WWE Wrestlemania 31 - United States Champion Rusev vs. John Cena

The first meeting between these two warriors took place in February at WWE Fastlane, where The Super Athlete, with the aid of Lana and a low blow, retained his U.S. Championship after Cena passed out in the Accolade
    .

In the following weeks, Cena demanded a rematch against The Hero of the Russian Federation, only for Rusev to repeatedly deny him the opportunity to go one-on-one. Following a heated exchange with Stephanie McMahon, in which she made clear Cena would only compete at WrestleMania if Rusev conceded to a rematch, it seemed as if, for the first time in 11 years, there would be no Cena at WrestleMania. That changed on the March 9 edition of Raw, though, when the Cenation leader left Lana little choice but to accept his challenge, forcing Rusev to pass out in the STF before Lana granted Cena his long-awaited rematch.

Rusev has been on a path of destruction since making his debut last year, picking up victories over the likes of former World Champions Jack Swagger, Mark Henry and Big Show. With The Ravishing Russian by his side, Rusev was able to conquer Sheamus to win the U.S. Title, his first championship in WWE. Now, after almost one year of not being pinned or made to submit, Rusev looks to cement himself as an unstoppable force with a victory over the 15-time World Champion.

Cena has had nothing short of a legendary 13-year career in WWE, not only becoming the WWE World Heavyweight Champion 12 times, but also winning the United States Championship, as well as several tag team championships, the Royal Rumble Match and the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. In his 12th appearance on The Showcase of the Immortals, Cena looks to put down The Bulgarian Brute and reclaim the U.S. Title after 10 years of not holding the star-spangled championship.

Can Rusev defeat Cena once again? Will Cena give Rusev his first decisive loss in WWE? And what role might Lana play in this epic clash?

Find out who will stand tall on The Grandest Stage of Them All when WrestleMania 31 takes place live on WWE Network Sunday, March 29!

So far, the best booked program heading into WrestleMania. Rusev is probably the second strongest guy in the WWE (behind Lesnar) and even with what happened this past Monday, looks really indestructible. And the booking for Cena and the way he's playing his role has been really good. Those evil faces last Raw was ace.

This is another fascinating clash here. Is this going to be the night when John Cena finally taps out? Will Cena put Rusev over clean on the grandest stage of them all? Will Cena actually win and carry a mid card title?
I've enjoyed watching the buildup to this match too, to be fair on Cena he's done a good job.

I don't know which way to call it, I find it unbelievable to imagine Cena carrying the US title, but given the main event scene (Reigns is likely to win leading to a feuds with Rollins, maybe even a Lesnar rematch if he sticks around) so having Cena as the US champ certainly has it's pros.
Also, Rusev's unbeaten gimmick has to come to an end at some point before it becomes stale, but ending it at Wrestlemania may not be the best idea.

I have to say, I think I'm leaning towards a Cena win here.

I say give Rusev the win here, push him to the fucking moon, and make it count when someone actually beats him - like a face Reigns (if he still is after 'Mania) or someone else that they want to push towards the title in the aftermath of WrestleMania 31.

If that's not what they're doing then they need to have Cena keep the US title for a long time (six to twelve months) show that he cares about it, and have him drop it to someone coming up that they wanna see do well; Zayn, Owens, Neville, Itami, Balor... someone from NXT who has real potential for the future.

Both guys here have the potential to create stars due to how they've been booked. I'm begging WWE to use that right.

All those guys are great and all but it would make more sense for an American to get that first win over Rusev. And as much as I would like Rusev to go over at WM, I have a feeling Cena will get the win, which unlike last year with Wyatt, really isn't a bad choice in my opinion

If not Cena, Reigns is the likely culprit to end Rusev's streak but it's up in the air at this stage. Love the way they've booked Rusev in the past year, he's a fucking monster. Didn't expect him to reach this far when I first saw him

I wish they would go kind of old school. And actually let him have the unbeatable gimmick and keep going and going at least for another year.

Hopefully, if Lesnar re-signs, that's what they'll do with him. If he doesnt leave then why not keep the belt on him a couple years.

If Lesnar leaves, then fuck yeah strap the rocket to Rrrrrusev

Yeah, that's kinda why I said that if Rusev's losing they should be the ones at the top of the pile to beat Cena. Honestly I have so much excitement at the mere thought of any of those guys facing off with Cena to take the US title after he's held it for an extended period of time and then puts them over hard.

Their match was good at Fast Lane. Don't know if I really want to see them fight again, but it makes sense booking-wise. I thought they would go with a Submission stip or have Cena put his career on the line, but I guess they want to create the illusion that Rusev might win.

I hope this will be a real nice brawl. Cena remains interesting to me as long as he's in the scrappy patriot mode he's in. I want hard hitting offense from him in this, I hope they don't waste too much time with rest holds and all that... a short, sweet, brutal 10 minute match will more than satisfy me. I prefer Rusev to Seth Rollins or Roman Reigns honestly.. I will be extremely upset if he doesn't go over in the biggest match of his career thus far.

I am all for seeing this again. Their match at Fastlane was great and I expect their Mania match with more time to be even better whatever the result. Rusev has proven he is one of the best workers on the roster and I for one am excited about his future with or without the United States Title. I mean think of the people he could still face. He has only really faced Sheamus, Ryback and now Cena who are credible threats. Great booking for him so far but can WWE keep it up?

Man I really hope Rusev wins this, I just don't trust WWE's booking if he loses. If Cena wins I'd like to see it be the same idea as HHH vs Taker, where taker wins but only just. Should be a pretty good match tho.
