    MMA Random Discussion Thread

Just a thread to discuss whatever, past events, past fights, upcoming fights, etc.

    --------

Had a few UFC DVD's arrive in the mail today so been watching them. Anderson Silva and Shogun at their peak were so much fun to watch.

Does Uriah Hall have a fight lined up yet?

And watched Rousey vs. Davis about 10 times as well. Just crazy how easily she carves through other fighters and makes them look like they don't belong. I actually felt sorry for Alexis. Fight for years and years, see women make it too the UFC, get signed, win, get a World Title fight and get KO'd in 16 seconds. That's gotta be hard to take in stride.

Uriah is fighting in 2 weeks against Louis something. Some can.

Alexis was devastating... A freak TKO imo.

I see. Thats actually a pretty fun and striker heavy card. Hall, Cerrone on the win streak of his life, Siver v McGreGOAT.

Honestly I would have picked Bendo, and my brains telling me too. But I think Cerrone has too much momentum and has improved as a fighter. He still needs that big scalp, that win over an elite fighter to prove he's top tier though, Bendo could be it. At the same time fighting as often as he is its inevitable he runs into another fighter like Diaz or Pettis who completely stymied him and easily beats Cowboy.

More I think about it though, the more the smart money seems to be on Benson.

I will go for Cerrone. I think he can do it this time. He has to. Bendo needs to lose and go to Welterweight.

If Cerrone wins though he has to skip over Nurmagomedov surely?

If Donald wins I'd definitely give him the shot over Khabib. Khabib has the longer win streak but there isn't many impressive names outside of RDA on that list. A win over Bendo and guys like Alverez, Jury, Miller is more impressive. Not to mention he's a fan favourite due to his style.

The problem is though that Cerrone already got beaten very handily by the Champion already. If he can beat Bendo in impressive fashion though (generally the way he wins anyways) I reckon he should leapfrog my boy Khabib. The names on Cerrone's run have been some murderers and hes got like 5 bonuses in that time hahaha

    Re: MMA Random Discussion Thread

I'll preface all of this by saying Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida are my two all time favourite MMA fighters, and despite the UFC and MMA media in general doing all they can to portray Chris Weidman as confident not arrogant he is cleary pretty arrogant and has the cockiest most arrogant camp in all of MMA. So of course I'd back Machida in this.

But I watched Weidman vs. Machida again today, and its a much different fight than I remember. First round was a whole lot of nothing outside of one Chris flurry. Lots of misses by both guys, more than anything Machida constantly backing up and Chris taking the center of the Octagon while doing nothing cost Lyoto this round. Round 2 up until the nothing takedown that went nowhere was a draw. Neither guy did much, but that one takedown does probably win Chris that round. 3rd round again was pretty uneventful outside of Chris getting a few takedowns that didn't really go anywhere. 4th round was the biggest round of the whole fight easily. Outside of maybe one punch and a split second takedown that Lyoto popped back up from before he even hit the ground Chris literally had nothing for Machida who outstruck him in every way, controlled every bit of the action and where the fight was taking place. The 5th was closer Chris had a decent takedown but again it didn't really go anywhere. Machida outstruck him again, with Weidman landing 4-5 decent shots. Lyoto's last flurry was easily the biggest part of the fight.

I can see how its 48-47 for Chris, he just squeaked by with the first 3 uneventful rounds, but Lyoto won the last 2 rounds in a much bigger way. Pride rules and I'd call it a draw or a win for The Dragon. Even then scoring round 4 the same as round 1 shows where MMA judging is lacking. Half points should be introduced. R1:10-9.5 Chris R2:10-9.5 Chris R3:10-9 Chris R4:10-8.5 Lyoto R5:10-9 Lyoto.

The UFC are of course in Sweden this weekend for a FOX event, the first one to be broadcast in the European market. It was today revealed that this will be followed up with events in Poland, Germany and Scotland. The UFC will head to Krakow, Poland on April 11. Germany’s O2 Arena in Berlin will host the UFC’s next event in Germany and an inaugural event in Scotland at the Hydro Arena in Scotland will be on July 18.

Has anyone seen the first UFC event? I just watched it and the commentary makes me want to shoot myself. Brian Wallace managed to burp mid sentence, announce another announcers name wrong and be incredibly sloppy and clearly unoraganized in like the first minute

Can you blame the commentating though, it was something new and they were very uneducated on what was going with moves and such. UFC: The Beginning was awesome due to the debut of Royce Gracie and Jim Brown on commentary!

Didn't Ken Shamrock find out it was actually real just before he came out?

I wouldn't know that, but I'm pretty sure plenty of the guys were little confused on how the match would go. Ask Teila Tuli, who was KO in like 27 seconds and he's a huge Mountain of a Man.

Yeah Shamrock has said a few times he thought the whole thing was going to be fixed until about 5 minutes before he went out there when it was confirmed or it dawned on him that its legit competition.

    Re: MMA Random Discussion Thread

So funny watching how much the UFC has evolved. I'm on UFC 5 and this guy Keith hackney just got out of the hold by repeatedly punching Joe Son in the balls. Blatantly punching him in the balls, the commentators called it and everything. I also love hearing the after interviews where there like "we've been training for the past THREE weeks for this event"
