I'm surprised no one has actually compared this to the car accident Oscar Taveras had just a couple of years ago that killed him. I know it's not exactly the same since it's confirmed he was drinking and driving, but they both share the story of the sudden loss of a young a promising player who could have avoided his demise. Gordon's homer and raw emotions reminded me of watching Carlos Martinez's emotional reaction to the tribute they had for O.T. before Carlos had to go out and pitch (a gem too) a game.
The other issue is we don't know much about Oscar, he spent 5(?) months in the majors, and while he made an impact, it's nowhere near the impact that Jose Fernandez had.

Right. I was just talking about the fact that they were both young promising players, it's obvious that Fernandez appeared to have a higher ceiling and probably a much higher floor.

    4. Robinson Cano
    5. David Ortiz

    NL MVP
    1. Kris Bryant
    2. Nolan Arenado
    3. Daniel Murphy

    3. Max Scherzer
    4. Clayton Kershaw
    5. Jose Fernandez

    AL Rookie of the Year

Not gonna go too in depth on awards. Seager should have it locked up and so should Fulmer. Sanchez doesn't have enough time despite being a machine. Verlander is probably gonna grab the Cy Young and idk where they go nl. Hendricks isn't a terrible Shout but Kershaw had it locked up before he got hurt.

And if the Cubs don't win this year the curse is real and they should just burn Wrigley

    http://www.csnphilly.com/video/citiz...areer-phillies

Man for a long season for my Phillies such a great, but sad moment this weekend seeing The Big Piece's last game maybe as a Phillie. He's the last of the players from the team who were on the past Phillies teams when they were good and he was one of the most important reasons why we won so many games over the years. My favorite Phillie during that run from 06-11, was probably Utley, but damn everytime you saw Howard at the plate you always thought this guy could change the momentum of a game with one swing. Yeah he loaded it up with K's every season, but I'll take 40 plus Home Runs in his prime with 100 plus RBI's every season. Howard's injury after that Cardinals game, was the nail in the dagger for his career, he was never the same physically or mentality.

I mean 2005 Rookie of the Year
    2006 NL MVP
    382 HR and counting

So sad though Rollins and Utley not being on the team anyone, they didn't get the treatment like this. I really wish they did, both guys put just as much work for my team over the years like Howard.

Howard is such a puzzling player, had two good years, one above average year, and basically stole money from the Phillies for the last 5 years, but is still revered.

That's the organization fault no doubt. I think when it comes to Howard, alot of fans really gave him slack due to him striking out in key situations during a game. He also homered or got a hit in some situations as well to give us wins. It's the Ying and Yang type of love with Howard for me, but still can't deny when he was on..dude was one of the most dangerous hitters in Baseball in his prime.

Red Sox to retire number 34 next season! Well deserved, Big Papi has been such a great force for the team as a player and as a spokesperson.

    AL MVP : Betts

Trout finishes second...with him the Angels finished 4th, without him they finish 5th. His WAR advantage is not much and I can't just go by the advanced metrics. Betts had a better year...I know the argument is that he's a corner OF, but in reality, he's 2B playing out of position in the OF. He should be a CF, but Bradley is a vacuum cleaner.

    NL MVP: Bryant

He won this in July, Freeman and Arenado just play on bad teams

    AL CY: Porcello

Who knew after last year? Britton being a closer really hurts him, but he deserves it more than anyone.

    NL CY: Scherzer

Hendricks is a nice story, but even Lester has better numbers. Scherzer is the guy.

    AL ROY: Sanchez

Willie McCovey played in 52 games and won his ROY. Sanchez has much better numbers and carried the team for two months.

    NL ROY: Seager

If Trevor Story didn't get hurt, it would probably be a different name, but he did and Seager was consistently good all year.

Not just for the team but for the league. One of the most entertaining personalities and consistent sluggers the league will ever see. Really hope we can go and get him another ring to close things out for him.

And this might be my Red Sox bias coming in but Betts totally deserves the MVP over Trout considering Trout's wasting his prime years on one of the weakest teams in baseball.

Not really related to Ortiz's on the field work, but this will forever be one of my favorite commercials.

What a coincidence with the date too

Betts is totally deserving of the MVP.

The real dagger of today is that Vin Scully has called his last game with the Dodgers. Easily one of the best announcers in baseball over a lengthy period of time, and now it's sadly time to say good bye.

He said he still felt great, but knew his skills were diminishing.

I picked a Cleveland-San Fran World Series when the season started so I'll stick with that, although I honestly think the Nats will win the NL Pennant. The AL is wide open, but shit, why not the Rangers...
