Re: FWA Mile High promo discussion thread

    I will.

Humanity - I felt it was a little too short for the match. While length is 1/8th of the grading scale, it still CAN BE a reflection of effort put in and diminishes grades for content, character and character development because we may not see as much in a shorter promo compared to a longer one. That being said, the actual promo was pretty solid. The setting was fairly standard, but you made it work and did well mixing in Humanity's actions within his monologue. You did a good job developing the character as being sickened by the FWA fans and the hardcore, blood-thirsty culture. I thought that was a pretty solid direction to take and the segue to it with the chant about your wife was well done. The ending about the CWA and trying to get FWAers to convert was strange, but interesting at the same time. It was a C-plus/B-minus promo that needed a little more scene setting, maybe a more creative setting, and some literary metaphors. But this also seemed more like a table-setting promo for a new direction, which is interesting.

Humanity, not a bad promo. I also felt like it was short, but i liked the feel of it. I wish your opponents had been touched on more, or that you went into more detail about that fan and/or your wife. The overall point of this, with you becoming anti-hardcore because of something a fan said is an interesting direction for your character, but it is a bit too reminiscent of what Cactus Jack did in ECW after a fan had a 'Cane Dewey' (his son) sign. I was a bit confused about the CWA mentions towards the end, but maybe we'll see more about that in the future. I do think your character has potential, just go a bit more in depth with your setting and specifics of your match. You do have a solid grasp on your character though, and it'll be nice to see your progress and expand on it a bit.

I think I can put this into Perspective, Humanity's purpose is not to win, here in FWA, his purpose is to hurt himself so bad that fans care for once instead of cheer like the idiots they are.

Then you're doing your opponents sort of a disservice in saying that your character doesn't care about winning.

My character's never cared about winning though, even if you've seen his CWA days, you'd understand he's only there to beat the living shit out of anyone standing and he'll enjoy doing it, win, loss, or draw.

But do YOU care about winning? There's a significant difference between your character not caring, and you not caring. Frankly if I know my opponent doesn't care about winning, it takes a lot of the motivation and a lot of the fun out of it for me. That said, I enjoyed your roleplay. I agree that it was short, very short given its a ppv, but I felt the emotion he was feeling. Not much else I can say that hasn't already been said.

If anyone cares to review my first promo, I'll do my best to return the review.

I do indeed actually care about winning, but if it was a smashing match, I say it doesn't matter if I won or not, because the fans won!

    Wrong.

Not every wrestler has to give a shit about winning a match. Different wrestlers have different reasons for what they do. It doesn't do you a disservice, because the handler is still roleplaying, still posting. If your motivation is tied to whether a character is there to win or not, perhaps it is incumbent upon you to change that thought process sooner than later.

If your character isn't good enough to beat a guy who doesn't care, what does that say about YOUR character?

Well, and I mean this with absolutely no disrespect to Grim Reaper, I did beat him so I don't know who that was directed at.

I'm just saying that it's really only going to hurt your grade by not focusing a bit more on who your facing and what's going on around you. That's all I'm saying. And if the response to the critique given by said grader is, my character doesn't care about winning or losing, well then, it's kind of like saying "My character is going to be isolated to himself and not caring a single bit to what's going on around him". Characters have to adapt, and adapt to things that go on around them. There has to be responses to people and events. Imagine seeing a character who didn't give any reactions to any other wrestlers, who when cutting promos never spoke about his opponents....how well do you think that character would be recieved in the WWE?

That right there, was why I felt partially disappointed with some of the promos directly after Vincent was announced as the head of the X Division, cause I was looking forward to seeing how each X Divisioner would give their own personal thoughts and perspectives at having Vincent become the head of the Division. Cause I mean with Garcia, he acknowledged it cause he is looking to destroy the Division so he would naturally comment on Vincent being put into that position, but other then him, only Toner (who delved into Vincent's history), KAIZEN & Thane (given he didn't promo directly after, but then he did though it was partially because he was facing me). I mean, I could understand if some weren't sure who all is in each Division, but still.

    Promo is up.

I'm tried going in a different direction for the character, and I'm not sure if I like it or not but I hope that you all like it.

The longtime face of the WWE is someone who brushes off loses as if they are no big deal, talks about overcoming the odds all the time, and talks about poop and pee. WWE isn't something you should aspire toward, at all.

The grader shouldn't give a shit if the handler says "my character isn't here to win or not." The grader should give a shit about the quality of the piece and judge it against the field. Going off the assumptions of what matters and what doesn't doesn't jive, just like your reduction on isolation. If Humanity is here to beat himself up for some broader message directed at the audience, then the principle you ascribe as mattering really doesn't. He can get his ass run through a meat grinder, and if he beats the field, then guess what? That makes his story mean more, it makes it matter more, and it makes said field have to come to grips with how they, who apparently live and breath and die by wins and losses, have something to fix. Or they just aren't good enough. Either or.

And intention baiting is horseshit. The terms of the game are malleable. You can use them to do whatever anyone wants. You're fighting for imaginary championships on the internet. The goal is word generalship, not who gets the most gold stars for participation.

Re: FWA Mile High promo discussion thread

I think his whole point was to make sure his work was of enough quality to get the win. The character can feel however he wants, but I think the point was to make sure you don't half-ass your work (which i don't think he is, he's building his character and more content will follow) just because winning doesn't matter. Obviously building your character and getting your message comes before winning, but the two usually go hand in hand.

Re: FWA Mile High promo discussion thread

RP is for fun guys, its not about winning but telling the story. Some people get frustrated, some don't. Alt and Gryphon had rough stretches, so have I, some of the best characters in the FWA aren't known for their winning ways but just who they are. Think you have to give it more time for HUMANITY to catch on before it becomes a question of if this character needs a winning streak to help them become more prominent. I know that Jason Gryphon beating Devin Golden helped him alot in confidence and ability to make his character shine through. Just have to wait and see.

by the by, I enjoyed the promo Grim, i'll give more indepth reviews later when my promo's posted.

Re: FWA Mile High promo discussion thread

Humanity: Some nice potential with this character, he speaks in a "dialect" I wouldnt have thought for this character, but I like it and feel as if there is a lot that can be done here.

Randy Ramon: This promo was funny as heck, it dragged on a bit too long. Like after a while I could feel myself just wanting to get to the end but it was nice to see Randy playing off so many people with his rockstar attitude. You really have something here and I think once you find more of a balance with the character's dialogue and the settings/descriptions you'll really be there.

Devin Golden: Short but impactful rp where we learn more about Devin's past and while that dominated the promo you did tie it in fairly well with your opponent Abdullah and I like how you used him as a foil to your more humble beginnings and outlook. Good work

Jay Star: This was rock solid, I am very interested to see how this character progresses as you show you have a clear understanding of the character and his motivations. He is a professional wrestler and I think he might have a bright future here. The text was a little small it felt like, not sure why it made it a tad strainful to read at times but that also might be linked to me being tired right now.

Ghost: Like the building fire within Ghost, the character is evolving nicely. I think that as long as he doesn't get too aggressive you are on the right path to make this a memorable wrestler who could do some great things in a bonafied feud.

Getting too tired for tonight. Will write some more reviews tomorrow, will review for review.
