NXT Takeover Special NXT Takeover: Rival - February 11th 2015

The Superstars and Divas of NXT are ready to take over WWE Network once again!

NXT TakeOver will air LIVE on WWE Network Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

The last NXT live special, December’s TakeOver: R Evolution, featured the debut of hard-hitting Superstar Kevin Owens, Finn Bálor’s otherworldly war paint and entrance, a classic bout between NXT Women’s Champion Charlotte and Sasha Banks, as well as Sami Zayn’s NXT Championship victory and the heartbreak that followed.

The NXT roster has raised the bar with every live special. What will they do to reach new heights at TakeOver?

Though it will not be contested for Zayn’s NXT Championship — General Manager William Regal ruled that Owens has not yet earned such a golden opportunity less than two months into his remarkable NXT career, nor does Regal want to reward bad behavior — the match remains one of the most anticipated encounters in NXT history. Former friends, Zayn’s and Owens’ careers have been intertwined from almost the very start, and with Owens’ much-ballyhooed arrival to NXT in December came big expectations that the two warriors would end up in the same ring eventually, either as partners or opponents.

What nobody could have expected, however, was the vicious and unforgiving manner in which Owens betrayed his longtime ally, stealing Zayn’s spotlight at NXT TakeOver: R Evolution. Mere moments after congratulating Zayn on his successful quest to become NXT Champion, Owens did an about-face, decimating the popular Superstar with a powerbomb onto the ring apron — a scary attack that sidelined the newly crowned NXT Champion for weeks. When Zayn finally did return to turn back the challenge of former champion Adrian Neville, it was not long before the burly and dangerous Owens greeted him with a pop-up powerbomb.

This all set the stage for Zayn’s plea to Regal on the Jan. 21 edition of NXT, when he all but demanded a match against Owens, even going so far as to refuse to wrestle again unless it be against the grizzled newcomer.

At NXT TakeOver, Zayn gets his wish, and with the usually affable champion now seething and seeking payback, there is no telling what’s in store. Will the NXT Universe see a new and even more intense side of their champion? Or will Owens solidify his place atop the NXT mountain, tearing down his onetime friend in the process? Watch the deeply personal rivalry play out live when NXT TakeOver airs Wednesday, Feb. 11, on WWE Network.

The NXT Women’s Champion will defend her title against Bayley, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch in a Fatal 4-Way.

Charlotte has held the title since last May’s TakeOver, when she defeated Natalya in the finals of an eight-Diva tournament to win the vacant championship. Since then, Charlotte has turned back all challengers, including Bayley and Banks on several occasions. Now, she’ll have to face them both, plus Becky Lynch, in a match where she doesn’t have to be pinned to lose her title.

Banks, Charlotte’s former BFF, has had her sights set on the NXT Women’s Championship for months now, though she hasn’t been able to take it for herself. The Boss came up short at TakeOver: R Evolution in early December, as well as the Christmas night edition of NXT. However, after pinning Charlotte in tag team action, Banks earned another championship opportunity – one that came to a premature conclusion when her new pal in Team B.A.E., Becky Lynch, interfered.

Bayley had been out of action with a knee injury, aggravated at the hands of Sasha and Becky, but returned to action on Jan. 21 to thwart her rivals’ double team attack on Charlotte. After running Team B.A.E. off, the happy-go-lucky Bayley picked up the NXT Women’s Championship and took a long, hard look at it, which didn’t sit well with the champion. Showing a newfound confidence, Bayley drove her friend into the canvas with a Belly-to-Bayley Suplex. The chaos led NXT General Manager William Regal to make the Fatal 4-Way on the spot.

Can Charlotte escape with her NXT Women’s Title, or will we see the crowning of a new champion? Find out at NXT TakeOver, live on WWE Network Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT!

For weeks, the NXT Universe has watched excitedly as a field of eight Superstars has been winnowed down to just Neville and Bálor. The Man Who Gravity Forgot, who held the NXT Title for nearly 10 months before falling to current champion Sami Zayn, advanced to the final round by defeating Tyson Kidd and then Baron Corbin. Irish-born sensation Bálor, meanwhile, stomped his way into the finals with wins over Curtis Axel and respected ally Hideo Itami.

At TakeOver: Rival, the two dynamic and highly popular Superstars will meet for the first time in an NXT ring. What can the world expect to see when Neville’s blink-and-you-missed strike combinations and aerial artistry are pitted against Bálor’s world-renowned arsenal?

Will Neville leap back into the NXT Title scene just months after losing the championship? Or will Bálor, who has taken away the collective breath of the NXT Universe since debuting in September, force his way into title contention for the first time?

The Lucha Dragons stunned the NXT Universe when they dethroned The Ascension at TakeOver: Fatal 4-Way last September, ending the longest NXT Tag Team Championship reign in history. Kalisto & Sin Cara turned back all challenges after that, including two impressive title defenses against the nefarious Vaudevillains.

Blake & Murphy, however, came out of nowhere in 2015. Many had them pegged as a team to watch this year, after a few impressive showings in 2014 where they came up short (including matches against The Lucha Dragons). The new team’s fortunes changed on the Jan. 21 edition of NXT, when they upset The Vaudevillains. After the victory, the upstarts almost immediately challenged the champions, which The Lucha Dragons were happy to accept.

