Commentary did my nut in. Justice for the England XI. Seriously what the....

England were good value for the win but sat back as soon as they scored. Should have went for the kill and chucked Vardy or Sturridge on.
Not as bad as Robbie Savages commentary earlier

Re: Euro 2016 Group B Discussion Thread

So irritating to throw a result away in the last minute, Russia didn't look like scoring all night and then they loop a header perfectly in on the 92nd. Fuck sake man.

Thought England were the best team I've seen so far at the Euros, usually it's a drag to watch us play but I thought that first half was very entertaining and we just couldn't get the goal. Midfield were on fire and Rose/Walker threats down the middle, the only guy letting us down was Kane who had a poor night. Why bother bringing Vardy, Sturridge and Rashford if Kane's gonna be that quiet infront of goal and yet you still won't sub him or change it around. Don't get me started on the corners. Half time was the worst thing to happen to us as we couldn't keep it up after the break, but when Dier scored the free kick the win was ours. Only Roy decides that's the time to go defensive even though Russia weren't hurting us, when it's 1-0 the other team always have one chance, and we all know our defence is the weakest part of our game. I mean seriously Roy, fuck off for not putting Vardy on, game was crying out for him to give us a counter attacking threat after we scored.

We should be celebrating a good performance, a win and looking forward to the rest of the tournament, and now it's back to 'pfff typical England fluffing their lines on the big stage'. From what I saw today, I think we'll beat Wales on Thursday but we need to be more clinical with our end product.

You should beat us but I actually think it will be a draw. England like to keep it nervous. Any result for us Thursday should see us through, at least as a best 3rd.

Russia in trouble because of their fans after the match. Good thing that they are hosting the next World Cup. As always, Fuck FIFA.

Savage was irritating on commentary but I wanted to batter Tyldesley by the end. Yes England played well and deserved to win but at 0-0 after 55 minutes he was acting as if they were totally out-classing some world class side. Russia looked bang average and England should have been beating them handily in all honesty.

Needed to take some of their first half chances when really on top.

    And he scores goals...!

Roy's tactics at the end were bewildering after a good first 75 minutes. Game should have been dead and buried by then to be honest. One goal is never enough. Taking Rooney off was a massive error for me and Sterling was awful, if he starts the next game I'll be stunned.

annoying result. We looked good, just didn't take our chances, simple as.

Sterling looked lost up top, & Kane was ineffective. No clue why Roy didn't at least experiment with Vardy or Sturridge. But still, Lallana, Walker, Rose all looked great & Rooney settled into his different role nicely. No alarm bells yet.

Annoying result. Why go defensive and negative trying to hold onto a 1-0 lead when you can bring on Vardy and push for a second goal. Roy shouldn't have taken Rooney off. Why was Kane taking corners. Still think we can qualify from this group. Hopefully we get it right against Wales.

Now England fans know how we feel having to listen to commetry at every major tournament

Can't wait to get out to France on Wednesday. The win gives us an excellent chance of getting through to the knockout stages.

Shame about the result and conceding so late on! happy with the way we played just needed to kill the game!
Harry Kane on set pieces still? surly you would like your 6 foot striker in the box?

Re: Euro 2016 Group B Discussion Thread

There is a danger of falling into traps based purely on the result.

If England had managed to defend that one final ball into the box better then everyone would be saying "well done Hodgson, he knew when to shut up shop". Imagine if we had chucked another striker on and then conceded, that would appear far more naive and he would've been slaughtered.

The facts are that we played very well against a mediocre side, deserved to win, and were very unlucky not to do so. It was similar in the World Cup, we played pretty well against Italy but didn't get what we wanted. The key now is to follow up with a good performance against Wales, unlike the World Cup where we were awful in our 2nd game against Uruguay.

Not a time for players to feel sorry for themselves and rue what might have been, they have to pick themselves up today because England, correctly, expects a win against Wales.

Re: Euro 2016 Group B Discussion Thread

I'll agree with that Simmo. Even if we had won though I would have complained about us replacing Rooney with whoever. He was one of the standouts and was controlling the game as much as he could from midfield. He's the only England player who has the ability to do that and by substituting him you were essentially relinquishing control of the ball.

I could understand if he brought on a more defensive minded midfielder but Jack Wilshere is woeful in that position. I still have no idea how he is even at the tournament. Henderson would have been a much better option if he was so set on making a change.

I'm not on the Vardy should have come on bandwagon either. That wasn't the reason we drew.

If England can't hold out a 1-0 lead for 20 minutes against a poor Russia side, then there is no good time for England to shut up shop. The defence isn't good enough to hold slender leads. It doesn't play to the strengths of our squad.

I'm not saying Roy should of gone gung-ho and threw all the forwards on, but Vardy for Kane wouldn't of hurt the defensive side of our game and would of offered a counter attacking threat. Vardy for Sterling would't of weakened us either. If you aren't going to introduce Jamie Vardy when faced with the two situations Roy had in that 2nd half of 1) we just can't get that goal, time is slipping away, is it time for something different and 2) YES we've got the goal, Russia are gonna have to come forward more now in search of the goal and leave space at the back.....when are you going to play him?

You're right though, there were a lot of positives to take from the performance and the group is still ours to win if we play like that again in our next two games.
