Fright Fest 6: The Series That Refuses to Die

    *Insert some witty opening here*

*Long build to the obvious announcement that Fright Fest 6 will begin on October 1st goes here*

So for those of you that are new to WC, have the memory of a fly or just generally avoid all of my threads (Which I suppose you wouldn't be reading this one either), Fright Fest is my annual attempt to live up to my original username of "horrorfan_1986" by devoting the entire month of October to reviewing a different horror movie a day. In past years, I've reviewed such old movies as the 1920's Cabinet of Dr. Caligari to most recent movies like 2013's Curse of Chucky. In addition, the reviews have spanned all around the world, with obvious stops in significant countries like Italy and Japan, but also lesser known horror countries such as Uruguay and South Korea. Then there's the days when I'm slacking and need to catch up so I focus a bit on horror TV episodes.

Starting on October 1st (Duh), Fright Fest 6 will kick off. With any hope, I'll survive the month and cap off the review with my Halloween day review, with every day in between devoted to a different movie. At this point, I don't have much of a plan on what to do, so if you have any recommendations or suggestions, I'm all ears. All I know is that I like having a good variety for Fright Fest.

So until October begins, you can keep busy by reading through some of my past Fright Fest reviews below. You can thank the sucky Imageshack for all of the dead image links.

Thanks for that last line buddy, same to you. Looking forward to this as always, there's never a dull moment where Fright Fest is concerned.

How about a critical reassessment of Friday the 13th Part V?

If you are a fan of the found footage genre (or even if you are not to be honest) i strongly recommend the film Evidence (released in 2012).

    Excellent film.

Already reviewed all of the Friday the 13th films:

I'm sooo disappointed that I won't be able to watch Friday the 13th Part 5 again.

Pretty sure that's on Netflix, so that will be nice and easy to do.

I'm planning on doing Ti West's The Sacrament (also on Netflix) but I'd love to hear your thoughts on it as well.

I saw it a few months back when it first popped up online. Another really good film by West. I had some doubt since it was found footage, but they found a way to not make the found footage camera shots feel so...obvious? The sense of dread only increased as the film went on and by the end, it was clearly on the better horrors of the year. Not sure where I'd rank it with West's other main films since I really dug both House of the Devil and The Innkeepers.

West may be the best horror director going today.

But for real, what didn't you like about it? Too slow and not enough payoff?

Re: Fright Fest 6: The Series That Refuses to Die

Looking forward to your reviews, much like every year, Jim. You always bring swell insight as well as generally good selection and a great mix of classics, new stuff, foreign films and occasionally movies with Jack Skellington. Everything you could want in a thread.

For a suggestion, I will put forth Audition because I remember asking you last year and you thought you had already reviewed it but then found you didn't and by that point you already had the rest of the month planned.

How do you feel about West's other movies since The Innkeepers was very much so his usual style.

I had to have given thoughts about the movie somewhere. Really odd that I remember a potential review, but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

I seem to remember discussing the possibility of reviewing the movie for a couple of Fright Fests with you. I'll find time to do it at some point this year.

Based on this recommendation, I'm watching this right now. 20 minutes in, I'm already into the film a lot and I care about the main characters. Especially since the two main girls are really good lookers...

A part of me just wants to say "Yes" since I do dig West's films so much, but if you didn't like the pacing of the Innkeepers, I'd say there isn't much reason to go out of your way and watch The House of the Devil. The Sacrament is a little different from West's usual type of film making though. I'd say either give that film a chance or wait for Fuji to review it to see if it's something you think you'd like. The film was just recently added to Netflix, so it's easy to watch.

Aww man, I was so excited to see a movie about the Dyatlov Pass Incident. I was talking about the incident with a former WC member some years back and it quickly grabbed my interest. When the movie popped up online last year, I was quick to download it. Man...that movie sucked.

I think what annoyed me more than anything else is that they didn't try to do a movie about the actual incident, but rather what happens when you go back there. Gigantic disappointment even when my expectations weren't even high.
