Re: Fear The Walking Dead Discussion

I loved this season and love this show. They have done a great job IMO at keeping it in the Walking Dead verse yet making it unique and different. The music was awesome same with the artistic/set work/camera work or whatever you call it. Some beautiful shots in the finale. I do have to say their plan was dumb as shit, setting a stadium full of zombies out on the HQ they are trying to break into and get out of. I guess they had no choice with what the military was planning but still, so many flaws in that plan.

They kind of had to end season 1 with the full on infection spreading but I agree it would of been nice for them to extend that out into a full season (12 or more episodes). Season 2 will be a lot more tricky to keep it from becoming TWD 2.0. You already have Travis, much like Rick learning how cruel this world is gonna be by having his decision to let the guy go completely backfire and his daughter's death is totally on Travis' hands. Hopefully he doesn't just become another Rick and they keep his character different.

I wasn't thrilled with season one, but this show has gotten A LOT better this season. Much needed improvements.

Walking Dead season one was some of the best television I've ever watched, including re-watches. It was downhill from there and I tapered off during season 4 and issue 100~ of the comics. This didn't even start out well. Shout out to Daniel the barber and I'm holding out that Nick and Chris die if I give season 2 a shot.

Season one was decent. Season two is a mess. It's been like a week since the apocolypse and the whole world hates each other and is out to kill one another. Makes no sense at all. I'm a couple episodes from giving up on it entirely.

While i don't entirely agree with this, and perhaps just have less faith in humanity than you, i do agree in the sense that the show has fast become simply an inferior version of the original. What i loved about season one was the slow burn aspect and seeing how the breakout would initially effect the world which we didn't see in the original show. Season two could definitely have just extended on that idea, but instead has just jumped straight into all out war between humans and pretty much the same world as we already see in The Walking Dead. It's still a really good show and I am enjoying it, but for me it is now basically a second rate version of the original rather than a stand alone series based on the same ideas but presented differently.

This show was always facing a battle against the preconceptions I had about what it could be when they announced it to be honest. This could've been really special and something totally different from The Walking Dead but existing within the same universe. Instead, like you said, this is a second rate version of the original and given how up and down my opinion is on that to begin with this one has fallen quickly from being a show I watch the day after it airs once I'm done with all my other shows, to being a show I watch when I get the time. I watched last Sunday's episode this afternoon and the only thing keeping me watching is the quality of the cast.

It doesn't help that this show is one of the main reasons Alycia Debnam-Carey ended up having to leave The 100. I loved her in that show and for my money it is infinitely better than this one... so not only did they fumble the shows potential for me from the very beginning, they went and fucked over one of my favourite shows but poaching a cast member from them. Not cool.

I'm honestly not sure I'll make it to the end of this season. If I wanted to watch an inferior version of The Walking Dead, I'd check out Z Nation.

Re: Fear The Walking Dead Discussion

I know this is an old thread, but thought I'd pop in here and see if anybody else is still watching this show or gave it another chance now that Morgan is on it?
I watched the first season when it aired and liked it but never got around to the rest until the last few weeks and I just got all caught up. It isn't bad, it has way more ups and downs than Walking Dead but I am interested in what happens this season. I won't be surprised if bringing Morgan in will just lead to this show combining with Walking Dead.
But since season 3 left off kinda weird and this one kinda just picks up randomly years later, I hope they fill in the blanks, because if not I'm probably done with the show.

Two episodes in so far. Really like the three new characters we've got thus far. That first episode was great also I quite like the vultures. They make for an interesting group of villains.

Re: Fear The Walking Dead Discussion

    Spoiler:

So I've been a die hard fan of this show, to the point where I defend it blindlessly.

When I say this show I mean TWD and this spin off.

Yet I may finally be reaching my breaking point. I don't understand how a writer/show runner can think it's the best direction for the story to write Madison Clark off.

I thought it was Kim Dicken's decision to leave and she asked for it like Nick's actor did, but it wasn't the case. She was instead heart broken and devasted when she learned they were writing her off.

I just don't get it. She was easily the best character on the show and their was no reason to write her off. But the new show runners apparently felt otherwise.

I honestly don't think Alicia or any of the other remaining characters are strong enough to be the lead role. Kim Sickens was and she was one of my favorites.

This move makes absolute ZERO sense to me, and for the first time I'm starting to get frustrated with the decision making of the showrunners.

Re: Fear The Walking Dead Discussion

My guess... ratings and money. The ratings for the show have declined steadily, similar to the how the main show is dropping. And its getting pretty rough in the newest episodes, but even late season last season was some low spots. Low ratings means less money from advertising. So you cut costs. That means the better known actors/actresses are the most vulnerable. Similar to why there might be some departures from TWD.

Man, i wish that spoiler would have occurred sooner than it did. I like the new characters they have, especially John, who seems to be more of a supporting character though. I watch the show and think it has improved, minus the thing with Nick (which was the actor's choice) and like where it is going.

The main show on the other hand, no.

On a positive side I'm really looking forward to the storm storyline next season. I've said many times even on here I think that a big storm or even flood story arc would be super cool to see on TWD.

Anyone else catch that there was a tape labeled "Abraham / Doc". It was probably just an Easter Egg, but it would be awesome for the show to show at least an interview from Abraham and Eugene while they were out in Texas.
