the guy to carry a promotion, but I can see why Heyman, given his options, went with Credible, because Credible could make anyone, especially the guy who is carrying the promotion, look good.

Re: The Greatest ECW Match Ever - The Countdown

Damn, this is getting good already. I love all of the Cactus vs Sandman matches, I don't think I've seen the Orlando match but the Texas Death Match they had almost made my list.

I think we have a mistake with Sabu vs Sandman, I'm assuming that is the Stairway to Hell match. That match was never aired on Hardcore TV, they showed like a 90 second highlight clip at most, you had to buy House Party 98 to see the full match. I had the Stairway to Hell match pretty high on my list.

A bunch of the Anarchy Rulz 99 matches made my list, I love seeing the ones from that show that didn't make my list getting some love here. I'd put Balls vs RVD up against any 1999 PPV main event, Sabu vs Credible was also a lot of fun, Anarchy Rulz 99 is my personal favorite ECW show.

Shane Douglas vs Credible is another match that came close to making my list. I used to hate on Justin Credible so hard back in the day, probably one of my least favorite wrestlers of all time but my opinion has changed quite a bit with him over the last few years. He had several really good ECW matches.

Malenko vs Scorpio and RVD vs Furnas are two matches I used to be crazy about but just didn't like that much when rewatching them for this list.

Dreamer and the Pit Bulls vs Brian Lee and the Bruise Bros in 98? I'm assuming this was from 96? Is this the match where Dreamer sacrifices himself and gets superbombed onto Raven on the table?

Rey vs Juvy from the Big Apple Blizzard Blast was another that came really close to making my list. The Rey/Juvy/Psicosis matches in ECW are some of my favorites, not just ECW but wrestling period.

I voted for Dreamer & Funk vs. Jack & Raven so it should move up a bit in the rankings. Great match, total ECW brawl from beginning to end. Glad to see Ed and Crocker had the good sense to back me up on the Rey/Psicosis match. Won't be the last time those two appear on my list.