The two teams clashed for the titles in what looked to be an evenly contested match, with the challengers using a mix of power and agility to slow down the speedy champions. In the end, it was a quick tag while Kalisto was executing his lightning-quick offense that allowed Blake to slip in behind the masked marvel and pin him to capture the titles.

The new champions immediately said that they would give The Lucha Dragons their rematch any time they wanted it. Kalisto & Sin Cara will get their chance at regaining the titles on Feb. 11 at TakeOver. Can Blake & Murphy turn back the former titleholders? Or will The Lucha Dragons show that the new champions are a flash in the pan? Find out at NXT TakeOver: Rival, live on WWE Network Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. Dempsey has been keeping a close eye on Corbin in recent months, watching as The Lone Wolf racked up victory after victory in mere seconds. The two titans began staring each other down in recent weeks, before coming to blows in a pull-apart brawl.

The undefeated Corbin and Bull finally met in the ring on the Jan. 14 edition of NXT, with Baron showing off tremendous strength, lifting the 300-pound New York Nightmare up for End of Days to win a hard-hitting sprint of a brawl.

The giants met once again in the first round of the NXT Championship No. 1 Contender’s Tournament on Jan. 28, with the result being the same – Dempsey on the wrong end of Corbin’s devastating finisher. While many thought that was the end between the two, Dempsey refused to let that be the final match. Desperate for revenge, Bull interjected himself into The Lone Wolf’s semi-final match against Adrian Neville. Corbin looked impressive against the former NXT Champion, until Dempsey blindsided him and ran him shoulder-first into the steel ring post. The sneak attack gave Neville the opening to hit the Red Arrow and hand Corbin his first loss in NXT, putting a huge grin on Dempsey’s face.

Because of that, NXT General Manager William Regal made the No Disqualification Match between the two rivals. With no rules, there’s no telling what mayhem NXT’s resident titans will unleash when they lock horns. Who will be left standing after this huge brawl? NXT is one my favorite weekly shows on my schedule, I expect Kevin Owens to win in a Match of the Year candidate with Sami Zayn that night. Also for the NXT Women's title, I wouldn't be shocked to see a new champion in Bayley or the Boss Sasha Banks, who last time opened up some eyes to people, that she could be a legit contender or champion for the title.

Not sure about Owens winning, seems like a scenario made for a fuck finish to me. Regardless, the match itself should be the tits, as should the rest of the show.

These two matches are already great on paper, for those who've seen NXT more than me lately any other big matches that could happen for this show?

    Probably Corbin vs Dempsey.

Also, the two finalists in the contendership tournament.

I imagine Lucha Dragons will be in action too.

I already read spoilers for the next couple weeks up to the taping so I have an idea of the final card. I'll just keep it at I'm excited for how this intense Indy rivalry translates to WWE television and I expect Zayn and Owens to be a no contest or a DQ finish. Also interested in the Women's fatal four way since it's something different during a stale point for this division.

I'm leaning towards an Owens win myself what with the title not being on the line.

The #1 contender tournament final is probably going to be the other big match added to the card. I was leaning towards it being Itami/Balor, but if Neville's still working taping you might as well throw him into the finals as well. Balor/Neville? I can't remember how the brackets looked now.

They should just fuck with Corbin/Dempsey and put them in a 5 minute ironman match

I never thought about how the Owens/Zayn match would end. I was just excited about the match itself. It will be interesting to see how that's booked with the number one contender's tournament going on as well.

I see Owens winning and that will be him proving he deserves a title shot and at the next Takeover being put in a triple threat with Sami and the #1 contender.

edit: Neville should get the contenders spot, set up a big triple threat, loose head over to the main roster and allow the feud to keep going.

I would imagine the Lucha Dragons will get a rematch for the NXT Tag Titles on this show also

Now that it is a title match between Zayn & Owens, the match will end with some screwy finish, which will build to the next NXT Special a few months down the road

I like that Becky Lynch following Sasha around entitles her for a title opportunity. "Regal" is stupid for putting her in the damn match, she isn't deserving of shit.

It should just be a three way between Banks, Bailey, and Charlotte.

    wut?

Why does Sasha deserve a shot? she's lost 3 title matches in a row to Charlotte, including the match that came 30 seconds before Regal made the four way. If Becky doesn't deserve it, neither does Sasha

Why does Bailey deserve a shot? She's lost two title matches in a row to Charlotte, lost her last two matches to Becky, hasn't won a match since September 25th and has been on the shelf injured. If Becky doesn't deserve it, neither does Bailey

Becky Lynch on the other hand hasn't lost a match since October 16th, which means she's has the longest undefeated streak at the moment of any diva down there.

The whole set up to the match was stupid because Regal made it because everyone was just attacking each other, but don't let Becky sucking as a character fool you into think she's less entitled to a title shot than Sasha and Bailey, she's not the one losing all the time.

Would have preferred a new Rival logo rather than go over the old one. But hey it's just a logo so not overly fussed.

highly doubt it will be better than Mania, as WWE seems to always find a way to put on a good show one way or another.

regardless, this show will rule. Zayn vs Owens, Number One Contendership Match (I wonder if there will be a loser's bracket match after tonight) and the 4Way Women's match all are reasons to watch. And the possible debut of a certain hacker.
